I strongly wish XIV was more alt-friendly. At this point it is very clear they won't change the system because it makes them money to sell story skips, but I really find it very miserable that I can't easily maintain multiple characters, each focused on a specific one or two jobs, instead of the current system which is focused on making one character a jack of all trades, master of all.

The game was designed around playing multiple jobs from the very start. The reason used to be because you would take skills from other jobs and use them in your main job. Now, it's moreso a matter of having variety of roles.

I highly recommend that you unlock a second job in a different category (such as tank or healer) because you will eventually be unable to earn additional experience on your main job if it hits max. The good news is, you should always have one job ahead of others to get extra experience in the secondary roles.

You're welcome. You may notice that you have under your skills tab "Role Actions". This used to be where you would grab your cross-job skills. Best example of this was when you could only get Swiftcast (instant cast your next spell) from leveling Arcanist. This ability is practically mandatory for healers, as having to cast Raise on a dead player in combat is way too dangerous with this game's simon-says encounter design requiring constant movement being very hard to do.

There are a lot of gutted and reworked systems over the last decade. I advise you to play the beginner tutorials for at least one job all the way to the end because you get an EXP boost ring that helps low level jobs, though it's not required at all.

If you want to press more buttons it's going to be when you've reached max level. I would suggest something like Red Mage because they're very much not an optimal class but have a lot of inputs that will have you zipping around frequently. Monk used to have a lot of buttons but they gutted it. Ninja is probably your best choice for most APM as they have ninja arts that you have to input. That is probably the biggest button press job for someone like you to enjoy. I mostly play healer so for me I prefer fewer buttons and more reacting to situations. I kind of suck unfortunately lol.

As for professions, this game is made so you can do every job and role on one character. Crafting is generally expensive to do and advisable for later in the game. Gathering is not as expensive, but will eat your investory. It has its own levels, you can't really do it like WoW herbalism, you have to swap to that profession and detect the nodes to farm.

Whenever you want, really. Being overleveled on your main job is fine too, and getting your subjobs leveled up to the point where they can do MSQ instead of the main is a bit more effort. The MSQ by itself gives enough EXP to take one job all the way up to cap in proper timing, but it doesn't give so much to feed two jobs at once, which means to maintain them at that level you'll have to do some supplemental instance grind on the side.
