Sonic is an inspiration.

This means that those he inspires are meant to grow and evolve beyond the person they were before, and become greater.

Including, and especially, Tails and Amy.

Forcing someone like Tails or Amy to remain in a state of simply admiring Sonic but never attaining that greatness for themselves is a massive insult to Sonic himself and undermines his status as that aspirational figure they aspire to.

Sonic can not be the ultimate giga-chad if you're trying to make him the ultimate giga-chad by undermining everyone else in the process.

Tails writing reminds me of something. There is this character in Dragon Ball Super, Cabba, who is "Vegeta's apprentice". Its on the grounds of Vegeta helped the kid and that's it, but he was flanderized a bit in videogames and the TOP in being the kind of character who constantly talks about Vegeta. "Vegeta, I did it!" "Master, I did it!" and so fort.

I think Tails was kinda like that in Adventure 1 and some games, but idealistically he should be on equal grounds with Sonic. Even Pontac in Lost World did like that, but it was awkward because Tails was very sarcastic and demeaning, and Sonic was very open about how much he is worried and sad about Tails, which is the same shit Sonic Prime got flack for.

Conclusion, Tails is written sometimes as a fanboy when he should hold the confidence to speak from his own perspective. This was the same problem people had with Amy.

Deltarune's narrative centers around a theme of "your choices don't matter, there is only one ending, the prophecy is absolute". So, Freedom is a counter-theme to that, through defying fate, breaking the narrative, realizing that there's something more important than simply reaching the end.

Sonic, on the other hand, exists in a world of freedom. Sonic's freedom is not inherently challenged by anything. Eggman is the outsider, in this equation, fighting against Sonic's world of freedom. But this can admittedly undermine that theme, because we don't get to truly see Sonic rebel against anything in a legitimate way outside of very specific circumstances.

guess we'll need to wait and see but so far Freedom route seems like the Genocide Route. It's an option if you desire it but it's the evil option.

Overall Weird Route is about choosing Freedom over the main story. So far Weird Route seems clearly the evil choice

But I'm not sure, because as far as I can tell it doesn't really make sense and it's just forced into the story just to give Tails an extra stage. The way I understand it is Tails is trying to reach the Egg Carrier alone to rescue Elise, and Sonic isn't around for some reason. Then there's a cutscene with Eggman and Elise, and Tails is nowhere to be seen. Then suddenly Tails is back in town with Sonic. There's a difference between the secret bosses/shadow crystals and the actual "Weird Route".

The weird route is specifically the stuff you do with Noelle to ice all the Cyber World people and put Berdly in a snowgrave, and the aftermath of that with continuing to force your will onto Noelle.

Fighting the secret bosses in general is its own thing. You don't need to do the weird route to get the shadow crystals.

I S ranked Sonic's Kingdom Valley a few times and collected some of the medals. I also feel like it was unnecessary to add evil aliens to an already complex story about an amnesiatic artificial science experiment. A couple of the Doom powers are cool, but that's it. It just doesn't do much good for Shadow's story. It sticks out like a sore thumb in Shadow's 2001 - 2006 arc.
