Blade bard 10 + crown paladin 2 is gonna be an excellent martial combatant.
And lore bard 10 + any warlock 2 is a great ranged blaster. Also this one can a good healer if you pick Warden of Vitality spell as level 6. Though healing is not very valuable in this game, so don't make it your priority.

Halsin has a camp scene where he has an exclamation point over his head for a conversation, in which he proposes having sex with you, and tells you to ask your romanced partner if that's ok. If you simply tell her what Halsin said, Shart will tell you to tell her all the details, and that she will find her own fun while you're with Halsin.

I very often see people say stuff like "well if you don't go to the brothel..." or "well if you don't flirt with Halsin..." and such things, but that's unfortunately not the way the character is written. She responds positively to Halsin's camp scene even if you never go to the brothel, and if you even so much as ask her if she's interested in a threesome, she reveals that she's already been daydreaming of it many times before you asked. Enjoying polyamory, and even daydreaming of having sex with Halsin many times while in a relationship with you before you bring up polyamory, is just how the character is written.

This is why there are schizos here who lie about the scenes, or even lie about me to slander me. It's because the tried and true old Sharty response was to say to just avoid the brothel, but after that examined and found to be false, they don't have anything left, so now it's just slander against the people who conducted these experiments and found the truth.
Instead of incorporating new information into their opinion of the character and adjusting their views accordingly, instead they have already decided they like the character and that cannot change, so they just lie and attack people who simply bring up facts about the game. It's strange. You can post videos of the scenes in question and they still just lash out.

They kind of do desu. Tavern Brawler gives them a lot more options, and with the game having more verticality, it opens up a lot of options for different combat encounters. Whenever I fight grim, I just have my party up above the platform shooting arrows at the levers and stuff, and karlach can usually kill grym with the pike in about 4 turns, no hammer.

Extremely, and the game gives you a ring of flinging in the grove, and the returning pike from the goblin shop at the camp. Tavern brawler also is nice because it makes your barbarian able to rearrange the enemy characters almost, I use it partly to keep people at a distance from my spellcasters, like a bouncer.
Karlach is able to just manhandle the little shits, it makes killing minthara really easy, because you can just have her run around and throw them off the edge in that area.

As a side note, the returning pike can be buggy as hell, my rules with it are that I never use it from outside of combat, (I always keep other shit to huck), and you want to wait after each throw for it to come back. Nothing is more annoying than having the returning pike not return.
Also, throwables in really rare circumstances can actually prevent you from getting XP

Athlete is a generically good feat on most martials, but especially shines on Monks, since it allows them to abuse Step of the Wind.
Elemental Adept is a must for casters who specialize in one type of damage.
GWM/Sharpshooter/Savage Attacker are numerical upgrades - boring, but effective.
Heavy Armor Master is underrated, and turns your Warding Bond caster into a damage sponge.
Lucky is generally good, but also tedious.
Skilled is just not good. Rogue 1 dip if you need Expertise in one skill that matters.

Once you get the barbarian extra attack, you can kill two goblins a turn with her just by beating them to death with each other like a rabid chimpanzee, it's incredible.

In act 1, anything smallish is fair game. Hill Giant elixirs give her enough juice to handle a lot of the lighter humanoid enemies, though they can be a bit sparse there. Act 2 gives you that bull armor which gives her more throwing potential. Act 3 has those gloves in the house of hope.
It's worth noting that at least from what I've observed, the weight requirements for throw vs. improvised melee weapon vs. shove can be different, so there's a bit of granularity there.
Generally, toward the latter half of the game, the stuff you can and can't throw makes enough sense that you can just eyeball it.

Pure barbarian does actually suck, but the house rules and map design with tavern brawler give it a fair bit to do. The throwable damage from the pike or Nyrulna later on actually scales very well later into the game, having a character who can take hits and give your casters some distance is really nice.
Also, I just find karlach really enjoyable to have along, she feels distinct from a lot of the other companions.

Barbarian is fun, especially the giant barbarian focused on throwing. You can gear him up to freeze enemies with certain pieces of gear and create ice surfaces under them so he becomes basically Sub-Zero. Karlach is perfect for a giant barb role, i wouldn't make MC one because they are still very boring in terms of leveling up compared to other classes, but mechanically they are supremely fun.

My main gripe is how heavily downgraded the mages feel like. A battle between two wizards in BG2 even in the early game actually feels like a magic battle, with chains of different protection spells and counterspells, absolute chaos on the battlefield via waves of summons or teleport fields, the game also greatly rewards you for knowing ins and outs of the mechanics so a skilled mage is a force to be reckoned with.

In BG3 the casters are so gigacucked in comparison a Battle Master and a Barb feel like they have more battlefield control.

The problem is that unless the scene is orphaned by your avatar dying/being downed/being out of range when the cutscene starts (which would be really fucking weird to do for your romance's big scene) and Minthara (who requires skipping a big story beat, going through the trouble of knocking her out, or doing something that's straight up evil to recruit) or evil path Shadowheart (who you would probably need to convince to become evil unless you ignored her the whole game) helps him, you have to actively aid him in the ridiculously evil act of sacrificing children's souls so he can even ascend. After he ascends, there is a scene where he acts controlling towards you, says he wants to make you his spawn, and has a detect thoughts check that shows that he thinks you'd be degrading yourself by continuing to be with him. If, after doing all this and not breaking up with him, a character would somehow be surprised and scared by ascended Astarion acting the way he does, they would be fucking retarded. If ascending wasn't so insanely evil, you didn't have to actively participate and could ascend Astarion by fucking up in dialogue, and/or you were just turned into a spawn with no option to break up with him in the aftermath scene, then it would make more sense, but as is it feels like "Oh no, my vampire boyfriend who I actively helped perform an evil ritual to make him more powerful and agreed to become the slave of is evil and controlling towards me? phew, finally beat the game.

yeah, for my second game in the genre after DA Origins its a pretty fucking good CRPG, it quite hit the spot that Origins did a while ago, its just a really good GAME man.
i will say, not a fan of the entire dice thing, did reload save alot of times because didn't want to accept the game just refused to make my skills connect but sure, taking that aside its just a plain fun, highly interactive, beautiful game with great characters to be fond of, no wonder its one of the big hits of recent years.
