They've successfully lowered expectations into the dirt while retaining a decent playerbase by cutting superfluous content production and instigating a lengthy power grind. Normies get a long campaign with lots of flashy cutscenes and silly gimmicks that tides them over for a couple weeks, while hardcore players get to slave away at existing activities that they know like the back of their hand grinding for power gains and shiny weapons that will get flushed away by the time the next dlc comes out. Theres just enough people to do things like the weekly crucible node, heroic siva strikes, some of the world events like archons forge, etc but many playlists and such are dead. If you play the old strike playlists or a crucible mode that isnt the weekly one youre not gonna find anybody. There are still people that raid as well but you need to use some type of lfg system to get people or the classic way of just messaging randoms. Haven't played prison of elders any to confirm how alive it is so idk about that one.
It also depends on the time and maybe day as well. Sometimes youre not gonna find anyone even in the more alive areas of the game but then other days there will be plenty of people

This is because the writers room has changed over multiple times since the franchise has existed. The people who are writing content and lore for the game now are not the ones who came up with most of this stuff years ago (most of whom have left at one point or another) and are having to incorporate it into the stories they want to tell without fully understanding the original intent behind certain ideas. You can see this in so many areas in the game's lore and overall storytelling direction.

Rhulk. I suppose it helps that there's almost no adds in his own section of the arena. Vow remains one of the best-made raids in the game in general. Nezarec is a bit of a threat, but it's offset by the fact that there is an explicit taunt mechanic you're supposed to use to make him less of a threat.
That's two raid final bosses, though. Strike bosses are supposed to be jobbers, so adding mechanics always has felt like blatant padding, like what happened with Arms Dealer.

Returning player here, stopped playing around Lighfall. I actually enjoy Destiny now as free to play. I enjoy farming the new armor and that I don’t just instantly delete them the moment i saw them. I play a lot of Wuthering Waves and I love farming perfect echoes there, and the new armor reminds me of that with the new stats and set effects. I also enjoy the new gun types and fragments they added since then. I guess they also undid sunsetting? Since i started at very low light level. The game is really fun and it feels good to have loot to chase with tier 5. All i would improve is to put way way more activities to do in the portal both old and new.

That'd be a start, but the bigger problem is that the light level system as a whole is really fucked. The time investment is a literal barrier to entry on higher-difficulty content. It's the same as those LFG meme posts where they make you submit your playtime in D2 and your raid report before you're allowed to join the squad, except that's the ask for all loot. Even the time investment to consistently get T2 loot is higher than your average player is going to reliably do in a decent amount of time, and before that you're grinding for hours (unless you bought the campaign, in which case the grind is more bearable). While you can subsist on T2 loot just fine, T1 drops may as well be insta-glim'd, and the odds of getting the perk roll you want drastically increase on T3.
There's also how it's JUST time investment that matters. I think Yellow Minigamers are a blight upon this game, and I think PvP should be outright ignored for all balancing decisions, but even I think that if you do a 7-Win Flawless card your ass shouldn't be getting T1 drops just because you didn't grind Caldera or Encore for 40 hours. The raid should be STARTING at T2 at worst and you should be getting T3 or T4 for clearing, but instead your first 2-4 runs basically just don't count.

I can only assume the Investment team was either laid off or told to take a dive, because this is some jobber-tier losing out of Bungie right now.

Good question, although I think one of the redacteds is just Lumina or Bad Juju if you add one of those to Exotic Quest. There has been theories with some old gif, leaks and other shit that we basically were supposed to get a different kind of season. I remember there was the "unique load in on Titan" video of somebody logging into a mission we never had prior and assumption was a dungeon in crashed ship. My guess is that basically it was what became proto-Presage and the earlier idea of Ghosts. Gotta remember when Crown of Sorrows was new there was fuck all for lore, it was online-only primer that gave some inkling the Cabal were fucking around searching for something and Gahlran was experiment gone wrong. However you get to Presage and that is basically the missing part of why the Cabal and Scorn were fightin on the Shore and the big reveal that they were used for test subjects at first.

I'm sure there's remnants in trailers and teasers but when the season was still referred to as Penumbra it felt as if we were going to get a little more nod of Darkness action. My guess is they wanted to do Presage sooner than later.

I was a player since day one and I stopped around a month before Curse of Osiris released. then I came back for Forsaken and stopped again 3 weeks into Season of the Splicer. Came back for The Final Shape, and...that is where I finally "broke free" from the game.

It would give us a reason to earn Ascendant Alloys for new guns we just put our gun in the Kepler mattermog machine which upgrades our gun a tier.
Heck they could even have us run Sieve to charge the device with uppie particles or some other stupid requirement but putting your balls into a machine to squeeze them of their juices. Coating your gun in those enhancement energies while Orin guides it into the machines hole would fit the lore too.
Ikora could add an extra splash of light juice she got from the Mars table because she spent so long standing next to it.
She would create a light and dark sandwich together with Orin to blend the paracausal doodad energies which empower your weapon with your upgrade balls.
Rebecca can join in too as she's an expert on the machine and its hole. I think back when I had worse spending habits id spent like 1200 dollars in warframe, 500 in clash of clans, and probably around 200 dollars in 4-5 other mobile games. Right now I would say my total spent in warframe is like 1400-1800 dollars and I probably have 200 dollars spent on silver in destiny 2. The coverage is too low for any real PvE content, and in PvP you're automatically throwing if you use an exotic heavy. The only place it can reasonably shine is Gambit, where you can use it to get a lot of cheeky invader kills on Guardians that aren't paying attention. Even then, there's a billion other exotics you could be running that arrive at the same conclusion.
