I do take issue with him finding the illithid colony under Moonrise. Of which is easily explained with a few seconds of thought (just now). So he found it well over two hundred years ago, back when it was still being built, which is when Ketheric still worshiped Selune. For this to work, he would have to have snuck in and investigated some hole in the ground, which you find leads to the colony (don't be an idiot, he gets in this way hundreds of years ago). Since the colony, as you read, is slumbering because they don't have control of anything, his curiosity pretty much puts him into the jaws of the illithid, and he sits down there for hundreds of years until Ansur shows up (a weakened elder brain isn't gonna fight a fully grown dragon, why not let him have something that still belongs to her).

Anon I get wanting this from a character perspective but the way the video game actually plays out this won't work. A melee character with ranged options works because you're just eldritch blasting on your way in to do your real damage. If your damage is primarily ranged, there's never a reason to be in melee aside from you majorly fucking up. Your flourishes are going to be sitting there looking pretty and almost never come up if you want your main damage to be from blasting, especially as you get higher level and start gaining mobility tools to more effectively keep you in your optimal range.

I genuinely adore honor mode, I think it's actually a pretty balanced difficulty, and I find that not being able to save scum ends up making playthroughs a lot more enjoyable, there are only really a couple events in the game I would consider giving a run up for missing.

I do have some gripes though.
Act 3 in honor mode is really really boring. You're essentially just trying to finish up your kit, because hitting the level cap happens fairly early, and there's no good reason to do much of the content, as it has minimal benefit and potential risk.
Technically speaking, there's only one mandatory boss in Act 3 outside of the final fight, being Orin. Gortash can be cheesed in so many different ways that he's almost a non-entity, and if you play Durge, you don't even have to fight him at all.

There's also a minor downside to the no save scumming in that you might end up having an idea for a fight at the last minute, but figuring out whether the mechanics will work as expected can be a crapshoot, and sometimes you just have to go the 'safe' route because you don't have the liberty of testing things. This is probably a skill issue for me, but I have found that finding information on certain interactions in the game can be tricky.

TL;DR I like honor mode but Act 3 is a glorified shopping spree and sometimes I want to improvise, but I don't want to end up replaying however many hours just to do so.

You can deal with those guys for free by being warlock, there's a dialogue option where you can convince them that there's poison or something and it doesn't require a check.
I actually recommend going in through the back, you can take out the skeleton guys more easily by looting them before they awaken.

Abusing doors and AI pathing is the number one tool in your arsenal in honor mode.
My buddy and I discovered by accident that you can clear out the entirety of moonrise by just holing up in Zrell's office.
The ideal approach at least in the times I've done it is this:
1. Take out the ghost dog and mimic in Melodia/Ketheric's area. They aren't the worst, but the mimic especially can fuck up this strategy if it wakes up
2. If you can, lock the doors in the hallway or block them off with crates. This results in the only two paths into Zrell's office being the front door or all the way through the rafters.
3. Aggro and kill Zrell
4. Just spam shit like hunger of hadar, spikes, spirit guardians, etc. right outside. My friend and I call this the blender. That office has a really good defensive layout with the shelves and just the angles in general.
5. Just chill, avoid allowing too many into the room at once

What this results in is the entirety of moonrise funneling in through either the rafters or the office door, and there are so many enemy NPCs that the AI kind of gets bricked. Most of them were stuck in the stairwell spamming their spells at nothing in particular. If shit goes wrong, you can escape via the rafters as needed. You actually want the eyes to do their thing, because having everything outside the office makes it so that the only things that will give you grief are the ghouls outside, (they have a lot of trouble pathing in, about half the length of that fight in one of our runs was just getting to the ghouls to finally finish them off, as they're technically close enough to keep combat running, but they just path up the vines and run in circles).

I shit you not, some of the worst encounters in honor mode can be trivialized by just fucking up the pathfinding.

I should have had the necromancy of thay ghouls in S tier, with the caveat that you treat them as suicide drones. Them dying is a really nasty chunk of damage. They also have this weird mechanic where re-casting the spell causes them to explode, which can situationally be a good or bad thing.

You can, I'm split between pact of the tome and chain whenever I do a 'lock.
I tend to prefer tome just because the extra spells can help you preserve your slots a bit more, but they're both very strong. For me, the main thing I factor in is whether I'm doing a sorcerer mix or not. If I'm doing pure warlock, the builtin conjure elemental is desirable.
Typically though, I do a 7/5 warlock/sorc mix. I think a lot of the 'meta' sorlock builds are ass.

Sorlock is busted. It's probably the only kit that rivals fighter/rogue cheese. You get the warlock's ability to recharge on short rest and its builtin upcasting, sorcery points give you more flexibility with your pact slots, and stuff like quickened spell buffs the already absurd eldritch gat.

As a pure warlock, you can get away with using only 2 spells in most encounters, one being a concentration, and the other being a cantrip. It's a very resource efficient class. Sorcerer just mitigates the downsides of 'lock.

I've considered playing bard, but IMO the benefits of it as opposed to other CHR casting classes aren't worth it. At least for me, bards are best as camp niggas, which incidentally buffs warlock even more. If you're so inclined/autistic, you can spec all 12 hirelings into bards, and now you have 14 short rests per long rest as opposed to 2.

You have to knock out alfira the day you cross the bridge to the goblin camp in order to have her be replaced with the dragon chick, and then you have to put off killing isobel until really late in act 2. It's an involved process, and even doing it correctly, you lose a lot of stuff in act 3 by torching last light.

Eldritch blast and hadar are two of the best spells in the game, full stop. Hadar is S tier as far as concentrations and area denial spells, with the only others that rival it being much later in the game.
Eldritch blast also plays well with hadar because you can use it to keep enemies inside the area longer.

Durge + CHR casting requires you to route the first two acts a lot, and it's easy to fuck up. Pulling it off though is amazing, you get an extra health bar as the Slayer, you get a free way to deal with Gortash, and the command kill spell makes the brain safer. I will say that I actually find orin easier to fight with her as the slayer, though I haven't tested that enough to be 100% on it.

You mainly use it to cast non-concentration buffs or utility spells.

With aid, your party's HP is increased by a good chunk
Warding bond gives you resistance to everything, at the cost of the caster taking as much damage as you do. It makes your party a lot more capable of taking damage.
There's also stuff like song of rest from bards for bonus short rests, and a lot of people who like elixirs will have a hireling specifically for brewing them. Another common use case is longstrider for extra movement.
Camp casting is a good option for reducing long rests, because in honor mode, the less you long rest the better off you are, because there are one off buffs like bliss spores or the shar stuff that reset when you do rest.

The main reason I use it is that as the game progresses, without camp casting, your options to improve holding concentration get outpaced by enemy builds. IMO in honor mode, you're in a position of either not having concentration spells be reliable whatsoever, or camp casting. I love waking up from a good night's long rest and having a big Hero's Feast with everyone in camp before heading out for the day's adventure. Some may call this camp casting but it's unironically realistic and not to mention comfy, so I'm a fan.

Technically, my all-melee composition is three melee and Shadowheart casting Bless. My all-melee dream wasn't realized until I wanted Minthara around for killing Gortash and Orin, discovering that I didn't need Shadowheart and should have put Minthara in sooner.
ANYWAY. Shadowheart has War Caster, and then the boots that help maintain concentration? They make it so you can't be proned while concentrating, if I'm remembering correctly. Regardless, she casts Bless, and then runs behind a corner. That was my answer. But I reckon the average player has more casters in their party, so War Caster being the single hurdle does sound daunting.

With honor mode, if you know the fights well enough, and look into legendary effects thoroughly ahead of time, outside of the brain, act 1 is the most perilous.

With act 2, there's not a lot of difficulty. Probably the highlights are halsin's quest, balthazar, and the myrkul fight.
The portal defense can be managed fairly consistently by obstructing the shadow creatures
You can one turn balthazar by just blowing up his office instead of fighting him anywhere else
The myrkul fight is pretty easy if you focus on the mind flayer early, and you can actually completely brick the fight by just blocking the ladders up to the platform, and preventing the necromites from reaching myrkul.
Act 2 is honestly not too bad, just requires some thought.

Act 3 doesn't even exist in honor mode, there are effectively only two mandatory fights in Orin and the brain. Gortash can be skipped or cheesed in about a dozen different ways.

It has an aoe range, and affects all allies. So you can have breakfast with everyone around you. If someone is outside the aoe, you can add that person to the party and walk them over, or just cast the feast a second time near them.

Tossing aid and hero's feast on your party before they leave camp is pretty reasonable and realistic, and the only thing youu're really saving is the spell slot if you use a camp casting drone from withers.
The thing that is sort of pushing it imo is warding bond, because that spell is supposed to be balanced around the fact that you take half the damage, and leaving the caster in camp actually circumvents a developer-intended balancing factor. But stuff like aid, hero's feast, longstrider, the only thing you're saving is the spell slot, so it's just a time saving thing.

I like to use my high level spell slots on summoning myrmidons or planar allies on the people who will be joining the party and leaving camp, and then on the people who will be staying at home today I'll use their spell slots on aid and hero's feast. The summons actually benefit from the buff spells.

But be careful with this kind of stuff, because you can accidentally make the game too easy. When your water myrmidons have like 200 hp, there are some aspects of the game that will become imbalanced. Camp casting is a little boost to help you get through tough parts of the game, but you need to use your discretion to make sure you're not getting comfortable and used to it, or reliant on it.

Usually my approach is having karlach hastened run around turn one and do setup. The biggest annoyance with myrkul is that he can break stuff on the platform, and his scythe range is just enough to knock back the ladder barricades from time to time.
I've gotten pretty decent at tard wrangling aylin, I've found that between the platform being slightly oblong and a well placed hunger of hadar, I can consistently manipulate her AI into keeping her out of the bone chill radius.
Worst case scenario is necromites sneaking up there or breaking your concentrations a bunch.

I personally like to play Honor ruleset without the "one save file" thing because the game is still bugged and some weird shit could happen, like the infamous Shar Gauntlet's elevator. What I've been doing is keeping an org file of notes whenever I play, it helps me actually remember specifics of strategies or approaches. It's gotten quite lengthy, I may need to split it up into one per act.
It's amazing how many things in this game you can completely miss, I've done dozens of playthroughs through at least act 1 at different difficulties, and I just yesterday discovered that killing ragzlin without doing the dialogue, bringing him to the underdark, and reviving him causes a bug where you still have to do the dialogue of him interrogating the mind flayer.
I also found this out by discovering that dropping a body in the myconid colony for spaw to reanimate pisses them off.

Dude, I have giga inventory and hotbar management autism. I've been coping by keeping pouches and backpacks. My achilles heel is how you can't access backpack contents mid fight unless the items are pinned, or how throwables work differently when you do nest inventories.
I hate how things don't auto-stack, or how the returning pike or its act 3 equivalent with the weird name cause your actions to change and get fucked up each time.
I really like organizing my shit and binding actions, because the less time I think about where an action in my kit is, the more time I can pay attention to combat.

Typically, I organize things based upon stuff like spell level, color (feel free to mock this one, I know I'm a sperg), and also what the action does. I like having stuff like summons and area control grouped, because it makes things easier for me to reason about on the fly.
I think the worst part is that I've gotten extremely good at doing all three at once, so I can simultaneously group things using three different methods.

If you were a bunch of level 20 demigods, you wouldn't even need any allies. You wouldn't need to strategize, gather your resources, formulate a plan against a dangerous foe, and so on. You could walk up to Orin and take the Netherstone from her like taking candy from a baby - which you can already realistically do at level 12. And if you had at least one level 20 spellcaster in your party, it'd start to make even less sense why they're not using their world-breaking magic to solve your predicament or that of a companion. A level 17 Wizard has access to Wish, Time Stop, True Polymorph, True Resurrection... you wouldn't even need Gale to fix Karlach.

For a fiend warlock durge, would it he fitting to assume Sceleritas Fel is your patron? He shows up to give you gifts, encourages you to commit evil acts, and the powers he gives you like Dark Ones Blessing directly come from killing things, which as a Butler of Bhaal, he encourages, and it works with Slayer form... which I just think is neat.

According to the BG3 Wiki, Sceleritas is a level 12 fiend with over 200hp, which seems powerful enough. Comparatively, Mizorah is also level 12, but only has 75hp.

It all seems like it would fit really well. Daddy sets you up with a powerful fiend to help nurture you to reach your full murderous potential.

Bhaal isn't an archdevil, he's a god. Evil gods are still divine beings, I doubt Fel would actually be a Fiend in terms of official lore, they're a completely different thing disconnected from the gods.
He really shouldn't even exist, because as far as I know, while gods can make avatars, give blessings, etc, its generally beyond the scope of their power to just, make a lifeform. Like they might technically be able to, but you never see it happen unless the god is like, right there. Especially for a god of murder. A MINOR god of murder, like, Bhaal sucks. I think the answer is twofold.

1. There isn't usually a reason for a god to encroach on another god's domain and try to "steal" their worshipers (unless you're the recently ascended "God of Ambition"). Moreover, Faerûn is overwhelmingly polytheistic. The common folk may pray to Chauntea for a good harvest this year, to Lathander if they've welcomed a newborn recently, to Tymora for good luck, to Selûne (or Umberlee) for safe sea travels, and so on. Every god gets their fair share of worship and all is well.

2. There are definitely gods (mostly evil ones) who do pursue a more aggressive approach in recruiting worshipers, but the thing to keep in mind is that quality of worship matters just as much as quantity. Someone like Shadowheart is definitely more valuable to Shar than some fresh convert who's just learning the tenets. Having few but zealous followers can be just as effective as trying to cast a wide net. Human nature wouldn't allow for radical change in worship in the first place, save for exceptional circumstances.

>Underdark (including some other area in that as well)
>Mountain Pass (technically Act 1 but does progress the Grove quest(s) if not completed)
You get a warning before you enter an area that progresses the map / quests in any fahsion
The "best" order in terms of level progression is written down as above, you can enter Act 2 either via the Underdark or the Mountain pass.

Restored EA cut content: reaction to the goblins in the abandoned selunite temple.
Restored EA cut content: reaction to the bug bear and the ogress in that barn (in the blighted village).
Restored Gale's compliment that he gives to Shadowheart when Tav recruits him. Tav should recruit Shadowheart before Gale. This is EA cut content too.
Fixed a bug in Minsc personal questions that caused some ... confusing order of questions. This may be the reason why most players never heard his opinions about other companions.
Minsc now doesn't shy to speak his mind about companions even if they are in the party. Also, those questions don't disappear after the first time they were picked, so Tav can question him more. Also, Minsc shares his opinion about some companions even in situations when in vanilla he refuses to do so.
Made minor edits to the waterfall date in act 1.
Changed the conditions for the "truly connect" line to appear (again, yes, I know): it appears after either party, or when the grove is locked down, or when the party reaches the creche, or when the party reaches the shadow curse. Tav has to have at least 40 approval with Shadowheart.
