Maybe the blades themselves are special too? They'll pursue, but not to the lenghts of The Middle. They're not nearly as organized as the Thumb. And their Proxies are strong, but seemingly not as individually as The Pinky. So perhaps it's a combination of their blades, the prescripts, and some kind of foresight.

Given the specialties of The Index main proxies (Discernment, Stamina, and Speed), perhaps the main combat advantage of The Index would be combat maneuverability or DEX. While the Thumb is organized, the Middle has numbers, and the Ring has their tech, the Index has members with guided towards the right place at the right time to help them fight. Imagine trying to fight a Proxy and they keep on predicting your moves while just following the path they feel they should follow. Makes me think of them like samurai, or maybe even following "The Flow'".

Thinking about it now, it makes me ponder about the differences in fighting styles between the mooks of the Fingers and their officers. The mooks of the Fingers fight in a way that displays the main fundamentals thag define each Finger.

But the individual officers are more free to fight as they want and have more variety.

I believe the main problem with dealing with the Index would indeed be the prescripts, mostly because, unless you're a member of the index yourself, they're basically impossible to predict, you could try killing some proselyte and take their prescript to try to get some intel of their operations, but said prescript could very well be something as inane as "go towards the nearest restaurant and order the day's special" Meanwhile, getting your hiding busted without warning by a Proxy and his gang of proselytes because a prescript told him to go there is 100% a death sentence
