You could probably do okay with it on Tempest or Catalyst then. You wont hit those super high peaks but it'll be much more respectable and consistent damage than flubbing the Weaver rotations and both of those offer strong group boons. But if this is for open world and not raids or some shit who fucking cares just bee yourself. Weaver adds a few bonus skills to thee kit like an extra dodge, an extra daze, and an extra rapid fire. Its fun.

Power Rev, usually Herald, can get away with mostly not swapping weapons if your other set is a staff and you only switch to it for CC.
Thief weaponskills don't have cooldowns so you tend to just stay in whatever weapon is best.
You can play kitless Engineer or fire-camping Inferno Tempest.
Autoattack Hammer Guardian or Unload Deadeye if you don't even want to swap which button you press on the same weapon.
There are some builds where you technically swap but you have the same weapon equipped in both slots so it's just a button to proc your sigils. I don't know which ones are decent.

All of them use one weapon set or duplicate sets. You place your mainhand weap in set 1 (scepter) and the off-hand weap in set 2 (dagger). This allows you to weild both at the same time. You use sigils that activate on weapon swap and when you swap, you just stay in the same set but the sigls activate.

Anyone else notice a lack of combat identity in some of these specs? The luminary uses all the weapons and you will use every weapon in your rotation. The skrittmancer uses random meme weapons and you spam them as much as possible. Now the conduit's identity is that you can use ALL the legends, wow!
It feels lazy and uninspired. Makes me not want to try them. This isn't the case with the other specs but they have issues of their own.

Amalgam: Best looking spec by far. I love how customizable it is as well as the symbiote theme. Juggernaut was my first legendary weapon, I will try this class out no matter what.
Evoker: The element specialization is interesting, I'm curious how stuff like air hare/Inferno/Fresh Air would perform and how well sword works with it, the magic swordsman fantasy and frequent attunement swapping is the main reason I play weaver.

Mirage is pretty good right now, I like it's dodge mechanic. With energy sigils, vigor boon, and the mirage mirror skills you dodge so much shit basically just passively. I personally like staff/staff mirage a lot but I think there are technically better weapon combos.

Hey so I'm a boomer MMO refugee that is looking for something to play. I asked /xivg/ if their game ever starts to feel like a 'traditional MMORPG' where you interact with the open world zones and they said no and they sent me here.

I used to play GW2 and stopped during HoT but bought Path of Fire but never really played it. I bounced off because the writing got really annoying and gay. Also the Asura's neon aesthetic got really obnoxious after HoT.

How's the writing these days? I loved Guild Wars 1 but 2 feels like it was written by Joss Whedon/Marvel fans. TYVM.

The story is not very good. The only parts that people think are good are Heart of Thorns to Path of Fire or Living World Season 4, and maybe the first half of Icebrood Saga. I think the world is cool but yeah the actual writing and characters are garbage.
As far as open world stuff.. I don't play a lot of MMO's but I feel like GW2 has the best open world content by a mile. Lots of events popping off all over the place, big zone wide meta-events (basically event chains that end in big spectacle world bosses). They've done a great job keeping all the old expansions' content valuable and active too. If you need help on an event or anything just saying something in map chat will usually have people coming to help etc. The exploration in the open world is great too, lots of cool stuff to see, jumping puzzles, fun terrain to whip around on on your mounts. Open world content is generally pretty easy/casual, with a couple exceptions where you want somewhat coordinated 50-man squads.

It stays on roughly the same level from HoT until middle of Icebrood Saga. Nosedives hard during End of Dragons then recovers a bit in last too expansions. Sadly production quality steadily declines after EoD, so it does feel extra bad these days.
That said if you approach story and characters as a theme backdrop, GW2 has the best feeling mmo world. You meet players constantly in majority of the maps, it's easy to spontaneously coop, navigating terrain and running around is fun, fight system is loose and dynamic like an action game. It's a rare mmo that feels like an mmo, most other games are isolating and you meet up with others only when doing instanced content. Since game is very casual and boomer-full, people don't take everything as competitively as in wow for example. Overall it's a very relaxed experience full of collecting shit and doing whatever you want without pressure.

Great description, just feel like adding on for new anons that getting to 80 and finishing the story often leaves you without an explicit goal, there's not really any standard content progression or gear score treadmill or anything laid out for you after you complete the story. You just do what's fun, or find something to grind for, like legendary equipment, titles, fashion, performing well in PvP/WvW/raids/whatever, etc. You have to find your goals and motivation yourself.

Last two map patches were rough, boring, unfinished and derivative. All story instances consist of slowly walking while half the characters aren't voice, yet talk for minutes. This was stretched across months of slow releases. Plus there are multiple schizo trying to stir shit about dumb opinions. Big GW2 streamer were branching out for a while too, so it seems that even most dedicated people are semi-done with the game. You just came back during cool new announcement and a wave of players getting into it so it seems like things should be up-beat.

Biggest problem is that it's extremely grindy and time-gated. You need tons of resources, gold and making shit weekly. And you can only show them to max 4 people at a time, since it counts as an dungeon group that needs to be posted in LFG or directly invited in. So just for housing it's not worth to buy.
If you want to build personal houses and show them to everyone play ESO. It's way better implemented, you feel like a proper adventurer decorating with cool loot and furniture you found during travels.

Has the story ever actually been good? I enjoyed the pacing of LWS4, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen the story as anything more than serviceable for expanding the world. The most annoying parts are redoing dragonfall collecting multiple times. Blishhud with path finding module speeds that up. Crafting isn't necessary, you can keep playing the game, get 100+ gold, which isn't that long to acquire and buy every item from TP. There are only 3-4 somewhat demanding events to complete.

What do you want from housing?
The feature itself is extremely limited, you can invite people to visit and harvest your resources like in a home instance but, aside from that, all you can do is furnish the place.
Some things are set in stone and you can't tamper with them, for example you can't move your mount stables or the crafting shed, you can't decide what NPCs are there and you have to manually set the time to day or night every time you enter. Your alts are visible if you left them at the homestead, but they're not fully rendered (no back items or weapons) and you can't interact with them aside from getting them to follow you. You can't even get them to emote or pose for some group picture.
As if that wasn't bad enough, decorations cost a lot of materials to craft and some have arbitrary limits in how many you can make.

Get all your mounts and their masteries if you don't have them already. Skyscale is the longest to unlock, also technically the most useful but it makes you gay if you use it too much.
Big thing for most people is to start working on legendaries, namely the free amulet from the Seasons of the Dragons meta-achievement. This is made up of a bunch of "Return to [x Living World map] achievements which are made up of smaller tasks in the respective maps. It's a lot of work but there's a ton of great rewards in it even before you get the free legendary amulet, gets you a lot of the map materials you need for LW4 skyscale collection too if you haven't done that yet.
Before you get going on Seasons of the Dragons I suggest starting the achievements for the Vision and Aurora legendary accessories because they'll have you do some of the same things as Seasons of the Dragons. To start Vision you just need to buy a Trance Stone from volatile magic vendors in LW4 maps. To start Aurora you need to do 4 collection achievements in LW3 maps (Conspiracy of Dunces, Cin Business, Lessons Learned, and Token Collector). Note that Token Collector has some of its tokens in a notoriously difficult jumping puzzle, but there are Blish HUD marker paths to make it easy or sometimes there are mesmers around that will port you through the jumping puzzle. Some parts of getting legendaries and stuff like these can be really frustrating and they take a long time to do but they're worth it.

I'd add Octovine and Chak Gerent especially if you go a little early to get a good map with lots of chests to open while you wait. If you're already at or past Bjora Marches in IBS both meta-events and even just gathering eternal ice are easy and profitable. Then Drizzlewood Coast is a bit higher effort but one of the best open world farms in the game, kinda similar to Dragonfall.
