this game is very mediocre so far. the guns have insane amount of recoil for no good reason or they're pea shooters. it feels like the entire gameplay loop is designed around CQC scenarios unlike what people actually battlefield for which is large, epic battles. honestly just feels like a shit version of cod ground war with most of these small maps except it doesn't have gun play anywhere near even a 6 year old game like modern warfare. movement feels restrictive compared to even 2042, which felt way smoother and precise.

What is up with the online discourse for this game? I am here completely opposite opinions from all corners of the internet. The only consensus is that maps are too small. Across steam, reddit, 4chan, and the EA forums, people are saying:

Full content bfv ruins the best aspect of the game, which is the medic being a close range class. Unfortunately they added long range weapons in dlc, which everyone uses. They completely killed the class identity for medic in that game.

LMG feels too heavy. I'm glad suppression is back but I'm often dead before I can ADS. I would trade no move speed penalty out for better handling as the support class featured weapon perk.

I still stand where I stand with it. If you enjoyed semi auto and bolt action reloading and sprinting with a giant water cooled MG that blocked half your screen gameplay more power to you. I'm not saying it should have been Verdun game play, but it wasn't good. This was also when they were hard hitting their marketing and social media with political shit too that did them no favors.
The planes and zepplins were sick and I thought for sure we would eventually see a 2142 style game again with titans, but around the time of battlefield 4 / 1, they lost complete understanding of what their audience wanted and have been facedown since with terrible executive decisions and design on the battlefield franchise. The company feels like since this that they just follow "trends" rather than making their own and it's honestly pathetic.

this is the only gun i've used which doesn't feel like complete shit. the AR's are all garbage with long TTKs. this has the fastest TTK of any automatic weapon i've tried at least kills semi quickly, but still way slower than 2042 or V.

I feel like assault, medic, support, recon is the better class structure. The engineer class is too specialized. Distribute the anti-vehicle options between all of them. Maybe make the repair torch something you can pick up from a vehicle.

There's almost no recoil. I actually forgot there was recoil entirely because the response to minimum recoil is so autonomous for me. If you play games with slight but almost no recoil like OW you won't even notice it here

I'll let you decide for yourself but you can clearly see that with the base rifle in stock no attachments it's pretty much nothing. It's controller kiddies and COD rapefugees that have next to no recoil or have it reduced on their platform in most their games
There's some pretty violent visual recoil / shaking tbhonest, so maybe people are complaining about that instead. BF6 seems to be using the same system as BF1, 2042 and 4, where recoil and spread is tied to the centre of the screen not the reticle

We don't actually have the full pattern system and recoil changes yet either though so whatever who cares it could be totally different eventually

Haven't played since bf4. Maps are too small confined although liberation peak plays nice. Cairo lacks verticality, chaos there is sometimes fun. Iberian is too confined for the verticality it does have. It's my least favorite. Carabines are better than ARs and they are beams. Balancing wise maps feel surprisingly nice and not one sided. Breakthrough defense on Cairo is rather schizophrenic tho. I like smokes they add depth and play making potential. Movement is OK but doesn't feel as heavy as bf4 lessening the skill ceiling taht entailed. I dont like sliding because muh purity. Tanks are too spongy to verse lots of the time. I definitely do not like the sounds on kill. Makes the game sound like Chinesium or valorant. Imo they should add more recoil and more damage to ARs so they have identity and skill expression is rewarded with less time to kill. Game is eyecandy. Thanks for reading my opinions anon *mwah*.

Its amazing how often in happens. It was a rare sight on BF1's operations mode but it happens nearly game in breakthrough at least 3 times.
I think a lot of new players (I've seen so many self-admitted players who've never played/haven't played since 3/BC2) just don't understand the concept of how score works.

I feel like MW2 (2009) had the right idea making shotguns secondaries so they only have to be balanced against pistols, not primaries.

Let me give you a mostly neutral take from a long time BF player.

gunplay is like MW19 (good)
Destruction is a bit overtuned but looks great
the atmosphere feels like BF4 but the gunplay pulls more towards cod
the recoil is honestly just right to me, there's kick, but there's less random spread which was my big gripe with BF for over a decade, it punished full auto a bit too much, yeah SMGs beaming you over 50-60m shouldn't really happen but I feel it's better this than what you had in bf1 or most bf4 guns.
Movement is quick to start but in general not that fast, slide needs further nerfing (more aim deviation to make it less viable for COD crackheads to abuse)

all in all it's a good template for a BF game, we just need tweaks to everything across the board to dial it in fully, server browser, and much bigger maps.

Vehicle maps always had a ton of engineers to deal with tanks despite not having access to the best weapons. Haven't played a battlefield since bad company 1. The game is way too fast for me now, you just get backstabbed constantly, never know where enemies are coming from.

I never use vehicles in Battlefield, but I liked feeling like an ant on the giant map, avoiding the tanks and helis and sometimes getting to blow them up in the right situation. Now vehicles don't control the map, they're restricted so heavily to a few straight lines.

Alright, took some time to try out sniping and this has by far the best sniping right next to BF1. The feel, the snappyness, the sounds. Automatic rifle gunplay might be a bit sluggish but sniping is amazing in this, good stuff.

Very bad. Im on a 3070ti and with the final settings I've settled on with both perf and visuals in mind, I get 200 in the range. In a real match I get between 95-75 (tho only Cairo has really bad drops for some reason, every other map only drops ffrom 95 to 90 at most). The thing I like about the maps in the beta is that during conquest, they basically focus on giving you that constant back and fourth defend and take over experience from BF1's Amiens. Due to their size instead of just being the two teams circling one another constantly taking and losing objectives, as the game goes on the teams naturally focus on choke fighting around the two middle points with cluttered spaces, while the other points act as rotation suggestions. It's very fun and you get constant action during it.

This has never been true. In every single BF game infantry focused mid sized maps have been king in both player counts and how people remember the games. Battlefield 1, this franchise's most popular and succesfull game, whether you think its the best or not, was especially focused around more mid sized maps where constant fighting naturally formed around points of interest, and the chaos that came from it.

Battlefield 4 is the game that had the most open maps and what you see today is people deciding to either sit in the slaughtermaps 24/7 or leave the server when something like Altai Range comes on. The truth is outside of fun long range sniping, the franchise never really properly did anything with large maps outside of making you get on a bike or in a hummer to drive before getting to play the game. The guns have always been balanced around close to mid range, the vechiles are the best at medium to close range and all the core modes feel best in a mid range scenario.

Battlefield's main thing has been vechiles and explosives. Going around an empty field before reaching the actual map layout has never been the reason people play Battlefield.

I think there is something to be said for the difference in pacing between large maps and small maps. There is an ebb and flow versus constant chaos and both feel good for different reasons.

The dynamic of how you approach and fight over points is also completely different in a bigger map versus a smaller infantry-focused map with limited lanes of traversal to move through and lots of chokepoints.

Variety has always been one of the biggest strengths of the franchise.

The maps being boring wasn't even the biggest issue as much as them being aids and intentionally designed, straight from the dev's mouth, to have a million angles and cubbies so bad players could get kills on better ones coupled with a super low TTK and thunderous footsteps. I'm pretty sure they removed some of the maps from queue after release because they were so hated and that's from the devs that have shipment 24/7 playlists. There was also still piccadily which had a good chance of at least half the lobby immediately leaving when it was selected.

This gameplay on mid sized maps is perfect for me, constant fun and holding and attacking points feels awesome. I don't mind getting only 3 super large maps at launch if they're nice. Sniping is the best its ever been, feels absolutely amazing. I honestly think the automatic weapons have way too much recoil for a BF game, I don't know where this laserbeam cod bullshit is coming from, guns have never kicked this hard in a BF game before, and there's a lot of bullet spread too.

The problem is that fast firing weapons combined with dog shit servers and hit reg make it so it doesn't seem like that. The more time goes on the better it gets, people are slowing down a little and finding good defensible positions and running around like chickens without heads. A lot of my matches have been proper fights over the rubber point or have a semi consistent front line. I even had a fantastic 10+ minute defense of the C point on Iberian, constant rezing, the building was completely destroyed, no cover left.

It's got potential lads, I'd like to see bigger maps.

If you look at the killfeed you can see he killed the guy, but because of networking problems the guy also killed him. That's not the fault of meleeing, but in most situations people would just instakill you with their gun instead of trying to melee you back.

The actual point of it is an emergency option for when you're running with the knife equipped. Equipping the knife makes you run faster, so in the event that you run up to some guy and he turns around before you can execute him you can still try to damage him even though you will end up dying 99% of the time. One shot knife attacks and frontal takedowns are long gone.

90% of the hype was the introduction of warzone, especially being for free coming off of Blackout a year earlier.
The aesthetic was also very "gun porn"-y which was cool, but everything else about the game was forgettable.
The campaign got spilled for a bit for being The Hurt Locker/10 but it has very low replayability.
Special Ops came back but was just Warzone map mini missions that nobody played.
The multiplayer was really rough and died quickly because everyone was just playing Warzone.
The next game, Black Ops Cold War, which was hamfisted together out of development hell, literally offered a better overall package, though it had its own problems.

Just don't fucking drop texture quality, filtering and mesh quality from the highest settings. They cost 0 performance and turning those low turns the game into a blurry mess. Every single DLSS option looks super sharp as long as you have those on.

If your monitor is 4K and your render resolution is 50%, it renders at exactly 1080p, you can literally see this in the top left if you turn on the performance overlay.

As for why it looks worse than 1080p for you, no idea. but upscaling usually looks worse than native on the same resolution.

Yeah this is a huge problem and they need to be better about fixing it. I have the same issue with Xbox. I literally can't play EA games with my Xbox account because it's linked to an EA account with an email that doesn't exist.
