There is no grand master stroke for 0.3. The update will be the same size as 0.2, if GGG had something up
their sleeves, they would have played it then. You'll get at most on reworked hackjob of a poe1 league
mechanic, a few new ascendancies, and a bunch of retarded conditional support gems no one wants to use.
ONE new skill will be the meta skill and it will be lightning or projectile based. They will push FOMO and MTX
for it and you will pay for it. The rest of the patch notes will be a bunch of nothingburger qol updates. Major
system reworks and community requests like in-game trade integration, hotswapping controller/kb, gem links
tied to the character and not the gem, etc will go unanswered and swept under the rug. There will be no grand
innovations and you will be strung along like this until 1.0. Enjoy paypigging during the preleague hype cycle
based on 10 second trailers and bullshots only to be abandoned 2 weeks in when the dev team shifts back to 1.

I legit did the math on this and there isn't that many more nodes, its 10-15% more travel nodes iirc. The real difference is you're forced onto main paths, in PoE1 there's all these shortcuts through clusters you can take, like golem blood or that chaos one near templar so you can cut a lot of travel out

I don't think you played poo2 too much. Those points are needed if you want to use high level skill gems. I am struggling on my monk to get the attribute requirements for my gems since they require both dex and int.
The only non starved attribute location is warrior for str. Witch/Sorc location is attribute starved and dex is somewhere on the middle.

Ye cuz you gotta take GB and equip an expert temple mace or whatev, and that's when the REAL starvation starts.
Anyway I don't think POE2 is way off the mark with attribute nodes. The tree is ugly and the necessity to have attributes on gear feels different, but it's so easy to manage with every attribute point being respeccable into any attribute, I don't even mind it personally.
The tree is butt-ugly and I wish it had masteries and more cool passives though.

I think they need to sort out stat requirements because they're way higher for both items and skills in POE2 than 1 and somehow it still feels like you don't get enough even with all the travel nodes. Item pressure feels a bit higher and dare I say makes defensive gearing much worse because it feels like only ES/Evasion combined is worth anything. They combine really nicely on my crossbow bloodmage with the 25% damage reduced and degen'd, it's very easy to double the HP with the orbs and use eternal youth to fill it up if you had to spam shit while there's no crits for more orbs on bosses etc

The reason why it's mandatory now is because blocking is the only good defensive layer warriors have. If armour was good and had good nodes on the tree then it would take away from it's power and encourage more people to use 2x 2handers in their regular play.
As it is now, you only use 2x 2handers on weapon swap to a drop a big hammer on bosses and that's it.

For all the flak POE2 gets, I absolutely love the titanic amount of lore fanservice they did with fleshing out these various characters who are just a name on some item in POE1, or POE2 playable chars worshipping deities the POE1 exile just randomly whacked in the campaign/mapping. Take block away and you'll still want to play 2h DW for the most part, with very rare exceptions being specialized unique stuff like mjolner or olso. It just pushes melee characters into 1 kind of build (str stacker) and it will always do that as long as the node is good and there isn't a diversity of useful nodes that make you unable to use it.

I'm aware and this is even gayer to me, 2h+shield/2h+2h being the default loadout is so boring. It's gonna take the game years to get some kind of loadout diversity, and GB will be like 60% to blame for that.
I just want at least the level of 1h-2h-DW balance that POE1 has, which is far from perfectly balanced, but at every setup has its own identity and advantages. In POE2 it's "do this or you're retarded".

Some of the issues aren't QA but just the devs not understanding what makes a game fun.
Think back to release and how Boneshatter worked.

Someone designed it like this and it worked as intended, QA likely found no issues with how it was supposed to work.
It was just a dogshit mechanic to the point where they had to add a support gem that makes the Boneshatter gameplay loop not retarded and even then, they refuse to just bake it into the Boneshatter gem so that you can still Boneshatter a mob for a few moments after heavy stunning it as if it would make a huge difference to allow that.
It shows that the PoE 2 devs are genuinely just retarded, they care about their insane vision of how something should work rather than if it's fun or not.

about half the campaign, and just under half of the classes and their sub classes. Will take a casual a good 10-15 hours for the first 3 acts which then repeat in a slight new game + style before you get to something similar to an adventure mode which is the end game. won't hurt to try it out in its current state but I'd leave it until the next patch at the very least which is the end of the month and will change basically everything I've just talked about in some way

Maces do a ton of damage, have a ton of coverage. Obviously they're not for everyone but saying they're bad is like saying POE1 brands are bad, just completely misguided.

Spears are FOTM as fuck and some of the melee spear skills (bleed spear, whirling snapshot memes) are just fine as well.

The only thing that sucks about POE2 melee is that there are relatively few options for skills, but this applies to every archetype, there just aren't enough abilities in the game.

So who should I believe?
I only play melee so it all depends on how playable it is. I remember playing melee in poe1 and it was fine until you got to the maps after which I just quit the game because they were too difficult

I think scenarios are like this are very common even outside of blight, there are scenarios where mobs apply various inc damage taken mods on you that aren't resistable and CB damage goes up quite a bit. On top of that, if you don't run specifically a regen build, CB can fuck you by staying on you after you've cleared all the mobs (disabling your reactive recovery or leech). I just make a point of getting immunity in every gauntlet because it doesn't cost me much but it lets me not think about it.

I'll give you my own perspective. It's not necessarily shared by others, but this is why I dislike PoE 2.

1. It competes with PoE for development resources. GGG has a small team that work on both games. Any time spent on PoE 2 is that much time not spent on PoE.
2. GGG went back on their promise to have one game, two campaigns. They claimed they didn't want to split their player base, yet here we are - split.
3. The game plays VERY slowly compared to PoE. Movement speed in itself does not offer meaningful friction, but instead makes everything take longer for the sake of holding you back.
4. Crafting is completely random. All the problems that were essentially solved with PoE are now re-introduced in PoE 2.
5. WASD-movement feels like an afterthought.
6. Gem restrictions mean that I can't support main skills of my choice in the way I want.
7. Chris Wilson left the company in 2023 because he realized that neither game could fulfill his vision. When the main mind behind the game leaves, that tells you a lot.
8. Build diversity is almost non-existent as evidenced by Lightning Spear being dominant.
9. Melee characters get shafted again.
