However I intentionally didn't take more people with me on a trip to cumrag in order to not break something. I think nothing should break actually, since all those companions end up in unique locations, but I decided to just not risk it

Mix of crpg and strategy game they were doing was great. It really annoys me how dumbed down RT is in this regard. Kingmaker felt more like being a RT than RT does, with you actually colonizing world and building cities where you want and how you want. Passage of time was great too and is severely missing here

Honestly it's not even the management that bothers me with PoE. Being made a minor lord or somehow being given land to manage? Perfectly fine.

It's the 'Watcher' stuff attached to it.

It's one of the reasons I love early to mid game PF: Kingmaker. Just you and your companions venturing out in to the hinterlands and the unknown while carving out a little land for yourself.

No need for any type of 'chosen one' stuff to be attatched to it.

And yeah despite technically being a 'chosen one' in BGI that really doesn't have any bearing on your adventure or the themes and feel of the game. You're a Bhaalspawn, yes. But you're one of many and are given no special consideration because of it.

Bannerking, and it's submod, add a lot of autistic and indepth features like different tiers of vassalage, religion, education, expanded mercenary career, spearmanii style names to everything, splits kingdoms and cultures into a lot of minor ones, adds AI lords using companions who can rise to nobility just like you and expands pretty much everything you can think of. It's even autistic to install since you need to downgrade your game to an older version and then find and install particular, older versions, of few different mods it requires to run and then of course sort them in correct order in launcher.
It slows down game progression significantly overall as well so you can't just instantly conquer world and every city. Makes combat more realistic as well while making armor far stronger which makes it even harder to take on Lords and cities with their elite and more numerous troops now while you have shitters in your army.

I failed the tech use check to press the button to turn the armilary sphere on, to start the puzzle. Jae and Pasqal both have 100 tech use skill, so it's lame that everyone can't try once each. Or it's lame that you can't keep trying, since there's no stress or distractions or time limit here. The very best mechanic in any rpg system is the "take 10" and "take 20" mechanics. If there is no time limit or distractions, a player may elect to spend 10 minutes to take 10, or 20 minutes to take 20, on a dice roll instead of rolling. I don't know why every game developer forgets this rule exists. It would solve feelsbad moments like this where you fail some random check that there's no logical reason you couldn't re-try, and it arbitrarily bars you from doing something fun like a puzzle. And the extra dumb thing for this game in particular is that some checks do allow you to retry. I've sat there clicking some of the athletics checks 5 times until I got it. So it's just arbitrary. Well, my JA3 ironman playthrough finally hit the brick wall recently. Just a few little errors of judgment and some unfortunate mis-clicks and UI mishaps on my part sealed the fate of Grand Chien and about 12 good mercs. Well, some not so good.
I'm already replaying and have taken Ernie island but I won't post about it, maybe again when I get as far as I was.

Very enjoyable game, I'd say. More on the tactical/combat side of CRPG but there's still quite a good amount of choices and consequences, plenty of banter, things like certain mercs developing like/dislike of each other or won't work or prefer to work with someone. How you deal with a situation might come up later, etc.
Someone many threads ago brought up the "reddit goofiness", I also thought that was a major thing before I played. I think it was bad trailers or promotional material. It's much less goofy than say, Wasteland 3 for instance. It's got its moments for sure but not a defining quality even, imo.
It's a shame that it doesn't seem to have done better, I'd love a follow-up that expands on what it did well and improves what it's lacking. Looking forward to hopefully seeing it through to the end this time. There are a variety of difficulty settings of course if you don't prefer to play scarce resource/wounds/ironman. The ironman mode is more a 'single save' so if you TPK in combat you can reload when you enter combat, but sometimes you might be facing something unwinnable if you burst in like a dum-dum.

I've never gotten the achievement for being "self-sufficient in the investigation" despite always doing all of the investigation stages myself. As in, not sending Jocasta to the officers deck and instead going yourself, not sending Jocasta to the plasma drive chamber and instead going yourself, etc. You always have an option to skip the investigation stages and have other people do them. But I never did, and I don't have the achievement.

So now I realize that it probably means these flavor choices too where you let someone else speak or do something. It probably means you can't even do those either. So you can't let Pasqal get you access to the cogitator on the officer's deck, you can't let Heinrix interrogate the fake cultist, you can't let Jocasta interrogate this guy, etc. Which is unfortunate, since these people all add to the scenes.

Does Rogue Trader have this problem of having some companions locked into retard builds and only recruitable more than half-way into the story like wotr does? I felt extremely sorry for durlag by the end. That whole storyline kinda reminded me of dungeon meshi, which made me more emotionally invested than in the rest of the game.
Overall, Baldurs gate 1 was decent game, but definitely lacking in some ways. I don't understand why I need an xp cap, or why picking up items when my entire party is selected defaults to my PC trying to pick it up even with a full inventory, which means I have to deliberately switch to another character, check their inventory to see if they have space and then go to where I need to pick up the item with that character.
I also don't like that a lot of the DLC items can't be sold and aren't useful outside the DLC, like the werewolf stuff.

Space Marines are leagues above rogue traders in terms of 1v1. A space marine would kill a rogue trader in seconds without any particular exertion, because Rogue Traders are just well equipped and well educated people, sometimes with some fancy augmentations.

On screen and off screen is not literal, it's a way to refer to events that happen as an event within the main narrative that the characters participate in, or off screen is something that happens that we are only told about. These sort of terms are easily understood by people who discuss literature/fiction/etc, and you being confused tells me a lot.

Something being stated in a game also doesn't mean much. You may as well have said Space Marine 2 features marines getting killed a lot. We know, because the games are meant to feel epic, and make the player feel epic. They do not trump the codecies and main rulebook fluff sections which describe the capabilities and physical traits of space marines. Getting the highest form of canon to spell out what space marines are like and capable of will always trump an author of a game or tv show wanting to make the scene super epic wow amazing by having space marines die in drives. This is a basic element of media literacy, which you have failed.

When you're controlling Ulfar and giving him orders during a combat encounter, he's following the rules of a gameplay space marine. A lore space marine would never experience any issues and would complete every encounter in the game in seconds until he met an enemy space marine, and then he would die to the lore accurate c'tan shard alongside everyone else.

However, when Ulfar is talking to you in a conversation about fighting wulfen and whether a human should even be present for that fight, that is a lore discussion, in which case he is right that a human would just die against a lore accurate wulfen. When a space marine is not depicted accurately in accordance with the main rulebook or codex fluff sections, that depiction is non-canon. There is a highest form of canon, and anything contradicting it is wrong. That does not mean we can't enjoy those stories, or that those stories are bad, it just means the author of that story is electing to contradict the setting's fluff in order to serve his own storytelling. Perfect example; modern videogames love to make the player feel epic, so we need space marines dying in droves in the cutscenes and backdrop, in order for Captain Titus to feel like a total badass when he slays the tyranids who just killed 10 other space marines.

It does exist in all of those other stories, and the only reason you think it doesn't is ignorance. Vecna patiently waiting for you to cast Hold Monster so he can roll his wisdom save is a gameplay lore disconnect, because he should just kill everyone in a hundred mile radius. No, the fluff sections of the main rulebook and codecies wouldn't exist if they were meant to be ignored. The rules section has to exist for the sake of the game, but the fluff sections only exist at all in order to inform the reader about the setting. The primary publications have a fluff section to inform the reader about the setting, and they have a rules section to allow you to learn how to play the game. The game section of the book has to be balanced for the sake of the tabletop game that people play competatively, but the fluff section can be whatever they want it to be. They could have just written the fluff section to match the rules section, if that's what they wanted their story setting to be. But they didn't. They chose to write the fluff section as describing the space marines are superhuman monsters. So because they went through the effort to write these fluff sections the way they did, when they did not need to, tells us that it's important to the setting that this information be conveyed. Which in turns tells us that the section that is balanced around a tabletop wargame is not the section that conveys fluff. That section is simply balanced around the tabletop wargame. The section that is story and facts about the setting is the one to be taken as facts about the story and setting. This is fairly obvious and you're saying outright stupid stuff like "but what if we chose to take the rules section as the one that's accurate to the fluff and pretend the fluff section doesn't exist hmmm? what then?".
