As an example, compare stringing light punches together with a character. You just mash them and they chain. Now compare it to a character that has st.MP, c.MP. The st.MP has to be plus enough on hit that the startup of c.MP can mathematically combo. Then you need to do the c.MP with the proper timing in order for it to combo. A target combo you just do it, the moves cancel into eachother almost like special cancels. Whether they are natural combos or not (they combo without requiring a counterhit) varies.

Instead of holding his ground full screen at most a Guile will throw maybe four or five booms and set up a blade before drive rushing in. I'm not going to pretend that Drive Parry kills zoners as much as 3s parry does, but it does make it unoptimal. JP is the only zoner that can fully sit in that niche because he's a monster that's made for SF6 and he has a wide breadth of projectile bullshit that needs to be answered differently.

I do think it's interesting how they decided to balance tiger shot in this game knowing that "just keep them out lol" doesn't really work on its own with parry. wins fireball wars, stops neutral skips, recovers fast but doesn't threaten the drive gauge too much and punishable by sweep up close. mostly exists to condition them to sit still so sagat can can play midrange with big buttons or TK jumpscare. it feels like a more interesting solution than "we gave him an install/stocks that let him do SFV zoner things in SF6 and made the rest of him shit to compensate"
