But with the release of the Nintendo Switch, they re-appropriated those assets into SNK Heroines.

Max isn't wrong though, MotW IS a cult classic in America. It was third place behind 3S and KoF98 for the longest time on Fightcade rooms, just ahead of SSF2T.

Terry, Vanessa, and Ralf was bullshit and dominating KOF 15 for over a year. After that, Kula, Krohnen, and B Jenet. SNK just doesn't know how to balance their games. The characters also don't have any real individuality themselves like in other Fighting Games(like how JP or Ed in SF6 are), which is why people always just flock to whichever character uses less resources and does the most damage. The system mechanics matter more than anything. Which is why you never see any character specialists in SNK games.

I don't see people mention it as much, but current SNK stuff just doesn't look very cool and makes anyone go "WOW" like in the past. KOF 14 and 15 are not only ugly, but are severely uncool and bland in presentation. 15 especially. Samsho while I think is the ugliest modern SNK game, does have an interesting presentation. You can really see the low-budget in it with how power-point tier it seems, but it's an attempt. COTW has been the most SNK has tried to put some personality in their modern stuff, yet it just mostly falls flat. The Main-Menu is going for a comic-book look but doesn't hit, the climax/cinematic supers which all but like 3 have no real impact and feel flat, stuff like the character-select screen in pic-related looking place-holder tier and messy, and more. It's like they were trying to ape Fatal Fury 3 and Dominated Mind's CC screens, but missed the mark entirely.

I know I'm probably gonna be labeled as a Capkuck for saying this, but SF6's Character-Select is a big example of something that has great presentation, is cool, and full of personality. If you were to ask people which CC Screen they thought were more cool, 95% would say SF6. It's even more appropriate to bring up SF6, because it has 2 SNK characters which I believe has the best showing of personality and coolness SNK properties have had in years. Mai in casual-clothing chilling on a chair(which went viral) and Terry playing on a Neo-Geo cabinet are cool, and feels like something old SNK would have likely done. Even their Supers are some of the best-looking Terry and Mai have had.

KOF 15's presentation is so bland. It felt like they were trying to go for something sleek, atmospheric, and kinda futuristic, but it's just boring to look at. Look at the Main Menu for instance. The KOF emblem in a dark-room with a spot-light shining on it is a tiny bit of a cool visual I guess, but it doesn't do anything for me. The lack of music which I'm guessing is for atmospheric reasons to accompany said visuals also doesn't really tickle my taint. KOF needs teammates in the background again among a lot of other things to achieve peak coolness again. It was unique. I can get that they can't put every team as part of the main plot, but they could at least make it a revolving turn. After the Orochi Saga we always see the same teams being shoe horned into the main plot of the saga: Kyo, Iori and Chizuru with anything involving Orochi, the Ikari team who are basically KOF's SHIELD and the Agents and K' teams, who works alongside Ikari making them just an extension of the Ikari team.
However in the current New Age saga we get FF team becoming relevant to the main team and plot which is a breath of fresh air. But we still see Ikari and it's two adjacent teams (k' team and Agents team) still hogging the main story spotlight.
It would be better if it was just Ikari team doing the investigation of the current KoF plot and let other teams that haven't been in the main plot get their chance to shine like Kyokugen, Women's team, Kim's team, Athena's team etc. That's how it should have been to keep things fresh. But SNK are too dumb to write a compelling story that are new that's why they keep putting the usual suspects to gatekeep the plot.

Yeah, if its out that the organizer is a bad guy with evil intentions, then most of the 'good guys' will just team up instead of fighting each other, specially when it's a high stake end-of-the-world evil plot.
The KoF tournament could only work if it's just a low stake plot like revenge. That's why it worked well for FF, AoF and KoF94/95, since its a simple narrative. So the other fighters can be only there for the prize money or getting fame.
But if it becomes a world threat, it breaks the suspension of disbelief that a noble/non villainous fighters will only fight for their own interest and not helping each other to save the world.

Personally, I'd go for something that's a mix of SFA3 World Tour or KI's Shadow Lords and the bonus disc for Dominated Mind where you talk with the characters.
CoTW is an OK start.

Terry and Mai are so much fucking better in about every conceivable way in SF6 than they are in KOF 14,15, and COTW that it's insane. COTW being especially worse seeing as it's a game from their own franchise. The only thing that you could say is worse is Terry's ugly-ass face, and their music not being as good. Other than those, 99.9% of everything else are OBJECTIVELY superior. Their animations are better, their Supers are TREMENDOUSLY better, they're full of personality with things like Terry throwing off his jacket like in MOTW(that he doesn't do in COTW) and Mai having a taunt where she sings, their Character-Select idles as talked about before, and more. They even have more costumes in SF6. They're so much better that it actually makes me mad. At SNK, that is. I'd rather Terry and Mai be side characters in games that actually implement them well, than side characters in KoF where they're treated like jokes compared to whatever chunni-of-the-arc protagonist team we have.

Terry and Mai (and really the entire Fatal Fury cast) both ironically enough fit in more with the Street Fighter cast than they do with the KoF cast.

How come some shit on COTW and KOF 15(or any past 2002) for being EX cancel into EX Cancel into Super, but cooms over SF6 with every interaction being low-forward into Slime, light light light slime light medium slime heavy heavy special super, and often just raw slime? I just watched SF6(mostly to see the Mai and Terry matches), and that's how about all them played out. Hell, one interaction in GF there was literally about 4 Drive-Rushes in a span of 3 seconds. Apparently that's about the most fun and spectacular gameplay though going by SF6's player-count, and it's sales so far.
