There is no grand master stroke for 0.3. The update will be the same size as 0.2, if GGG had something up
their sleeves, they would have played it then. You'll get at most on reworked hackjob of a poe1 league
mechanic, a few new ascendancies, and a bunch of retarded conditional support gems no one wants to use.
ONE new skill will be the meta skill and it will be lightning or projectile based. They will push FOMO and MTX
for it and you will pay for it. The rest of the patch notes will be a bunch of nothingburger qol updates. Major
system reworks and community requests like in-game trade integration, hotswapping controller/kb, gem links
tied to the character and not the gem, etc will go unanswered and swept under the rug. There will be no grand
innovations and you will be strung along like this until 1.0. Enjoy paypigging during the preleague hype cycle
based on 10 second trailers and bullshots only to be abandoned 2 weeks in when the dev team shifts back to 1.

What's happening is that bladefall of trarthus has a constant cost of 5% mana per second. I wasn't sure if I had a problem playing HC or not, so you know what I did? I did the HC achievement in PoE the last few days just to get a feel for it and see if it was more enjoyable. The result? It wasn't any more difficult. If anything it was less difficult because I was forced to play differently. Avoiding anything fun and making safe plays constantly. Oh, and I never used the logout thing that faggots do, because at that point you might as well just play SC.

If the Gauntlet was simply challenging SSF content, I think it would be much more approachable for people who aren't Ben_.

Again - I don't mind the difficulty, but I do mind wasting my time on something that is not fun.

You do the exact same thing in hardcore, except that it takes more time if you mess up. A forced logout should result in immediate character death. Otherwise you're essentially just playing softcore with extra steps.

Oh, by the way - I take it you're familiar with souls-games? Dark Souls, Sekiro, Elden Ring etc? Those are softcore in the sense you described. The challenge comes from learning how to kill the bosses, regardless of difficulty. Maybe another design philosophy, but I see similarities.

You know what's weird about the hcssf gauntlet? I actually prefer the feeling of tension it gives. I'm actually enjoying going through acts a little bit slower and trying to grind out better gear and capping res early by gambling etc. Except GGG would never balance the game like this. The HCSSF gauntlet plays a lot like D2 in that you are checking vendors more often, worrying about capping res, and worrying about the mobs that are off screen. Not even Poe2 has this. The gauntlet is extra retarded. The lack in speed is only with builds that are not strong. I have the comparison of one build being completely ass and slow as hell, versus my new build blitzing through the campaign with little that stops me. The one thing that is stopping me is gearing up here and there.
In total, the gauntlet or hardcore in general favours people playing builds that are safe, and let little room for experiments, if you want to get far.

I agree, the main unfun thing about the POE1 campaign isn't the length or the quality of encounters, it's the fact that it's too easy so you barely engage with the game's systems, and your engagement is usually limited only to the most boring, tedious part (sockets and coloring and pretty much nothing else).
That said I don't think they struck a good balance in the gauntlet. 99% of the campaign is still brainlessly easy, and the remaining 1 percent is a mix of somewhat difficult boss encounters that buildcheck and skillcheck you, and shit that isn't really difficult but can just surprise you (le anchor lolololol). It ends up being more engaging than a normal campaign run but only just, and only for like 1 playthrough.
I'm a little mad at myself that I bullied myself into bothering with finishing it, I really don't like Phrecia ascendancies, and I don't like overfarming being the most obvious solution to 90% of encounters.
I hope they do a gauntlet where mobs don't respawn. That would be a challenge.

So much of the complaints about game speed hinge on the fact that low skill players try to imitate the gameplay of speed runners, instead of taking their time. Playing campaign with just frostblink and quicksilver feels infinitely better and more enjoyable than ramming shield charge when you have low attack speed and your connection is shit. I think people have just gaslit themselves into playing in the most enjoyable ways based off of twitch watching, and can't get it out of their heads that they have to look like them.

I also think game speed and play is infinitely more fun if you just had quicksilver up 100% of the time they just removed the flask. Poe1 has a lot of incredible gameplay moments that poe2 just didn't capture. The audio score is top notch when there's actually a sense of danger that most people completely ignore now because they faceroll everything with netdecking. I'd say maybe they'll capture this feel someday in poe2 but i won't hold my breath. Game is too slow, and they are still weighed down by this obsession with never giving the player good drops.

You say this, but a lot of people just won't get anything out of taking their time with the campaign. You have to be a specific type of person to be able to extract fun out of the POE1 campaign past your first playthrough.
Having to play transitory skills is just boring to a lot of people, and like I said, the campaign is too easy to require you to interact with POE's many systems too much, you just slap on some obvious choices for offense and defense and trivialize most of it with no brainwork.

It's boring and slow. You basically can't have fun in the game mode. What I did was try to remind myself to take my time and to only kill 1-2 packs at once. Also I would leave maps that had weird packs of mobs, like those Bassilisk assholes with multi proj and haste. Aside from that it just takes time.

I did my run on a Chieftain to cap resistances easier. Crafted my rings on Amethyst base and got chaos res capped at level 55 or so. Hold off on killing Kitava until you can safely take the -30/-60% res hit.

Last gauntlet was by far the most fun one ever to play through the campaign of as a casual. Don't watch any streamers so don't care about that. The campaign in this one kind of sucks because adding the extra world bosses doesn't really make the act bosses harder, just more tedious. And then mapping on Phrecia ascendancies in gauntlet just feels like you're playing regular SSF. I don't think anyone at GGG actually plays the game through. Like SSF all the way to end game to level 95+. If they did and think the game is fun I applaud them. Testing something in isolation is not playing. Having dev mode to give you all the stats and items you want to test is not playing. Skills suck. Trying to combo them on paper seem cool but trying it in end game you'll die waiting to pull off the next skill. There's a fundamental incongruence here. They want slow "meaningful combat" yet everything is so punishing that you're forced to find the meta build to zoom and one-shot everything. Even then the loot/reward is ass so how do you expect players that are doing the slow "meaningful combat" suppose to get anywhere?

- Gameplay is too slow. Just global speed things up 2x and it'll be so much better. Faster movement, faster skills, faster enemies, etc. You can still have "meaningful combat" at 2x (at least) speed. With the game play speed right now it feels like playing a turn based game and the enemy always cheats by taking turn all the time.
- Crafting (aka gambling) sucks like everyone says.
- XP loss and losing the map on death is not fun. It's like every map is hardcore mode. Imaging starting up a new game and every time you die you have to start from the beginning. Part of what makes gaming fun is actually getting to retrying and getting better.
- Actually fix the things people are complaining about (many common things) rather than trying to sidestep it. For example, having to juice towers suck. Towers suck. Not because towers are not fun enough because there's not enough content in them. They just suck. The whole concept suck.
- Here's a biggie. Unwillingness to admit when you're wrong and fix the game but instead doubling down.

PoE players are scrubs. I play HCSSF. I've even played deadeyes to 99 and only died to my own incompetence. You don't need to sit in white maps forever. What you need to do is get capped spell suppression, 1k/1k armor evasion chest, and 4k life. That's really all you need to farm t16s. There are other things you can do, but they're less reliable. Chaos res isn't even that important if you're awake. Ideally reach 30% and you're good, but you don't absolutely need it to push the atlas. Most of the time when you die instantly in PoE its because you don't have spell suppression. Spells will instantly kill you without it (fireball mages, goats. Spoken from experience). In other words, play right side of the tree. I recommend using haste and determination. Gamble for a good chest and weapon and you're fine to progress the atlas.
Also:

>use ichors on chest and helm for phys taken as elemental damage

People really exaggerate how limiting hardcore mode is in PoE. 6 portal meta destroys softcore players brains. There's a lot of truth to the meme that PoE players are complete shit at video games.
