I think when Dynamis opened up, lots of people joined the Submarine mafia, meaning they not only have submarines which give ~1mil gil every 36 hours, but they have *multiple* houses worth of submarines. There is a plugin that someone created to automate checking your submarines on multiple characters. And if you never unsub, that can be like 5mil per day just for logging in. And they've been doing this for years.

You are somehow neglecting to mention that simply playing the game also gets you tons of gil. Like the hair from the Chaotic raid goes for 40mil. I think all the drops from BA still go for 1mil+. I had like 150mil from only 1 year of actually playing the game before I ever even got a house.

You can do things and just be fairly new to the game or happen to play during bad times, and still have less than the people who just drop 20 bucks on RMT. If you only sub during the slower moments, then you'll miss the market rush when things are actually selling for a lot, you know? On the other hand, if you're smart about when you sub and only come back for raid patches, you can craft a ton and make some good day 1 money and then not have to think about gil for years.

Honestly if you care about gil but you have a job and a life, it's just more feasible to buy your gil from a bot. I'm considering it, because I hate crafting, hate using the marketboard, and don't want to spend 6 months leveling my subs. But I work a lot and could easily throw away 20 bucks. I don't know any reliable RMT sources, though.
