in the case of chatgpt/grok/etc's memory features, they're just like a lorebook, except as i understand it they're always on, so take up *more* context than a lorebook if some of that would be off. the special thing about them is the model sometimes skims your chats and writes a memorybook entry if it sees something notable like "owns 2 cats" or "is a painter", which maybe mildly sucks if in the other half of your chats you don't want painting or cats to be brought up. i wouldnt use it, and i wouldnt use chatgpt for RP. if you REALLY wanted to though, maybe chatgpt's "projects" folder system might be cool - work in the project, in sysprompt tell it to add important story details to the project memory for reuse in future chats. overall though modern models just have HUGE context windows and keep EVERYTHING in it so you can just slowburn for a very long time, then maybe summarize for a remake

Jesus Christ Deepseek is even more unusable than the last time I used it. It's just so retarded and its outputs are garbage. The only positive experience I had was that the dialogue and metaphors were actually pretty creative and funny. It was actually impressive. The problem was that it almost never fit the character, it kept driving conversations into weird shit I didn't want and half the time it would just deliver 5 back and forth messages between the character and me in a single message.
