No the default option is to take the 30% DR with only taking brew if you're about to be hit by something that will very regularly completely rape you. They both guard for the same amount of damage overall but the 30% DR just makes it so the shield itself "lasts longer". You'll get a moderate 30% DR for like 5 to 10 seconds whereas with the first that shield gets depleted instantly and you're back to having no DR. Spreading it out is superior for Brew in a bubble.
