I've always been irked by how weird MDM's list. According to this, there are no tier 2 decks in the meta, and only the tier 1 decks are relevant by a large degree. But if you play the game, that's not exactly true. Plus the way he presents it makes it seem like the gap between say Maliss and the supposed tier 3 decks in insurmountable, when that's not the case at all. In the actual meta, Tenpai Sky Striker is a direct counter to Ryzeal, which is a direct counter to Maliss. And Maliss countering Tenpai. With BEWD being nerfed by Ryzeal, but being strong against Maliss, and Branded being the exact opposite of that.

However this list doesn't reflect that at all. It just makes it seem like Maliss is the defacto strongest deck, and everyone else is struggling to keep up.

Finally finished and played Malice and it’s pretty hard to play. I think I just hate decks that are too restrictive in their playstyle, it reminds me of Snake Eyes in that sense where YOU NEED to follow the one line or your board loses a ton of interactions. I have a better time on Tears and Branded due to being more free form, but Tears is supposed to be harder than Malice so I don’t fucking get it. Maybe it’s a mental lock because of being forced into a single line, I don’t know, maybe I’m seeing too much into it.
Anyway as usual, Malice is fun to play but not as fun to play into. Not impossible to beat so there’s that.
Ryzeal has been…okay? Obviously it’s very hard whenever I want to play a deck that wants the continuous or a field spell but Tears was great into it. Lab worked a bit but I maxed on Kaiju and ball. Branded was fine. Unchained also pretty damn good going second into Ryzeal.

Their gameplan is to setup zebufera and followed rhythm + whatever else they can or use duralume to board break + OTK.
Zebufera has a very high winrate on summon but the issue is getting there, they dont have any 1 card combo, lots of combinations of 2 engine cards arent even a combo either, and they die to basically any interaction.

Varar is not a good card because the deck is extremely starved for extra deck slots and the link 1s will almost always do what varar tries to do better.

Altergeist is a trap-focused control deck that I'm really unfamiliar with
You can't really escape summoning or tutoring a bunch of times unless you're playing full stun

For more backrow control focused decks check out, in no particular order:
Traptrix, Vaalmonica, Argostars, Weather Painter, Dinomorphia, Nemrelia (maybe? I'm pretty sure nemrelia is some form of backrow control), Dogmatika, several others that I can't think of from the top of my head

for a tribute consider Qlifort (don't waste resources on qli unless you already have a good deck or two), Floowandereeze (though it's under the mask of being called normal summoning, this deck is just a special summon fest and only technically counts as a tribute archetype), and the egyptian gods (they suck too)
