When you think about it it's funny because spellboost rune and ramp dragon have pretty much the exact same gameplan, weaknesses and matchup spread... except rune is 10 times better at everything

My personal theory is that Shadow's allowed to be top tier so often because it's just a less frustrating top tier to play against than any other craft. Rune, Dragon, Haven and Blood are inherently uninteractive when they're strong enough. Sword and Portal often feel overwhelming to play against even when they're NOT good. Only really leaves Forest and Shadow, and Forest tends to be really swingy.

Your opponents don't always have the perfect answer, and even if they do they'll need to use it eventually (especially given that you're an aggro deck, so you're much more likely to use your mana entirely on curve). I don't think you really get the importance of 1 drop with Rush.
If you threw Ivory and they have answer to it, then the board will be empty for most of the time until evo turn when it's a matter of whether you drew Fishman or they drew Zirc. You don't take any damage, nor them.
If you threw Ivory and they don't have answer to it, it's 1 chip damage per turn as long as it stays on board.
If you don't have Ivory and threw fan or the sword instead, they can either Quickblader your ass for 1 chip damage per turn unless you drew lizard which you should save for Valse, or they coin lancetrooper and start building their board, or they coin Prim and throw a 3/3 on Turn 2 which you can't remove yet at that point.

The game is going nowhere as long as rune exists as it is. I don't know how to feel about the card desu. He's insanely strong to drop on an empty board, and the mirror feels good to play him first. Usually though it feels like you have to worry too much about clearing the board, especially late, to drop him without evolving.
