On one hand it has M+, WoD Models and level scaling all retoilet features that don't really belong in Classic, on the other it has a huge focus on the open world and taking it slow to explore everyone and look for new quests and cool treasures, even if it's a fucking green pair of shoes with 2 spirit. It seems like they're trying to appeal to everyone and I'm just not sure it works.

If you've been around retail, at least since Legion, the open world was very much designed with walking/riding in mind. If you had flying before then, you'd be deprived of ever having to consider the terrain. Navigating the terrain is part of the fun of open world traversal. Mounting up, pressing space bar and just ignoring it completely demeans everything and trivialises objectives.
That isn't really true in more recent expansions which are designed with flight in mind, with huge swathes of space between objectives being just empty with nothing really going on. At least flying now has some sort of gameplay associated with it.

Getting logged is basically inevitable. Unless you're actively standing in fire and dying every pull no one really cares if you don't parse well as long as you're making some effort to push buttons and do mechanics right. The ones who do care you probably wouldn't want to play with anyways. Parsing in wow (especially vanilla) is kind of a meme anyways since its 80% gear and 20% actual skill/optimization.
Logs are first and foremost intended to be an improvement tool. People just misuse them as a dick measuring contest.

Chests should be locked by default.
When a chest spawns, a mob should spawn with it that blends in with the local area's mob types. If you kill the mob, you earn a generic chest key that has a duration of 5 minutes.
(5 minutes means you can't hold onto this key and then use it later on a different chest, so the devs dont need to create 50 different chests and 50 different key items).
You can then use that key to open the chest.
Ta'da.
Or you could pick lock as a rogue, maybe.

you can do a lot of parsetranny behaviour in retail but classic logs are a different level of absurd, it almost entirely stems down to boss encounter length and luck with crits, since the gameplay is very simplistic
retail logs at least come with the understanding of the playerbase that the fights are mechanically complex and quite demanding, in classic people immediately just look at what colour the number is and that's it. it's why parsing did incredible harm to classic and why a lot of people looking for something like epoch don't really want it to follow them, they want something comfier.

I remember back on Light's Hope first weeks of BWL I got top1 server warlock dps on Nefarian by asking a pala to bop me during add phase, chugging Holy Water at them and proceeding to Hellfire.
I was like 40% more dps than the 2nd place warlock and my record held for a couple months or something.
I dont think people should care about top parses as much as they should care about worst parses in the given raid to remove the shitters.
