Legion's perception was carried hard by everything that wasn't the gameplay itself.
It wasn't WoD so people automatically rate it higher than deserved.
It gave us fanservice bait like Ashbringer and other artifacts, Illidan and demon hunters, easy wins.
Ecelebs were very active and experienced a massive popularity boom so they sung the game's praises and all their followers parroted what they said.
Meanwhile the gameplay was terrible, classes played like shit and the game was filled with timewasting systems to milk MAU numbers, a structure that BfA and Shadowlands followed before they finally stopped in Dragonflight because that structure was genuinely killing the game.

It's the opposite of Dragonflight, where outside perspective is bad because ecelebs and all the gayness while the gameplay and classes were very good, the best they'd been in a very long time.

If you cannot defeat Kyveza, do not bother showing up to raid. This boss is a baseline mechanics check. If you cannot handle mechanics while maintaining a strong DPS or HPS rotation, you will only drag the group down on the harder fights ahead.

This is not optional. This is not "just a warm-up boss." This is the fight that tells us whether you can balance your gameplay fundamentals aka: awareness, movement, uptime, and performance but all at once. If you fail here, you will fail later.

If you can't be bothered to put in the hours to grind this fight, you are disrespecting the other 26 players on this roster who are putting in the work. This is a preparatory fight for a multi-week raid, and it requires commitment. If you can't commit now, you won't commit later.

You all said you wanted to improve as a raid and get a better ranking. That doesn't start with someone else carrying you, it starts with you improving your own gameplay. If you can't do that, you're dead weight. And yes, I'm talking to you, you slug.

And before anyone even thinks about saying, "my class isn't designed for this encounter" fucking save it. It's really telling that all the cross-media stuff died off once Metzen both got way busier with the other Blizzard properties and especially once he left. WoW used to have comics and even a manga running concurrently, RPG tie-in books, board games, the movie getting kicked around for years, multiple story books an expansion, etc.
After he left it all died except for the Exploring and Chronicle books, which tried to tie more into the games but just became retconfests with confusing changes.
