Ok, hang on, this is actually a pretty good experiment for once.

People always use No-Banlist to "prove" how overpowered Tear is, but it always uses cards it never had access to when it was top tier like Graceful Charity and Painful Choice, which obviously push it WAY over the top. But if Tear is forced to use the cards it actually played during its peak, AND it lost to VSK9, then that tells us that the metagame has powercreeped to level that's FINALLY comparable to IshizuTear.

Which means, you actually COULD have serious discussions about unbanning/unlimiting several Tear cards, as it really wouldn't impact the meta all that much.

Kitkallos could probably come off and you could put all the names to 3, and it'd honestly be fine then.

Same for Master Duel. Merrli and Perlereino can come off, and you can give the deck its consistency back bu unlimiting Scheiren, Havnis, and Sulliek.

I actually wanna see people try that.
Just host a tournament with the current meta, but full power Ishizu-less Tear is allowed, see how well it does.

The power level of Tear's turn 0 plays relative to Dracotail or VSK9 is really hard to compare when potentially autowin floodgates are a factor in the discussion. Resolving a Rulk/Kaleido/Dragostapelia turn 0 is more than reasonable in 2025.

vsk9 is incredibly strong but it's not as consistent as ishizu tear was at its peak

I feel that falls in line with more Tier 1.5, Tier 2 like you're saying. At the very least, it means there's a chance Master Duel (and maybe the OCG) can start unbanning Tear cards around a year from now or something. MD has an overall higher PL, and it likes keeping decks playable, and Tears are extremely popular, so fingers crossed I hope.

Mismatched main deck name ratios feel both dogshit to play and feels like sacky garbage to play against. I agree.
In our testgroup we had 2 good Tear pilots, 3 mediocre ones, and 1 Lithium-tier one. We had 1 godlike K9VS player and 3 good ones. 3 good Yummy pilots and 3 mediocre ones. 2 extremely autistic Maliss players, and 4 mediocre ones; this was probably the least tested matchup because the good Maliss players left early in the evening. Everyone picked up Dracotail easily enough and everyone had some experience with Ryzeal.

In hindsight we should've written more down and did more research method control because a lot of it was vibes-based, but I stayed up until 4AM playing Tear vs K9VS and it was some of the best YGO I've ever played.

We almost got it. Crow's favorite card is D.D. Crow, something completely unrelated to blackwings. A fair bit of Yusei's maindeck is just random pack filler like sonic chick or unicyclur. It's just the extra deck and his matching junk/stardust support that messes with the vibe. In a parallel timeline they started with a much more vague theme to their decks and the archetypes were added and built up over time as they got more cards. It would have given the series that old playground yugioh feel from back in the day when your deck was just whatever you had on hand and new cards would be moved in and out as you got them.

Also in Team Satisfaction flashbacks we only see small snippets of their decks but at the time their presumably best monsters were some of their worse ones like Mad Archfiend for Jack. It's not implied that Jack is using the EXACT same deck in the main series, he probably reworked a lot of it after moving to the city.
Also Yusei's deck is actually rather terrible as individual cards go, it only starts coming together IRL when he gets cards like Quickdraw Synchron and Junk Archer which were pretty deep in the Dark Signer arc. Of the "core" Synchrons they were notoriously bad at making their corresponding Warrior where even if Nitro and Turbo are good you could imagine they'd be thrown out for their summoning method being ass.

Something like Archfiend Eccentrick IS a generic Scale and a generic tool, but it falls flat when its a do-nothing scale that actively asks you to go even at a slow-speed to out a Spell/Trap.

What could've been flashier than dueling Playmaker as the debut duel (even if it ended interrupted or a tie)? While the stale as hell stinky slapdash Hydradrives were never printed. Pendulum summons suck not just because of all the restrictions, bricks, and minuses, but because there's no POINT. With the other summoning mechanics, you need to do them to summon certain monsters. Their needs to be some unique selling point to pend summons, and it needs to be busted as hell to be worth the effort.

This cool card might have a place in the deck considering how grindy it is and gives you a resource loop. It might let you get away with fewer main deck names to make room for alternate engines since Tune itself feels like it really wants to be an engine rather than a main strategy. I massively disagree. The concept of a new MR won't inherently kill the game, provided they don't do something retarded like make a new card type MORE generic and MORE powerful than Links.
An MR focused on trying to rein in the OTK issue that plagues the game would probably be the best bet for a saving of the game. Everything wrong with the game boils down to easily accessible OTK potential as the root problem. There are many ways to handle this concept, each with their own pros and cons, some examples being:

These are all terrible ideas. Duels already take long as fuck as it is. Now imagine if you had to drag things out for multiple turns now.

What you need to do is dial back the number of actions per turn, but the only way to do that, is to print less effects per card, which literally never happening as a deck like that would be significantly weaker.

Like, take a moment to count the number of actions players took over a whole game back in 2004, then 2013, 2020, and compare it to now. The total number of things players do in a single game has gone up significantly overall. Forcibly increasing the number of turns players engage in a duel, will pretty much cause a single duel to take like an hour, when the sweet spot for a duel should be between 5-10 minutes.

I get the sentiment behind the idea.

I had an idea a while back, though I never play tested it properly, but the idea was to essentially speed up the game even more by having both players fully share the turn. Essentially, they get 1 action each back and forth back and forth. The Main Phase is merged into a single one, and "Battle Phase" becomes more of an action you can do multiple times per turn per monster.

Quick effects and such would work as full interruptions that start a chain. That and automatic triggers would be the only way to do multiple actions at a time.

The few times it did happen back then, it was very specific hands and very specific setups.
Games had a lot more back and forth, each turn you continued to live is another top deck that could potentially swing the game in your favor once more. The OTK-centric nature of the modern game removes that aspect entirely, now your opening hand might just be the ONLY cards you get to see, so those cards better fetch half your deck and output a billion damage because if you don't, your opponent will.

Each player can only use X total actions per turn, where X is the turn count. Actions include: activating a card or effect, Normal or Special Summoning a monster, Setting a card.
Sounds initially shit, but the small incremental turns allows each player to draw a lot more cards, creating scenarios where "the out" is a lot more present whilst still maintaining the more complex and intricate deck concepts.
Traps under this concept would become more prevalent since you now have the expectation of actually seeing your Traps go off.
Of course, this just sounds like a totally different game so that's why I'd test the gameplay out via an alt format or via test groups before making any big sweeping decisions like this as an MR

Kashtira Fenrir for example has a Trigger Effect that can be used on the opponent's turn despite not being a Quick Effect. When these types of Triggers are met, they occur on the chain after the thing took place.
