I agree with you on that. I watched them whine until the complexity left every job I enjoyed. Now everything's on a 2 minute clock and feels boring as shit. But healer feels even MORE boring as shit than even the dps jobs, because there's just not a lot to really manage.

I think that other guy is right. The one who said encounter design would have to change. But I'd take it a step further and say that for healing to feel good in all content again, they'd have to change the entire game's philosophy toward party synergy. This is something barely anyone wants. I'm not even going to pretend like it's a popular idea. But letting healers manage things like group mana, weakness debuffs, mitigation CDs, party resources (like skill CDs), and so on, would make healing feel way more supportive than it does currently. Paradoxically, despite XIV raiders loving content that punishes them with a reset for 1 person's mistake, they all balk at the idea of their actual performance/rotation ability being affected by a healer in their group. I think a lot of people really just want to be left alone to do their 2m pattern on their memorized script, and that's fine; I just won't heal unless I'm horny or something.

I don't heal because it's the opposite of boring. It's stressful and annoying as fuck. Nobody in this fucking game knows how to play or wants to learn, and their shit playing keeps me anchored on dps checks and even healchecks (nobody fucking mitigates, and they all get hit by EVERYTHING) for so many attempts. This is especially true with /xivg/, where it's like people play poorly on purpose or something. I'm over it. You guys suck. This whole community sucks. I played with good players a few times while their main healers were away, and the difference was like night and day, but even with the good players it was just boring. There's no point where it feels fun for me. I'm either bored out of my mind, or tearing my hair out and wasting time wiping because other people are fucking stupid and get tripped up on a fight mechanic that they've done 50 times that happens in the same order and at the same time in every run.

I picked a DPS last year and I've had so much more fun. The enrage wipes barely happen anymore, and someone's always slapping addle on the boss because it's me, I'm the one slapping addle on the boss. Fuck healing. This community doesn't deserve any healers. They're so shitty at the game, and the role is not even fun. Being a healer main is like volunteering to be the designated driver on every night out for your friends. While everyone else is having fun, you're just tagging along to make sure everyone arrives (in the case of fast queues) and gets through the night safely. Literal parent role. Boring as fuck.

By the time FT meetups were hosted in /xivg/, the content had been out for a little while. Anyone who actually wanted to do that content would have met the barrier to entry head on. But the meetups still couldn't fill and couldn't clear. Why? The simple truth is that most people simply didn't give a shit and/or saw the content as a waste of their time. And can you blame them? The rewards were majority garbage, or the opportunity to acquire and then sell an emote on a flooded marketboard full of bots and undercutters. The raid itself, while quite directable, could be sabotaged by a single man. What do you get when you mix "potentially punishing timewaster" with "unrewarding outcome"? You get nobody giving a shit. It will be the same for the deep dungeon unless they implement rewards people actually want, or make its difficulty give the impression that it isn't going to demand hours of their lives until they achieve total dance-memory perfection.

Mate, don't even get me started. Back in EW, I joined a barbariccia EX learning group with /xivg/, because I loved the fight and thought I wouldn't mind helping people learn it. Jesus christ, man. The progression didn't feel linear at all. We'd bounce around so much. Even when we did finally see enrage, we'd go back in and wipe to the first spread mechanic over and over again because people couldn't remember their fucking clock position. In the end, we only cleared because we got a handful of kind patterns in a row (lots of ins, not a lot of spreads, that sort of thing) so nobody died from forgetting to move to their designated spot and we were able to barely clear. Like, the enrage was basically complete as the final hit went out, that's how close it was. The entire thing took several hours. We had DPS in there doing less damage than the white mage. The tanks wouldn't mitigate shit. And then they started talking about wanting to go again. I just said I'd had enough, and left. That was my entire night, gone. And for what? 1 totem. Because after being dragged to a clear while learning absolutely nothing, they all rolled on everything. Fuck that.

The best thing about this mogtome event, and the thing I'll miss most about it when it's gone, is that I can queue up for my favorite variant dungeon and have it actually pop with people who either haven't done it since it launched and don't remember anything, or with people who are experiencing it for the first time. Either way, it's just refreshing doing these with others again. Doing them solo is so lonely. How do you even get a clear without going through every single permutation of CT possible during prog? There's only like 8 positions to get so you have to get experience with all of them eventually, and the simulation lets you PICK what role you get to target your practice... Or do they just wipe the party until they happen to get an easy role to do in CT and then go on to troll reclear parties? I don't understand how these people exist. Once you get your first clear you should've seen Crystallize Time PLENTY of times but they're acting like noobs on their 2nd day of CT prog

I sometimes play SMN for the aesthetic (I actually really like the eden book that I have on SMN and cannot find a similar one for SCH; if I could, I'd never touch smn), but it's boring as hell. The job doesn't even try to disguise how railroaded it is. BLM kind of feels railroaded too, but SMN is very transparent about it.
In terms of damage, it's obviously worse than BLM by a fair amount to account for its supportive elements (the buffs, the res). I'd post the bars, but I don't have them on hand. In a functioning squad, you'd beat out shitjobs like rdm/brd of course, but you'd probably lose to any melee who knows what he's doing (might beat nin though, outside its burst), and pct/blm would eat your lunch desu
in the grand scheme of things though, the difference is such a fucking nothingburger. like we're getting hung up over single digit % differences. who the fuck cares. also fun fact, synced down, smn is cracked as hell. bahamut is such a powerhouse, especially in the 70s.
