ok so you build water buildings in the sea and land buildings inland and then you just have the tide area that you cover in whatever amphibious belts the mod gives you
end result: the tides make you use more belts, rather than being able to place land and water buildings close to each other in a lake

The one that some anon was playing with a few months ago. Realistic Reactors I think? Reactor efficiency is based on temperature, but at 1000*C they automatically meltdown, so you have to control it to try to make it as efficient as possible while still being safe.
Afaik it doesn't add extra fuels so you can add your favourite breeding/plutonium/etc. mod.

Definitely not Satisfactory, with its open reactor core design that allows you to literally see the fuel rods being slotted and expended in a fashion that can only be described as a revolver six-shooter, all viewable freely from behind the safe comfort of a zero inch thick wall of Ficsit-patented nothing-but-air.
Ficsit - because you're an expendable asset.
I think it would be interesting if there was a mod that added radiation as a second pollution source which required you to build shielding. Aside from just βhp go downβ it could cause other problems like rapidly mutating nearby aliens or making machines/combinators malfunction, you could imagine the catastrophic consequences of a meltdown. No idea what factorioβs mod support is capable of though, havenβt touched it.

Chapter 1 is pretty easy. Just don't go too fast at the start so that when steam first starts generating it doesn't run away. After that it basically runs itself.

nuclear fear mongering was pushed mainly by soviet backed 'peace activists' during the cold war
the environmental angle was always a sham, the goal was to protect soviet energy exports to western europe (the ussr was extremely dependent on this revenue stream because it was their main source of foreign currency)
oil was never in direct competition with nuclear. the big petroleum product consumers are motor vehicles, airplanes, and the chemical industry. none of those applications were ever under threat by nuclear.

I've never managed to do it, but you just have to keep the power super low and slowly burn off all the xenon. You have to go super slow because less xenon means more power so it can easily run away. Actually doing this would probably take at least a couple of hours of careful watching and constant adjusting.
And you're not actually meant to do it; the stated goal in part 2 is to just copy what the chernobyl boys did and watch it melt down.
If you want to shoot for high stable power, you should just start on part 1.

Lower the pressure of the reactor by leaving eccs on and disabling the extra pump. Keep the coolant pump at like 0.05 while starting up, then increase it steadily as the xenon is burned off.
Lower pressure seems easier to control, so just let it hover between 100-200 power until it can go full tilt again.

t. put my Py run on hold as I was starting to get a distributed train base up, and had Arqads breeding

I'd already played a fair bit of Nullius in 1.1 so I know that overhauls increase complexity in different ways than the main game (and I really liked Nullius, even though I was going through it glacially slow) and Py just seems to be that but more so.
Honestly the 20x run has been disappointingly close to vanilla so far. It meant I was keeping up closer to research in the early game, and that I had to tap an extra resource patch earlier, but now in the mid-game (I've just finished my purple science build in Vulcanus) it feels basically the same as a regular playthrough. I kinda wish I'd started on a higher multiplier but on the other hand the early game was a bit sloggy when researching the big ticket Space-related techs while I didn't really have that much else to do.

I'm doing a 100x run (swear I'll get back to my Py run eventually), and can confirm that it is a bit of a slog. It has also made research order very important. I beelined for flame turrets and got them around the time I started getting big biters. And designing a setup to make 2.5k automation science using nothing but burner mining drills so I could research electric drills was an interesting challenge, that I otherwise would never have experienced (not counting similar kinds of things in Py, where you will be using burner drills for the first couple dozen hours).

It probably takes like an hour for a radar to scan through it's whole area so if you want them to detect new nests quickly you want to put down multiple radars in the same area
It's best to just set up walls of turrets in choke points and completely block any expansions close to your factory

You're not supposed to baby sit turrets by the point you have purple science. This is an AUTOMATION game, anon. If you find yourself constantly having to manually fix/top-up/babysit something, you should probably automate it rather than just continuing to spend time on doing it manually.
>radars
Their one fucking job is to let you zoom in on map view from far away.
They also have a second job which is to slowly explore the map in a limited range, mostly to discover ore patches. They'll also discover new nests, but again, slowly.
They only hog the shit out of electricity if you put down like 50 radars or something, don't do that. Otherwise their consumption should be absolutely dwarfed by everything else in your factory, like assemblers, mines, roboports(!), and even inserters.

If you're having power problems with radars then lasers are going to rape you to death and then when you blackout your entire base will be consumed since your lasers are down. Just set up flamers and throw a couple barrels of crude on your supply train. Also just go throw radars everywhere with a couple solar panels + batteries so you can see everything everywhere, biters don't attack them (very often)

How many radars did you spam? If your base is so tiny that putting down belts to the turrets is too much and you're dying to biters, you should only have, like, half a dozen at most.
And like I said their primary purpose is to let you zoom in on areas through map view from arbitrarily far away. It's incredibly useful and radars are the only thing that do it. The beyond-visual-range scanning is just a bonus, and mainly useful in the early game as some free scouting of the nearby terrain.

You shouldn't be sleeping on nuclear. You have the tools you need to make power a non-factor on nauvis. You don't even need kovarex processing to run it. The adjacency bonus for reactors is absurdly powerful.
If you're worried about eating all your fuel, you can easily program a circuit to only use fuel when your reactor would drop below 500 C, or even to only add fuel when steam levels reach a particular level.

The reactors have to be touching completely, all 3 heat output points on one reactor lined up with 3 heat output points on another reactor, in a square grid. When that happens, and both reactors are running at the same time, they generate 100% extra heat with no increase in fuel cell consumption. Reactors generate an extra 100% heat for *each* neighbor that meets those conditions. A 2x2 square of reactors will make 480MW of heat energy, compared to 160MW if none of them were adjacent.
You still have to consume the heat in heat exchangers, and the steam from those in turbines, so the adjacency bonus just means you can support more heat exchangers and more turbines per reactor.

It actually would be.
It would require breaking changes to the way the engine works, which is why the devs made the limitation to a single pollution type per surface in the first place. Also - now that there are modding hooks in place, it would also mean a breaking change to the modding API; which theoretically breaks any mod touching pollution in any way. Which even includes something as trivial as: which type of pollution should a machine produce?

If you check the mod page (and the submods) for screenshots - basically there are a few things that actually look decently sharper, and honestly I wouldn't mind AI upscales on a few sprites. But a huge amount of it is basically visually identical and provides zero benefits from upscaling.
For the sprites that do look better, the benefit is from being able to zoom in really far. Even with the new "HD" sprites, if you zoom in enough they look pixelated. Yes, it's purely a vanity effect for very rare cases.

Thoughts on recycling scrap on-patch?
Ideally I'd mine directly onto recyclers which output directly onto wagons, but the ratios are all whack for this to work and it takes ages to load a wagon. Having a recycler stack on-island that then outputs into buffer chests and then wagon seems like it takes too much space.

It would reduce the train throughput needed by a lot, since scrap recycles down to 60% of its input, and the products also stack much more. I think if you use good quality accumulators you can fit them in too.

You donβt even need combinators for this. Wire your cracking plants directly to the tanks.
If heavy oil > light oil, enable heavy to light cracking plants.
If light oil > petroleum, enable light oil to petroleum cracking plants.
Products are now balanced and should deplete at the same time. If you run out of petroleum, add more cracking plants. Only problem is lube but you need so little of it compared to petroleum it shouldnβt be a problem

Build the new thing before tearing down the old one, always. I don't understand why people tear old bases down anyway, by the time you need to consider doing that the materials cost for the base is already basically insignificant. You can salvage quality buildings by replacing with common ones I guess.
>>534076446
The true final redpill of factorio is that the only efficiency that matters is efficiency in player time
Resources are functionally infinite, buildings are free unless you're gigabasing to the point of tanking your UPS, and ratios are a spook except insofar as it lets you spend less time fixing bottlenecks.
But for that matter bottlenecks only matter if it's the easiest way to improve your throughput, if it's easier to double an inefficient build than to fix a 10% bottleneck issue then doing the latter is only worthwhile for its own sake

Is it common to just use a planet for resources in DSP? I got to my second one and found out it has no oil or water so I researched interstellar by dragging an inventory full of titanium back to my first planet. Now I'm just shipping titanium and silicon from the second planet.
It's frozen so I can build anywhere and I probably shouldn't ignore all that space. But it doesn't feel like a good idea to ship resources to every planet that doesn't have them.

Thinking I should just roll the factory and the egg into one and make a second combat ship, perhaps a tanky one that uses a couple more of those cannons.
Having a big armor brick with big guns buried in its folds might be fun. The egg could instead be equipped with factories for expensive items made from rare materials.

Fish turbines are an absolute fucking meme.
They cost too much by the time you have too little and to get that investment gives you a pitiful amount of unreliable energy back. On top of that, you're already smelting everything in the most inefficient way possible. You're better off speeding through until py1. If you use fish turbines in a regular py run instead of burning a yellow belt of coal, you're actively gimping yourself.
how fucked I am?

There's a mod for it which just makes them not spawn at all. And that's basically the only way to deal with them and solve the issue of them getting stuck on/in your factories.
(Another prime example of Coffee Stain not thinking their shit through.)
I still don't get where the energy from the big bang came from
And extending this further, surely entropy isn't actually real because this universe will burn out but another big bang will happen, like what happened to us right?

It doesn't have to come from anywhere.
The universe is a black box.
Inside that black box you have areas with positive energy and areas with negative energy.
The total amount of energy inside that black box cancels out to zero.
So while things inside the universe can happen due to the energy gradient between positive and negative, from an out-universe perspective that thing is dead and unusable.
Think of it like the equation (x-y) where x=y. You can simulate the entire universe with x and then subtract the result of x with y.
But if you solve the brackets you are left with nothing.

If you need an interrupt, yeah, I think you would need to link the signal from the flamethrower outpost to one of the stations your train will be in, have the train read the signals from the station ("send signals to train" in the station settings I think) and you can have the interrupt be based on the circuit condition
Like the other anon said it's probably easier to use the condition to enable/disable the local station at the flamethrower outpost, and just have it in your schedule, so the train only goes there when the fuel is low but you don't have to move signals across your entire base
Personally I tend to use a dedicated outpost supply train, that way my factory can continue getting supplied while my outposts get supplied in parallel, and you can also have multiple flamethrower supply stations across different points of your perimeter and if you only enable them as necessary then a single supply train can go and fuel any that need it immediately and spend the rest of its time waiting idle

If he puts the outpost in the schedule and then sets train limit to 0, the train wonβt skip it, it will just go to sleep and wait forever for the station to become available. That will break his oil loop. I bet he doesnβt have signaled lines set up so he can only have one train.
>>534137714
Itβs not that complicated. You will have to use a circuit. Pass the βneed oilβ signal into a radar, you can now access the signal from any other radar on the same surface, so put another radar at one of the oil stops. Make an interrupt that checks for the oil signal.

Fair point but just having it use the same name as the normal base station and having a higher priority would solve this

Once the Universal Consciousness, or Creation, reaches the stage of Ur-Universe, respectively Ur-Creation, this Ur-Universal-Consciousness self-generates an idea for a new, simple Creation, the type of material universe with which we are familiar. This "idea" or "concept" consists of the purest spirit energy and contains everything It needs to become self-creating for Itself from within Itself. From a tiny energy ball the mere size of a flea, It creates within Itself new, immense energies which become highly compressed until this process culminates in a monumental explosion - the Big Bang. The energies from this explosion initially shoot outward and then expanded for fractions of a second at 107000 times the speed of light, as they displace other universes in an effort to create Its own space among the uncounted other universes, or Creations, already in existence. The seven Creational belts, or Universe belts, form simultaneously, of which one is the coarse-matter belt, the visible-matter-universe. In this belt originate coarse matters and gases and dust particles from which derive meteors, suns, comets, planets, nebulae, galaxies and other things when coarse matter gathers and condenses. In this way our Earth was born. This means our universe's birth and that of our Earth, along with foreign worlds, stars and galaxies and so forth, is a Creational-physical energy process and has nothing to do with a Creator God. These happenings are the result of purely spiritual-physical and material-physical laws and processes based upon physics and chemistry in every way and are, indeed, explainable through them.

You generally need to mine lot more planets than you need space to build facilities to process things in so it's like factorio in that you will want few processing planets and then several mining planets. You can of course choose how far you refine things on the planet you mine at. Personally I like to turn things into plates at the source and then ship things from plates up, but you could just as well ship raw ores instead.
I usually get to warpers or white science on the starting planet with the others having just few smelters, bit of power and towers to ship the stuff back at the home plant. Then I relocate to my final destination near where I plan to build my real sphere (though didn't do that in the first game, just build it where I started)

I actually hate vegans because at least half of them have psychological problems, and perhaps even mental illnesses, that cause them to justify their lifestyles by forcing said lifestyle on everything else (including obligate carnivores) regardless of how detrimental the consequences are.
I actually hate PETA because its filled with mentally ill lesbians who hypocritically do not care about the animals they proport to fight for. Even the president of PETA couldn't give two shits about and animal suffering, will abduct pets, and will even kill uncooperative animals they "rescue".
But most of all, I hate marxists because a lot of them are part of the two demographics above, as well as other incredibly malevolent groups that have collectively spent the last half a century ruining society around the world. I honestly wish they'd be holocausted but laws prevent that from happening.
What I absolutely don't hate are splitters.

I hate PETA because I've seen news of them picking up non-stray pets from the street and sending them to kill shelters, and even if it happened once or was a mistake it's absolutely and totally unacceptable for an animal charity and dissolving them would be justified. There are dozens of large-scale national animal protection/rescue organisations around the world and this kind of stuff simply does not and should not happen, it's unheard of.

you do not play for 60 anything spm in py unless you're already so deep into the next couple sciences it actively becomes only a a third of your actual spm by virtue of it being consumed twice or thirce as fast.
New players always get this wrong. They play py like vanilla factorio, build too big and burn out.

most of the steps for that 1/s is like 2 to 5 machines, that's not that much more than the bare minimum of 1 I would have to place anyway, the difficulty is in the amount of steps not how large each of them is
the big steps are mostly growing shit which is logistically pretty straightforward and I can always build it 10% to have the "step" done and return to finish the remaining 90% later
wondering on this, what's a vanilla factorio spm rate look like? I am aiming for 30spm on the science packs. working on blue packs now which looks like 12 assemblers to feed. why 30 idk seems to research stuff fast enough while not eating all my plates that feed my mall at this point. I've got 10 labs in 5x2 configuration feeding to each other.

I agree /egg/ games shouldn't have singular solutions because they're typically sandboxes. But it's ok for actual puzzle games, those are basically a list of riddles to solve. See first person puzzlers like portal or talos.
I don't need the riddle of the wolf/goat/cabbage to have an alternate solution where the farmer can mine 50 wood to make a bigger boat.

Ignorance is not, in fact, a virtue
I have a decent enough gleba build in the lab, it will be ~1500 spm (once I get the t3 modules, but that will take a while). Bots are boring, but gleba makes them too rewarding.
I'll need to graft something on to make carbon fiber as well, but this is easy enough. The rocket fuel is already pretty overbuilt too.

Just redo the whole section. Fucking level it and build again. Fiddling with routing, moving things off to the side, all that drains you.
Rebuilding, while also taxing, excites and engages you, as you have no recourse but to build the section you need if you want to produce some item.
Demolishing and rebuilding is a net-positive, or at least net-neutral, whereas retrofitting is a net-negative in terms of mental resources, focus, willpower, and so on.
If you have ADHD, or you're a depressed wreck, or you're otherwise stressed, you won't have that much mental resources to begin with, so doing bold stuff like that can help you overcome that hurdle.

Running that much belt is just a pain in the ass, even with bots, not to mention it cost a decent amount more resources.
The only reason I can think to not run trains in situations like this is you're too lazy to do the initial setup of designing and building stations, which is kind of understandable, but at the same time it's not THAT hard.

I think a lot of stream watchers treat it as a place to hangout. I've seen streamers talking about their "chat" as an entity, basically like a chatroom that happens to run next to some live gameplay. There's regulars and all that. Twitch chat is based on IRC anyway (or at least used to be) so it's like an IRC chatroom but with gameplay on the side too. So I'm guessing people just go there to chill when they've got nothing to do, either as NEETs or after work. Not much different to people who watch youtube shorts for 4 hours a day, except it's watching one guy play a game and sitting in a chatroom with a bunch of other regulars you know for 4 hours a day.
What I really don't understand is giant streamer channels. Anything you write in chat will disappear in 0.5 seconds, nobody will ever read it, the chatroom is literally useless so it has to be carried entirely by the gameplay, and there's almost no game where 100% uncut gameplay is reliably fun to watch for hours on end, so I cannot comprehend why anyone would look at some fortnite or csgo streamer with 100k watchers playing the same fortnite or csgo matches they've been playing for 5 hours a day every day for years. And of course paradoxically, the streams with the highest viewer counts are the ones that most people watch for some fucking unfathomable reason.

Yeah you're running unusually long belts
Which is fine, there's really no reason not to long arbitrarily long belts. Your red circle is also quite arbitrary. Trains are fun, but if you want to avoid them it's not a huge deal, you may need to spend more iron to build all the belts and when you connect a new mine it'll take like 5 minutes for the items to finally reach your base, but those aren't major. It's also sometimes annoying to lay down all the belts, but that's easy to mitigate with bots, and by the endgame spidertrons make it very easy to lay down extremely long belts if you feel like it.
Throughput also becomes annoying once you scale up your base big enough - you start needing really, really wide belt lines. I think that's the real point where it starts becoming really impractical - if you need to lay down a 32-wide stretch of express or turbo belts for 20,000 tiles, the cost in iron and tungsten just gets ridiculous, and even spidertrons with lots of bots will take a while to lay it down. But you really need to build absolutely massive to get to that point.
The thing about trains is that they're just fun, and the fact that they scale really well also tickles a lot of people's autism.

I know that feeling, it's usually not a skill issue, but rather a mental block that you need to get over.
The benchmarks to make sure you aren't actually dogshit are: that you aren't treating it like an idle game or manually feeding your factory, and that you're able to either finish it or progress towards finishing it within a few dozen hours or so (even if you haven't spent the time getting all the way yet). If you can do those two things, then you're doing fine.
The first factory is always a mess, the second factory is usually better, and the only way to come up with perfect designs to play for a while. Or to watch a guide or copy someone else's blueprints, don't do those.
Otherwise, remember - the only "wrong" ways to play factorio are to treat it like an idle game or to hand-feed everything. If you're actually automating your shit, you're fine, just keep going.

There's some fun to be had as a viewer watching blind playthroughs unfold in real time, and seeing someone voice their thoughts and opinions on the game as they play. Re-live that first time player through them.
Everything after that is mostly inertia: having some guy as background noise becomes comfortable routine, and like
>>534345717 said the chat becomes a cozy hangout, even if nothing much is being said by viewers 80% of the time.
I do wonder what these small time streamers get out of it. they have to train themselves to be so, vocal about everything they might think about the game rather than just silently roll with it (which is harder than it sounds) all so 2-8 people have something to watch and maybe comment on once every half hour.
But I really wouldn't have it any other way, big streams are such an absolute adhd clusterfuck of attention-grabbing bells and jingles and stupid buttons to mess with the streamer to help maintain the illusion your interactions with the stream matter some

They've been going downhill pretty much since the first game. In that the MC was a mandatory party member with no skills and a weak basic attack, so every turn you didn't use a consumable or a bomb was essentially wasted. You had to craft all of them yourself and no two would end up exactly the same.

it worked REALLY well for them right up until fluids, where they dropped the series.
i unironically use some of their abominations as bootstrap factories out in the wild when i just need to get a few miners or whatever built.

>Dad decide to randomly come into my apartment uninvited to see if he didn't store some random shit in MY apartment (he didn't)
>Climb without my permission on my bed with his shit covered boots to see the upper shelves where I store my hard drives and usb flash drives
>Pick one up while saying "It's covered in dust, I bet you didn't even know you had all of this stuff!"
>Drop and break my 10tb hard drive "Oops eheheheh"
>Sweep the entire shelve to see what's behind, breaking almost everything in the process
>At this point I am very upset, I tell him to get down and stop searching/breaking stuff "Hey! Why do you worry more about your tech than your dad's broken back (his spine is half broken)!?"
>He gets down, and go to the toilet without saying anything
>I tell him to leave when he comes out of the bathroom
>He start screaming threats and crying that I don't love him, he slaps a glass that was on my kitchen counter directly into a wall (missing me by less than a meter)
>He bursts out of my apartment while punching everything in his way
>I go to check if he broke anything in the bathroom, my toothpaste is missing
I feel like I'm going insane. I was planning to play factorio the entire week end but now I need to clean this mess. Sorry. I needed to get this out of my system.
Were your parents like that too when you left their house?

Make the cunt pay for every single thing he broke, and I mean every single thing.
That 10tb drive? He's paying for a new one, and no, he can't buy or bring a replacement one. He's paying, you're buying.
Tell him that he can go choke on a paki cock until he pays off his debt to the last penny.
And if he barges in like that again, you're calling the cops on him.
He can do the whole "poor old me" song and dance for them, I'm sure they'd be thrilled by the performance.
Fuck that guy, he sounds like a manipulative cunt that guilt-trips people when they don't fold to his every demand.
You'll lose nothing from cutting him off from your life if he refuses to pay, which I'm sure he will.

In czech, slovakia is slovensko and slovenia is slovinsko.
Of course it's actually english that's wrong but that's besides the point.
PS I wish anglos never started calling servia serbia and rumania romania. The latter is more accurate to the actual endonym, the former is not but it sounds like serf which is fitting.

Great, he doesn't want to so he won't do it. Even if I convinced him to do it, he would literally go dumpster diving to find a new one and say it's good as new.
>Tell him that he can go choke on a paki cock until he pays off his debt to the last penny.
He would unironically kill me on the spot.
>And if he barges in like that again, you're calling the cops on him.
I actually did, more than once. I got laughed at (twice), got told that he is my father and I should respect him because it's my legal and moral duty, got told that they don't deal with domestic issues (???) and got told to convince him to see a doctor instead. French police is worse than useless. No cut or bruises means no crime for them.
>Fuck that guy, he sounds like a manipulative cunt that guilt-trips people when they don't fold to his every demand.
He's an emotionally unstable man that threatens people when they don't comply. He has no empathy for other people and is completely unable to understand how others feel.
>You'll lose nothing from cutting him off from your life if he refuses to pay, which I'm sure he will.
That was the plan. I'm Franco-Belgian. I left Belgium to study in France and he followed me. So right now my new plan is to finish my studies and to get the fuck out of Europe entirely. He's a monolingual baboon.

Solid fuel in scrap didn't make sense to me either, given the literal ocean of oil. Same goes for ice.
Hell, any platform that can make it to Fulgora should be able to supply the base with ice.
What it needs is a change to "loot tables", the mechanic itself is actually cool.
The top-down "reverse production" chain is very refreshing, albeit frustrating at times.

I do not understand it either. I think it's just a matter of simplifying the scrap recovering mechanic as much as you can so that there's no true way to softlock yourself.
There's several fulgora overhauls at the moment that change that around but they're all lackluster in some way.
