There really is no more aoe farming, anon. Mages are single targets outside of dungeons when tanks have aggro.

There's some deceit by omission being used: The 10 target cap for aoe damage isn't why mages can't farm anymore, it's because mobs on epoch are set to ignore pathing/gravity/walls and bee-line if they sense they're being pathing-exploited.

take the worst possible outcome (2 weeks, 4 weeks, from now, whatever you think) and double it. if by that date it's not ready, give a new eta. that is MUCH better than no eta at all. now developers can work work with less pressure and players can go do something else. and if you get it working before the eta, good, now there's time for polish/bugfixes/new features/whatever. and you'll have enough players to test regardless.

you should underpromise and overdeliver. the only thing people are getting now are overpromises (i know they aren't meant that way, but they are interpreted that way) with no tangible deliveries.

i know it's scary but from my experience as a developer users/stakeholders/clients definitely handle eta's and delayed eta's way better than vague promises/updates and technical specs. people just want a date to hone in on, if that date updates, it's easy to adjust to.

time estimation is very difficult yes, especially when there are many unknowns. giving an eta sounds more intimidating than it is, every stakeholder i've met have been perfectly fine with rough eta's, even changing eta's, it's not the end of the world as long as they have a date to pin.

i'm that anon and yes i work in technology. i haven't done management per se but i've been responsible for many software projects towards stakeholders. all they need is an eta and they don't care about the technical side of things. sometimes you have to bring up technical details to explain to someone that something might not be physically possible to implement but you keep it dumbed down in that case. they just want a date to hone in on and i really understand them even better now being on the other side of the fence.
