A few years ago I tried to make each of my character's racial cities their home base - Ironforge for my dwarf, Thunder Bluff for my tauren, the Exodar for my draenei etc.

The biggest problem I found with having the Exodar as your base is the lack of flying. I could ignore the terrible layout of the city but the lack of flying was just a massive pain in the ass. Felt so slow going anywhere.

Also the fact that there are no portals so you just end up going to the faction capitals anyway.

It's sad because there are some great cities in WoW but there's absolutely no incentive to use them.

It is incredibly confounding just how hard they shat the bed by not using their reputations system in classic more. Everything necessary for cross-play, interplay, faction switching or faction-less play was there since day one. Just allow players to un-check "kill on sight" hostile from all the enemy factions, then through steamwheedle cartel quests allow them to earn rep with individual city states.
Since they fucked that, the second best time was coupling warmode to those individual reputations and for those not in Warmode, just unlock all reputations. Then, when logged into warmode, you pick your specific reputation. Wanna fight for Stormwind? Go do taht. Wanna fight for Thunder Bluff independence? Go nuts.
Wanna submit to Timbermaw Supremacy? Fuck yeah for the Furbolgs or whatever their warcry is. Keep the Horde and Alliance factions in name only and fully embrace that players are not beholden to their politicians, and the politicians are not beholden to the red or blue flag for eternity. Times change, but war never does and somebody's always better of leaving their old crew behind because they're just not good for you.
Instead of "everyone is friends", the plot should have been "everyone is enemies" and from that, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend until further notice" is the natural development. Players can go nuts and fight anybody and everybody, while the plot allows actual grudges and new, authentic friendships to develop.
Instead I have to suffer through teased aggravations between "leaders" who do nothing but snark at each other with empty chest-thumping and then quickly apologizing when the rough-and-tumble tumbles too roughly.

Alleria existed for 1 RTS expansion before going on a 20 year hiatus just to return at the end of Legion because they needed a Sylvanas replacement.
Sylvanas is the most developed of all the sisters, but she's the one they've intentionally written to be a back stabbing banshee and they constantly flip flop between what her character actually has to be.
Vereesa was Knaak's OC that solely existed to be Rhonin's cum dump and has been a stagnant Shandris tier character since Rhonin was killed off, repeating the same arc of, will I learn to accept Sylvanas in my heart, or hate her for the monster she is for years and years.
Upon Alleria's return, they then gave Alleria also the same exact do I hate Sylvanas or do I want my sister back plot, but ten times worse because they actively make Alleria try to undermine the second faction in the game and bring Blood Elves back into the Alliance, before fucking everything up and then doing a Jaina tier she learned her lesson off screen character arc mid time-skip.

And they should not have focused an entire expansion on it.
