BF4 and BF1 mortars are so heinously nerfed you basically get to use them as a special ability every respawn and then you have to wait a minute to use them again. Also they get progressively less accurate as you shoot so you're lucky to get more than 1 kill per salvo.

However, I think you're actually able to change kits using support ammoboxes, I thought I saw this in the preview event, but I could have imagined it. If this is the case, the thing to do would be shoot mortars, swap to a normal support loadout until you die so you don't have an empty gadget slot until your mortars are off cooldown, then repeat

Battlefield Vietnam is actually a really based game. The in-game radio with rock anthems of the era you could blast from the helicopters was fucking soul incarnate.

The game never had a chance to take off into the mainstream because 1942 was still going strong, players knew about 2 coming out under a year later, and 2004 was a HUGE year for video games with tons of other options (Half Life 2, Halo 2 and Xbox Live, San Andreas, Burnout 3 Takedown, MGS3 Snake Eater, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, KOTOR 2, Table, Counter Strike Source, not to mention the launch of World of Warcraft)

It was probably the most sandboxy that these refractor battlefields ever got. But without a browser we have no way of knowing if EA is forcing only a certain amount of people into games just to make sure bots are always there. You could be in a 20 v 20 and there's five other 20 v 20's going on and they aren't being merged to one lobby.

That's a lie or you misunderstood something because secure boot only checks for unsigned firmware drivers during bootup. Of course there are cheats you can hide into firmware for like a mouse (which has happened) but they are edge cases among edge cases, private hacks that you bring to an esport tournament that cost probably thousands of dollars. It does nothing against normal hacks that fool the anticheat that sits on the kernel level.

In theory what you said is true as it's good logic and a perfectly reasonable expectation, but it's just not panning out. BF2042 has had little apparent market impact on BF6. These are also early pre-orders, outside the two week guarantee refund window and two months early

BF2042 never made it to #1 from memory, but to put it into better perspective it appears BF2042 never broke top 5 best selling over the same period of time (5-7 days).
I don't think it ever made it to the top selling chart during its release period either... Although BF6 isn't in its release period obviously

Yes, all true. I agree. The actual outlook for the game looks good though, and there are a lot of strong positive indicators outside of the marketing -"green flags" so to say.
If this was a prediction market then the unprecedented level of alpha access & beta access, the numerous & long amounts of real gameplay footage made available, and the earliness with which gameplay is revealed are all positive indicators. Among others.
BF2042 was basically the opposite of all the 'good indicators.' They had things like a very closed alpha which was under a very strict NDA.
The NDA itself caused a minor controversy with EA, which obviously is always unpopular. The Alpha still leaked as being the worst Alpha of all time.
The Beta had a period before release half as long as BF6s. It had a mixed reception among the most invested segment of their main base. Etc.

The past few games have all had weak launch figures, numerically and financially, except BF2042 embarrassingly for the former category. BF6 has already trended better than 1, V and 2042

2042's pre launch was so bizarre. Like we had one or two trailers and then just radio silence. There were miniscule amounts of actual video leaks and instead we just had tons of the main shill streamers say what they saw behind closed doors. I remember people on /v/ constantly saying that it was odd we saw zero gameplay so far. I think in their MP reveal trailer there was maybe 5 seconds of actual first person real game footage and when we saw it the streamers revealed it was the same trailer they saw ages ago.

The beta itself was atrocious too. Like not even from an unfun perspective it just barely worked. So much shit was bugged and barely worked. The only cope at that point was "its an old build!" which was proven wrong. Its crazy how already the 6 alphas look better in terms of both stability and overall gameplay then launch 2042 was. It could still all be a disaster sure, but they've taken a lot of effort to hide that fact this time around if so.

So what's NEW about this game? What makes it BETTER than 4, 3, and Bad Company 2? What's the selling point? That it's exactly the same as the old ones?

Yes? Assault inherently being the best infantry killing class is not an issue thats by design and classes should have strengths and weakness. What happens if a tank rolls up? Or you need explosives? I never liked being able to spawn on everone in the squad. I even dislike squad leader spawning even though it was added in bf2. It's kinda ruining the flow of the map when someone has the IQ to camp behind and stay alive and people keep spawning from his asshole and the beacons they pop down. I think giving the spawn beacon to spec ops or whatever its called now could be a fun alternative and disable spawning on it if you're not spec ops (recon has it I know, but I'd take it away from the sniper class)

Sure it'd slow down the game not having asshole-spawning but that's not really a complaint I hear in the context of this series. Makes capturing important flags more rewarding and crucial, makes hitching rides more important. Karkand in the OG version was always decided on if the USMC team managed to cap the 1st flag and if they couldn't it would just turn into a nade spam fest or spawncamp but I think that's the real reason the maps are remembered.

Well that's true, as far as I know only Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 have stuck out, but there indeed used to be so many different mods. I'm too young to remember any of those firsthand though :D In retrospect PoE2 had an interesting setting.

But I'm very happy to have found FH2 and that it's still alive and strong. I doubt anything any AAA studio ever makes can ever top what we have already.

I have to wage in 8 hours, but I already played the pre-alpha earlier this year, so the beta isn't all that enticing to me personally, anyways. I guess when I get home, I'll check out what kinds of changes they've made.

Liberation Peak, Firestorm and Mirak have everything.
Sobek City we don't know if it has air or just vehicles.
The North Korea map will probably be infantry + tanks, the market map will be infantry only. The hardline map probably has helos but no jets.

Almost all the buildings have interiors, what more could you want?? Also almost all the maps have POI between Conquest objectives that you can play and fight in.
