I like the vast majority of the content in the game, kdrives/mechs/archwing/railjacks are all just MR fodder that aren't useful outside of the missions where you farm MR for them. Any weapon or frame is useful in almost any mission if you build for it, no amount of modding is going to make kdrives useful for anything.
They seem to have finally learnt their lesson and decided not to make the bike have 20 different components you have to mine or roleplay as a literal spearchucker for an hour to build and level up individually.

Mirage is the Queen of ESO KPM until Wave 10-12 approx. I mog every other nuke frame easily.
It's a little investment for someone that doesn't have access to the whole game yet. But Mirage is worth it.
Bring a weapon to deal with Eximus units, or Overguard (something with magnetic for ex:) or a multi-target weapon. (Either a beam or maybe an explosive weapon. I was here testing the Akarius and they were doing some good work)
Don't bother with Incarnons because you'll be wasting time charging those, unless it's like the Torid or something, or maybe the Prisma Angstrum Incarnon.
Primers are good too, if you want to use them. Any melee would do desu, I use the Okina for the movement stat.
I run Zenurik too but it's maybe overkill, you may not need that.
Subsume Roar over Eclipse to get double status procs, and overall it's much better for the build. Your 2nd nuking ability will do more damage.
I need further testing with some Arcanes, maybe Arcane Impetus would be better with a primer over Energize? Energize is comfy though. Anyway...
The playstyle:
You TP into the portal, If you have Zenurik you can start by casting 1 and 2 with the Operator, you cast her 4th and shoot a few enemies, immediately cast her 2nd to get the bombs going. Once you have the energy, Roar 3rd ability, and now you hunt for eximus in the map for energy, not that it's necessary because every enemy will be dying automatically at that point. And you repeat the cycle. Eximus can be killed with your weapon of choice, and done. Easy until wave 10-12.
There are a few sucky maps, sometimes your efficiency will drop a little because of the range of your explosive 2nd ability, and use 1st ability to survive.

Oh, I should add that past Wave 7, Grineers will start to be tankier so that's when your weapon will do more than accompanying your nuking, also the reason for Corrosive Projection over something like Growing Power. You should recast your 2nd ability periodically too once you see more waves of enemies dying so you convert their drops into more explosives.
You'll also learn how to move around the bigger maps and recast your 2nd ability because of the 'limited range'. I'd say 90% of the maps are covered but there are some where you'll need to cover 'em manually. Mirage's movement is already good, but with a Praedos or Okina you can further enhance that.

The only real issue I have ran into as a F2P player is Rubedo. Everything requires a ton of it and I can't do Survival/Defense missions high enough to really print it yet.

Otherwise everything is fine. I got some starter plat from somewhere I could use for more weapon/frame slots but even without that I'd just have to scrap shitter weps when they hit 30. Some of the bosses (Jackel and Vay Hek) suck but it's not that big of a deal. The waiting would probably be annoying but I just go play something else in the meantime.

That said I am only at Heart of Deimos because I keep getting distracted doing Star Chart and shit.

For ESO, it's absolutely not necessary at all. In fact, I've done many runs without it until I got it recently. (I'm at days 465) that's why I didn't even mention it in the build.
Her 1 is enough for survivability in ESO, I don't need anything else as you can see. If I rarely get downed, Last Gasp is enough even if not using Madurai because it's not SP but a single x4x carries, and there are tons of enemies around.

Complete Star Chart (and quests) first and foremost, you're gonna end up with credits issues before anything else, so then you'll learn about Neptune and The Index. Do that for some time. Better if you get a credit booster. If not, that's alright.
A good thing to do is to create weapons that you can buy the blueprints directly from your orbiter from the marketplace. Buy those, craft 'em all. A closer look at the pistols because a lot of dual pistols actually require you to own two copies of each to be able to craft them. You'll figure it out.
A good advice too would be to invest in a good prime weapon obtained through opening relics to complete the majority of the Star Chart and Quests / Side Quests.
You can already get a decent MR with just crafting weapons you can find in the marketplace of your Orbiter, and your Clan Dojo. If you're still not in a Dojo, it is mandatory, even as a solo player. Join a Dojo with complete research done, otherwise it's a waste of time.

Khora was my main. Now she's kinda relegated to farming.
Yareli is now my main. She's fun, but slow with her not being able to bullet jump. No, I am not going to use her augment.
Octavia if I want to comfy/afk farm.
Titania if I want to speed through missions or just general usage.
Citrine is a nice one for general use too.
Koumei is probably the most fun one I've played because of her gimmick. Not for everyone.
The rest are kinda forgettable.

If I was to only recommend one, then either Titania or Citrine.

Yeah, the whole point is for it to get stronger the more missions you run and the more mods and intrinsics you get, but it's such an unfun mess that most people just give up and never bother with it again.
If your ship started out decently competent and fun then more people would be willing to stick around.
