Looking into it a bit further, "substance" refers to the solid structure of the physical world. That immovability, the persistence, against anything against him. But a "Dream"... is not physical. It is not "real". A dream is a metaphysical concept, it's something you aspire to, something you imagine. It doesn't "exist", until you make it so. That isn't "Earth", exactly. Because to be rooted in the ground is to be rooted in reality. The physical material world, solid ground that you can touch and feel with your five senses.

Something like a "dream" is as elusive as the air itself. But, not quite the same as the wind, though. To be one with the wind is to be detached from all earthly tethers, as well as the internal ones. Unburdened by past or future. So, I think a "Dream" is something much that you'd only see when your head is truly in the clouds. So high up in the sky that you nearly pierce the heavens...

I don't need Tails to be cool, to be a fan of him. Do I want that? Of course I do, I wanna see Tails reach the highest of all the heavens. I wanna see Tails have the level of respect and recognition that Sonic does. But do I NEED to see that? No, not really. Because, that's not why I connected with him in the first place.

What made me a Tails fan was relatability. I was a shy, quiet kid who always latched onto someone cooler and louder to follow around. I wanted to be someone like Sonic, but I had to realize one day that I'm not Sonic. It was in that moment that I understood Tails, as I felt that he and I were in a similar position. And so, I embraced being "Tails". I became a big fan of Tails. My favorite color is yellow and orange, (also blue, of course), because of Tails.

Tails became a central baseline for my sense of identity, and I practically wear that loud and proudly. I look up to Sonic and see everything I wish I could be. But when I look at Tails, I see a mirror. I mirror showing who I once was, a mirror showing who I am now... and a mirror showing everything I KNOW I could be.

I want to see Tails reach the highest of all the heavens, because that's what I want to attain for myself, so I resonate with Tails' own aspirations to reach those same heights. I aspire to be like Sonic some day, but I'm inspired by Tails being able to keep up. And I know that someday, Tails WILL reach those heights. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow... But in time, that day will come. And when it does, I'll be there cheering him on.

Tails saves Station Square from Eggman's deadly missile attack.
Station Square awards Tails with the yellow Chaos Emerald.
Tails studies the Chaos Emerald to make the Fake replica.
Tails gives the fake Chaos Emerald to Sonic, while he keeps the real one.
Eggman deduces that Sonic might have the fake, and goads Tails into spilling the beans.
Eggman sends Sonic and the fake out into space and "kills him", before going after Tails to get the real one
While Sonic saves himself using Chaos Control with a FAKE Emerald because he's an absolute giga-chad, Tails fought Eggman. But after Eggman was defeated, he steals the real Chaos Emerald and then puts it into the Eclipse Cannon, which activates Gerald's final message stuff.

Tails having the real, actual Chaos Emerald because of his accomplishment in SA1 is a MAJOR plot point in the whole game.

If you pick any of the games, regardless of his demeanor, dialogue, and supporting cast Sonic is literally always the unbreakable hero with incredible sheer force of will. There are literally two games where this shows any sign of wavering.
