I wonder if Kris is some sort of creation of Gaster and the grey crease is supposed to be some sort of remnant of that, like he was literally colored in or something.
Maybe it has to do with his skin literally being yellow (i've never seen humans that yellow before outside of jaundice and even then).
Maybe thats why when we look at the first book in the upstairs librarby, Kris is so desperate to close the book with a photo of other humans.
We originally thought this was just him trying to stop US from gathering information but I always found it odd that he specifically doesn't want us to see that and of the room Queen made for Asriel.
For all intents and purposes, chapter 1 should be the first time Kris is "controlled" by us, an outside force.
It doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me that he should be THIS resistant to us especially since we havn't made him do anything drastic by that point in time and the fact he can seemingly rip us out whenever is another matter.

my current schizoview is that when you open a Dark World, at least in a building, the fountain forms with the room/place around it as its "main body" and the whole location at the level of the Dark World is like a dreaming proto-Titan, with a "boss" Darkner chosen from the most Lightner-valued item and the other ones as its "spawn"
So if you open a fountain inside of an existing Dark World, it's as bad as opening one inside a Lightner, because you're awakening the Dark World itself into an active and destructive form
