https://github.com/wine-staging/wine-staging/blob/master/patches/dsound-Fast_Mixer/0001-dsound-Add-a-linear-resampler-for-use-with-a-large-n.patch
I was looking at Proton GE forks and noticed one that disables this patch set because it causes audio crackling in some games.
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30639
Looking in to it, this was a dirty hack implemented to help performance in a few games. For some reason staging decided to pick up the patch and hence GE.
From the looks of it on ProtonDB, none of those games are known to have performance issues with Proton so I guess GE and staging have been fucking audio quality for 99% of games for no reason with a 13-year-old patch. Nice.

speaking of proton-ge, GloriousEggroll has been shipping binaries that don't match the source of recent releases:
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/issues/203
this issue is due to umu sdk being bumped to one based on the latest valve steam rt which switched to gcc 14
then there are nonsense commits like this that add options that will definitely cause the build to fail:
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/commit/fa54a37
>--enable-decoder=valve*
this option does not exist

Thanks for posting and apologies for not reviving the thread myself when I saw it was dead on Monday night. I don't have much time to post during the week, and I didn't want to make a thread just to see it die again immediately, so I told myself I wouldn't make another until Friday (and if /lgg/ is a weekends-only thread then so be it). But now that we're back, I'll bump whenever I can.
I beat FALLSTRUKTUR, by the way. Steam Workshop has a handful of user-made levels so I might try some of those. There are achievements for beating the developers' times on the default level too but I'm not really interested.

I tried fixing that piece of shit by booting via luve usb and tried all those "helpful' btrfs rescue commands and they did jackshit, not to mention that dogshit system isn't intended for drives that write constantly and it reported that my metadata was full and you can't delete it because btrfs doesn't give you the option to.
That was 2 years ago, maybe they added new shit but I don't care anymore.
If a file system forces me to boot into a live usb to troubleshoot because the developers didn't or won't develop a proper rescue program/tool, it's in fact a dogshit system.

Haha. That's what happened to me a few years ago. It is a skill issue but only because BTRFS's utilities are arcane pieces of shit they don't expect anyone to ever need to use.
For what it's worth, even if you did manage to recover from it, your metadata partition will never go back to being as healthy as it was before.

Anon who had freesync on his laptop from a few threads a go, logged into KDE x11, disabled compositing and enabled variable refresh rate, it even prevents tearing of windows in desktop, thought it would only be for full screen windows. Interestingly enough, vkcube did not tear at all in kwin x11 with compositing disabled and adaptive sync disabled, but dragging windows around still produced noticeable tearing at 64hz.

Some applications, such as mpv make a better effort at syncing to monitor using newer x11 extensions (by new I meant like 10-15 years old). These will often have no tearing even in window mode unless you have some heavy process running in the background that makes frame timing worse.

Any anons with a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X? I want to play Nuclear Option with this Hotas but the stick rotate & throttle paddles don't work, I could live without the paddles but I need stick rotate. Has anyone had/solved this issue before? It's an older model if that matters. If it's borken it's not the end of the world since I wouldn't mind getting a good one, but I'd like to play now. I checked my kernel config and I did have hid-thrustmaster disabled but it looks like it's only for some wheels, not my hotas, and everything else works.

Anything under XP works fine with Wine for me.
XP and newer needs me to drop in Linux nwjs though. Wine just sits on Now Loading... forever.
How to deal with this error? I tried creating a directory both where the .exe is located as well as in wine's Windows drive but that didn't make a difference. Also on googling the error I see a bunch of people noticing the same thing in Windows, but nothing specific to wine/proton.

If you still get such an error when you have all the correct files then try running the exe from the games directory (change directory to it in a terminal and then run it).

inb4 install gentoo.
But I don't know. People like to say that you should go into the general settings (just called "General" in the menu because reasons I guess) and disable compositing for full-screen windows, but I never really noticed much of a difference. There's gamemode but don't know how relevant that is either; I've never seen it make much of a difference, but if it's only relevant to Nvidia or something then that would be why. If you try running games and the performance is godawful, you'll want to make sure the games are using your discrete graphics card instead of your CPU's integrated graphics chip, but that's not so much an optimization issue as just getting your shit to work at all.
Frankly, having switched to Linux about 5 years ago, I've never seen any "here's how to optimize Linux for gaming" advice that isn't basically just "install this distro", maybe because it's all about what flags were used when compiling the kernel or some shit.

I currently have a dualboot with both of them
The upside of bazzite is that its basically plug and play. It almost always just works.
The downside as I learned later is that its an immutable distro. Meaning that it puts guardrails up to prevent the user from fucking shit up. But sometimes you want to go around them if you're installing something deeper. I wanted to mess around with some DAWs but I realized I couldn't install this special compatibility tool that would let me use windows plugins because bazzite is immutable.
Inversely, I have more freedom on mint and generally games seem to work but there was a little more legwork involved in the research of how to set stuff up. I'm still working on it too. On bazzite all the prerequisite work to make gaming smooth is already done for you
>TL;DR if all you want to do is game and maybe use some other surface level apps, bazzite will work better. If you want to do anything deeper than surface level, mint may work better but there will be more work in setting up the gaming stuff.

It adds a repository from which you can install Flatpak programs (presumably Dolphin) with the appropriate `flatpak install some.shit//version` command (where "some.shit//version" is the exact package name, which you can generally find with `flatpak search shit`). In this case, I assume you'll want to do `flatpak install org.DolphinEmu.dolphin-emu`.
But I don't know why you'd add a repository if your Flatpak installation already came with Flathub as a remote (which it probably did), because it looks like Flathub has the same package. If the one in Flathub is unofficial and thus less trustworthy or something, then I don't know how you would ensure that Flatpak installs it specifically from the official Dolphin repository. (I don't use Flatpak very often.)
