Imo vanilla+ mods basically don't add anything to the game. No new items, blocks or mobs. They just add some functionality or ambience to vanilla that fits the spirit of the game. Things like Appleskin and Mousetweaks are vanilla+. You are still just playing the vanilla game but with some QOL tweaks or extra particle effects.

Bout to say, shouldn't be my GPU, at least from what I'm aware it's working fine with other games. It is a 980 ti though so it's old. Other shaders haven't had that issue with other packs or vanilla, so I guess it might just be Complementary Shaders.

It sometimes can look too busy if you have "too much" support, definitely if there is no distinction between the pillars and the arches themselves. I would personally detail the arches more, but remove the supports in the middle of the arches...If that makes sense.

I was playing a shitload of vintage story before coming back to minecraft so it's been difficult to adjust in some ways to not have details I would otherwise. I did get the chisels and bits mod but I haven't fucked with it yet. I think the create copycats will do a good job as framing though.

They want servers and users that make money to pay a license fee to use the mod. They use telemetry to create UUIDs for their users in order to figure out who's doing what with the mod, and when they need to renew their license, commercial or otherwise. They also have a turbo-corpo EULA that includes binding arbitration, single-instance operation restrictions, and the right to modify the EULA and other agreements unilaterally without informing their customers. You're also not allowed to modify any jars of the mod in any capacity.
I would never recommend anyone use the mod due to how shady they are, and if you play on Pathserb, you can safely remove it without issue since it's client-side.

Like you say, nothing except the EULA will stop you, and I doubt they would ever try to enforce it. I've seen people simply block their domain on the OS level and it works fine. I just find it ridiculous how much they try to cover their asses and claim power over the customers for such a basic bitch mod when you have stuff like Create just sharing their mod and source with everyone and not doing shady telemetry or begging for people to buy licenses. I also don't think the mod is worth using in the first place when worldedit exists for free.

I'm trying cuboid outpost (the first one) but it's pretty stupid. It was okay for like the first day but afterward it's just "make shit to make shit" and too easy overall.

Maybe if I wanted to treat it like a building pack and have a sprawling outpost with resource generation compartmentalized into their own domes then have a thematic area around it for aesthetics (like a sprawling garden with a greenhouse in the center) it could be better, but it's well beyond my capabilities. By the time I had resources to start building with anything more than cellulose, I didn't want to move things.

At some point I'll try cuboid outpost luxury edition to see what's changed but I don't have high hopes, it's probably just a carbon copy brought to nu(er)versions.

so far I've got Ancient Warfare for building my settlement from the ground up and CQR for human(ish) factions, what mods can I add in to have some hostile humans? I am already have Raids backport installed for extra villager contents, for humans I am thinking of using Custom Npcs and have some bandit npcs that spawn naturally at night or minecolonies for some custom town creation.

I was searching for a modded backpack that could act like an item magnet so I wouldn't have to clear my inventory from garbage every five minutes when I'm outside the house, and Brad's Backpacks allows exactly that. Iron's has a Magnet upgrade that does the same thing, but I ultimately went for Brad's because it lets you control Auto-Collector via keybind. Textures are awful and it has a bit of a learning curve, but other than that it's advanced, customizable, and does exactly what I want. Another neat feature is that you can retrieve lost backpacks with a special item, so if you don't want to deal with modded enchantments for Soulbound (understandable), it got you covered.

The current version of better combat will change your cursor red if its going to swing at an enemy with an axe, you have to be looking at an enemy for it to change red.

there's not much by way of enchanting specifically, further than just higher level caps
The thing that makes apoth fucking broken is a feature of its enchantment library
on the surface, its something that lets you point sell/buy your enchants instead of having 30 double chests of misc books

The secret that makes it gunk is that it works as a free anvil too. When you take out a book, you can leave the book in the slot and take out another enchant, adding it onto the book
There is no limit to this, and this is a 100% intended feature to uber enchant yourself a rectal resizer

if this is not to your tastes, you can just not use that feature and simply use the library as a storage bin

It's not that bad in the latest versions. Balancing the 3 enchanting stats is somewhat interesting, and activating later tier bookshelves by enchanting them is not bad.
The second and third stats generally have an upper and lower limit for enchanting bookshelves and other non-equipment items, so there is a good incentive to either make multiple enchanting setups or make something way to easily transform enchanting setups.
Balance obviously goes out the window, but it's modded so you can adjust balance yourself in a pack.

I want a mod that will give me a soft world border in singleplayer. Like not actually prevent me from going beyond it, but display it, or display a border line, or give a chat warning when I pass it. Just so I can gradually explore and build outwards in a mostly even way without constantly looking at a coords overlay, by just expanding the boundary whenever I'm done with the whole area inside.

Yeah that's exactly my issue with this as well, the first time it was fine but I wasn't expecting to repeat this so many times. The worst is the Witch's Cauldron from a mod called Enchanted, you have to throw the items (which sometimes it doesn't even instantly get it so it might get the first ingredient wrong) in the right order or else you're screwed and you lose the ingredients. It's all crafting tables but different just because.

Other mods have had explosives too, of course. In nuversions thermal has a couple, tinker's had the EFLN which had a big area and only broke blocks, not destroying item entities.
So maybe the mod could just be a complete nonsensical techmod that involves harvesting, exploiting, mutating, and processing creepers into different tools and devices.

Geolosys, Silent's Gems, and basically any tech mod. Tinker's Construct adds some metals and alloys you can make tools and weapons with (Tinker's Armory for armor) and TFC has mining and metal tiers tightly ingrained into progression. Ferromancy is a modpack that promises a lot of mining, you can look into that as well (I haven't played it).

Structure gen mods so there's actually a reason to go anywhere. Or come play on pathserb, we've got bases and custom biomes scattered tens of thousands of blocks around. Travel by train, boat, plane or by road on a horse. Plenty of stuff to find and plenty of places no one has ever been before. No elytra and no nether travel either.

My problem with this idea is that the minecraft world being a random mishmash of biomes (garbage), you'll either get screwed by RNG or the thing you're looking for is 3 blocks over anyway.

I don't think it's possible with the kind of worldgen that minecraft has. You'd either need a proper world built by a human being or at least add a lot of restrictions to the procedural generation.

I know they are heavily scripted and organized but it's still cool to see emergent roleplay in ANY context. No. The only useful way to utilize trains is roleplay and deliberately saying "Fuck everything else, I'm going to use trains."
Even if a pack had progression and tried to make trains your main source of long distance movement of resources (by having ginormous biomes, with only 1 giant resource node per biome), you'd STILL try to minimize the amount of trains you use by finding the densest area of different nodes and centralizing your base there.
And you'd probably still cheap out on the train and station designs.
And probably complain about how much exploring you have to do and how much work it is to run the train lines.

Big 2 hour journey exploring some of the far-flung custom places on pathserb. This stone spire reminds me so much of the starting area of Shadow of the Colossus. Some of us have been playing modded for years, throwing shit in a folder is nowhere near as amusing as it used to be. I want an experience akin to a good game, one that's fun, unique, well-thought-out, and balanced. You can't achieve this with a run-of-the-mill TOYMY, it requires actual effort. NTA but I hate mods that do this, they do nothing more than to spam useless(and most of the time unstackable), blueprints everywhere on all loot chests and doesn't even solve the problem in the first place, there's always a best tool to make and once you get that blueprint all others are useless

A better system to add difficulty would be one where you start from a common base tool and don't have control of the upgrades, at least not full one, for example when upgrading you get a choice between 3 attributes to put and you have to choose one unless you want to waste your upgrade slot, that would ensure no tool is identical, that getting a tool that "just works" is easy and that getting a tool that's godly tier is going to actually be a huge project, all 3 birds with one stone

You can use Create to have a gigantic moving base if you're smart about it and don't move the whole structure always at the same time
If you want a giant moving floating island that also lets you build a base with every block functioning like they would in the ground you probably want valkyrien skies but it's more of a tech demo than a proper mod intended for gameplay so don't expect to handle whole factories moving

It does more than just that, but if you mean "it doesn't turn the structure into an entity during relocation", then that's correct. You select the desired distance you want your structure to be "teleported" to and the angle it should be facing in a GUI, then hit Jump. This method differs from the mods other anons have suggested, but is more reliable because entities are known to be unstable, lag-inducing, and generally a nightmare to deal with. I've tried Ships, Valkyrien Skies, and Valkyrien Warfare, and they felt like proofs of concept more than anything. My structures constantly got stuck, brought my tickrate to a crawl, didn't accept blocks from certain mods, and just flatout dissapeared. You don't want such a bug-ridden mess to be in charge of your entire base.

tried to go back to an older world and I'm still stuck on the same thing, trying to figure out how to add the next building and lay it out.
i think my problem is that I've got an intersection that's aligned to the entrance of another building, but that's all it is aligned to. I can't manage to make other paths out of that intersection align with other buildings. Even the existing non-building paths kind of look like shit around it.

The mod requires you to get magnets before you can make the proper rotor. I made the induction rotor, but it doesn't appear to actually be generating any power.
Then I tried potato batteries, but they don't appear to have enough power to actually electrify the required 8 iron ingots for a single functional rotor made of two rotor blocks.

Potato batteries are only really useful for powering circuits. Getting any meaningful amount of power from them makes them cook. I suppose you can try powering the commutator with actual batteries. Might need to step up the voltage with a transformer first.

The mod's mechanics are based on real physics, so it helps to know a little. You only have one rotor which cannot power a Magnetizer, so i'm using the power from that generator, to power the commutator of the induction generator to get more power. The transformer is to increase the voltage of the induction generator. (Applying more power to the commutator increases the power of the induction generator)

You're shorting out your generator with the wires between the gauge's probes. The voltage gauge needs to be in parallel, and the amperage gauge needs to be in series.

considering your issue is not getting enough voltage, the generator housing is kind of screwing you over.
the generator housing puts all the winding in parallel, giving you the lowest voltage of the connected windings.
if instead you just wired the winding in series, positive to negative, three windings like this would give about 45 volts, enough to run a magnetizer.

I think it's almost as bad as vertical chunks, it's such an intrinsic part of minecraft and so many things make assumptions about it that it's hard to mod.
AFAIK all the light sources that reach beyond glowstone-15 do it with fake sources (TC arcane lamp, feral flare, IE floodlights)

I say it because I have made far more light update causing redstone systems and those would be completely impossible, and your state saving method is completely incompatible with skipping ticks, you're absolutely going to save the wrong state, and that's going to happen every time a structure decoration or worldgen happens

every chunk still needs to run the regular light checker for 16 instead of build height blocks, so you're increasing the complexity by 16*16*16/(build height)*(n of vertical chunks), assuming you want a reasonably big n(otherwise what's the point) the game's going to freeze every time a village generates

You can actually try this experimentally; try putting a n*16 instaredstone (you can use structure blocks and change the world border to make them automaticaly) line in any direction going from a corner to another corner of your render distance R and make any reasonable flash with them, that line is just the radius of the loaded circle you're going to get when you have vertical chunks, so you're going to have R^2*pi more checks (and lag won't increase linearly)

I would go for it if you remember the basics of electronics, like Ohm's law and parallel vs sequential circuits.
From the little testing I've done it seems like a very well made electrical grid simulation, down to the power losses from wires, which would allow for stuff like stepping up to ultra high voltages to transport power over longer distances.
Just remember to use fuses so things don't explode the moment you misplace a wire.
