Also Answer took a legitimately long time for people to figure out all his shit, he's pretty strong but releasing so late in the game's life meant the top players weren't going to switch because it takes a shitload of time to get a new character up to the top level, and it was only legitimately years later that people started actually playing him even close to optimally, which just isn't something that can really happen in Strive.

I think the Rankin-Bass holiday film music would have been great stage themes in a fighter like Strive. Some could be done mostly 1:1 but I do think others would need a modern or more "Daisuke" update.

Answer used to be one of the "Maybe bottom tier maybe fine" characters like Kum or Jack-O, I don't think anyone thinks he's top 5, but lately has been more of the same group as like Sol or May where some people think they're just outside the top and some people think they're just outside the bottom, opinions have definitely come way up on average, but there's a lot of variance.

This more or less confirms what I was speculating yesterday. They didn't have the resources ready to invest in the game because they didn't expect it to be this big or stay relevant this long; those resources went to work on other games (mostly Tokon) after the initial launch window / S1 per their normal development cadence. This isn't an excuse, just an explanation; they should have been able to recognize success and been willing to chase it. Now we're at point in development with Tokon and Strive where they have to make resource commitment decisions again, and it sounds like they're going to pour some actual effort into Strive. Based on Miyauchi's comments it sounds like it will be some technical upgrades (possibly engine / network systems / dev pipeline that they would have iterated on for Tokon), and likely some system / game tooling improvements for players like replay takeover etc etc. With a fresh resource commitment and an eye to their contemporaries we could even see balance patch cadence commitments so things like this dogshit season balance don't last nearly as long.

This is something I notice a lot with Strivers, they are unable to imagine that more than one thing can be changed at a time. They think the game would be literally the exact same except now with gatlings, which would be horrible, rather than understanding that more would have to be changed alongside the gatlings change.

Letting people get a little more reward off starters like 2P and 2K, even if it's just gatlings into 2D for 10% and go again, promotes using them as starters so more combos will be low damage, safe knockdowns instead of massive damage meter dump into wallbreak because nothing else is worth doing.

Being 100% real here, that would never work in a world with wallbreaks. I think it could be made to work pretty easily. It would be different, yeah, but people suggesting changes generally want it to be different.
The point here is that it wouldn't necessarily increase the damage. You point out yourself that wallbreaking for low damage without the HKD usually isn't worth it, but that's kinda the point, it makes safe low reward hits that aren't just damage into wallbreak more worthwhile. If you get a low damage starter you just gatling into 2D and take your oki, hoping for a higher damage wallbreak on the next hit but giving your opponent a chance to get out, or you take your wallbreak and reset to neutral if you've already opened them up a couple times in a row because the game forces you to, that's the whole point of the wall breaking, as opposed to now where you generally avoid low damage starters because they either don't convert into anything reliably or you have to route into max damage wallbreak anyway.

As the first 2nd generation Arcsys employee, I can confirm that more gatlings will ruin the game. Your game WILL explode if Sol could 2k > 2s

I just don't see how gatlings would improve the game in any way.
They would increase damage because of better combos and conversions when damage is already high, so you would have to completely rework damage and they have an extremely poor track record with that.
They would increase pressure when all the good characters already have insane pressure, so you would have to rework half the cast to avoid the game becoming even more one-sided solitaire.
They would increase conversions which would lead to wallbreaks being even more common, so you would have to rework wallbreaks as well.
All this, to achieve what exactly? Which of these goals can't be achieved by some other means that doesn't require you to completely rework the entire game? If the desire is simply make Strive like older GGs, why not start with something that is much easier to implement and doesn't break the entire game? You could for example bring back dash braking. Personally I found it obnoxious and completely retarded and would never want it back, but at least putting in dash braking wouldn't completely break the game, if anything it would very slightly tone down offense, especially at lower levels.

Getting your opponent to the corner is supposed to be a great advantage. If all you get our of it is a small amount of damage (not including opponent resources) before resetting to neutral then that breaks from fundamental fighting game design philosophy beyond just this game. It also took effort on your part to hit them multiple times or otherwise "win" the neutral game. The equivalent of this right now is some dash up 2K > 2D action and a throw + sprint body push mixed in. The result is low damage and your opponent near the corner; I don't see how getting the same result with that looking more like 2P > 5K > some slash buttons or small jump cancelled air combo achieves much.
