I think almost every time an anon goes "/svg/ is retarded I told you guys X was Y" and backlinks evidence, they're cherry picking a few posts that exist because anon isn't one person. Like the really common one is ward haven where a few anons are convinced they were the only ones who saw it being overrated when the thread was really pretty evenly split on it at best. I saw a ton of posts that said it was bait before the set was out.

It's a confluence of two different positions and them being too dumb to realize that they painted themselves into a corner with their own actions.

In a vacuum this isn't a particularly bad stance to have since the addition of new cards can radically shake up a meta and solve card balance problems.

This is a knee-jerk reaction to people complaining that the original meta in SV1 was solved too early and was stagnant at launch. The problem is that since they're still adhering to the first point, they've gone and setup a situation where there physically isn't any room in the schedule for them to issue balance patches. Each new release is within the the "wait and see if the next set fixes things" window.

I have another theory too. SV2 released with an unusually small card pool, and many of the craft mechanics are conspicuously missing or half implemented. Stuff like Blood's self harm payoff cards, or the half-implementation of Dragon's discard theme. I speculate that every set within this accelerated release window was originally part of one big "launch set." If any internal balance testing was done, it was probably done with this original big launch set. Later some suit probably wanted to stagger smaller releases "to keep the meta fresh", and so the launch set was haphazardly splintered into a handful of extremely tiny sets without any regard to how gameplay balance would be with most of the launch set missing.

eh, abyss might not be a petcraft but it has felt okay to play in both sets so far (my account is abyss seeded and i ended up playing the deck from day 1 when everyone was calling it shit). vuella is really strong both as a standalone 3 drop and as a target for charon, and the 2 drops that are used with her (beryl, phil, orthrus) are mostly tempo plays so i think we'll get something better eventually.

Both are in a weird spot. Charon is kind of screwed over in that she doesn't really have ideal resurrection targets. She's going to be crazy if she can ever start reanimating things with more impactful last words effects or that have stuff like rush/storm by default.

Ginsetsu/Yuzuki is a fairly strong midrange card in that she can generate some pretty good card advantage by either spamming a ton of wards or nuking an opponent's board. She wants to play into the midrange strategy of fighting over board control with efficient cards and outlasting an opponents' evo point supply. Abyss does that style of fighting very well in that they can make a variety of impactful plays in the late game after evo points are normally exhausted. However that style of fighting isn't meta at the moment. Rune and sword are by far the biggest participants in the meta, and rune is about to combo off on T10 with Dclimb. Sword on the other hand can go blow for blow with Abyss in the late game endurance fight since they have fucking 5 SEVO points and half their deck has rush or destroys opponents' shit on fanfare. Ginsetsu/Yuzuki has been pretty backbreaking in the late game when fighting against the odd opponent who isn't rune/sword.

At 5pp she can kill anything for free while drawing you a card.
During early turn you can kill opponent evoed card for free and bank samurai for albert 9pp turn, or draw lumi and clear ANY board with gildaria for free, or draw gunmaid and kill ANYTHING for free.

Ginyu is the best card in the game once evos are down, I think this card is actually underrated. Like some control decks are carried by their wincon, some by their value and draw, Ginyu carries with her sheer control ability. She IS control abyss. It's literally norm+william on one card.

I've got a couple of opinions. IMO the "control" abyss deck is still midrange. Regardless, I don't think that you need Charon. I want to like her, and you can user her, but I don't think that she has sufficient payoff with the current pool of cards that we have. I feel like I honestly get better value from Darkseal Demon outside of ultra late game T10 plus plays where Charon is reanimating coco/mimi and one tailed fox.

No matter what, you need a full playset of Aragavy and Cerberus. The "control" versions of the deck will want ginsetsu, even though I disagree about labeling it as control. People are a bit over the place on whether they play full playsets of Olivia/Medusa/Odin or just 2 of them. I've seen that value fluctuate around a lot.

There is a variant of abyss decklist right now that focuses on amassing ghosts in hand via the 1pp follower that generates ghosts and charon reanimations. Those extra ghosts setup some potential for respectable bursts of storm damage off of cerberus/veulaa/exella/olivia effects. Such a deck might be more accessible since you might not need ginsetsu copies for it, and might not need a playset of medusa.

However you slice things, you need that playset of Aragavy for any serious Abyss deck. Him being played at 3x is the one central truth amidst all of the different abyss brews.

Early leaders with very few exceptions are minimally animated, pixelated, choppy and rigid, they only started looking actually good around the time Naht, Laura, Houchan, Dark Jeanne etc came out, I guess Kuon and Tsubaki were okay too. But you can really see the jump in quality between then and anythong before. Even around Naht time there were some really shit leaders too like Wolfraud and Milteo though. well as i said, you're playing the deck wrong because the exella deck plays for early pressure + stacking up on ghosts and then bursting the opponent down with odin/exella/vuella combos/ghosts/crypt + cerb. you shouldn't even be considering using cerb's 6 heal, you want to use sevos for offense. the deck isn't that good into ward haven, sure, but it's pretty rare on the ladder and it does fine into the decks that you'll be seeing 90% of the time.

I really miss OG artifact from the expansion it came out in in 1, where you put them in the deck and then pulled them out of it, I know Portal is a localization but it really did feel like you were creating artifacts and then using portals to deploy them. They gave up on that idea so quickly... Only a few sets later you were barely putting stuff in the deck anymore and were just putting them in your hand, making it feel like a Forest sidegrade class.
I actually like that they gave it an identity again with this mass production thing, personally. I would've preferred deck shuffling though. Seems like this identity is here to stay anyway since it says the class mass produces stuff on the deck creation screen. Just have to hope for more different artifacts down the line I guess, it'd be dreadful if ominous are all we get.

Rune is as slow or even slower than Seraph and Aegis Haven were back in the day. Tanaka-san being used as an excuse doesn't fly when they made both rune and sword way better at slowing the game down in their favor. The devs just have a bias towards certain classes and playstyles they want to promote.

I think they're still distinct enough, my problem with the game is the powerlevel of the cards being too high and too much removal. Removal makes nothing stick so there's barely any trading, and high power finishers like satan climb and albert have basically no requirement to them other than reaching turn 9/10. If every deck was like artifact with having to work for its win condition and only being able to use it once per game on average, the game would be much healthier.
