It was the first OW event. Happened at the same time as the real world 2016 olympics. They made a mediocre lucio soccer minigame and also some skins that were olympic themed either sports uniforms or country flags. It was hype because evreything OW did at that point was considered perfect (like how you see people glaze MR endlessly today)
Then the years went on they run the same event each year slowly going less olympic themed and more just general summer themed. One year they revamped the soccer minigame to be more faster paced another year they added a volleyball minigame but that's about it.
Like last year they just made every single skin goonerbait lifeguards and also didn't bother to fix a common bug where the volleyball just clips through the map causing your score to not count so it's not really a surprise they just gave up on it entirely
