Baldr's best fodder is Archrival but the jury's not out whether or not that's gonna be any good. It seems bonkers on paper. Better wait for meta to develop.
Deerfag has a new "physical only" save which seems pretty cool because you can make an armor tank go all in on Def. You can pimp out your free Marni easily. Or an armor beast if you want to utilize the whole buffalo and fodder the A skill too.
Byleth has a pretty awesome kit minus the A skill for a speed infantry omnitank, though you will have to get Velocity as bridge fodder which is a bitch because it's rare.
Sharena has unique special, A, and B skills for mages (special and A are any movement, B can only be used by ranged cavs and fliers) but to get the whole thing you need a 3*-4* Homer released last month.

Atk is always useful. That's one of the main reasons why merlinus is arguably the worst unit in the game. As for the defensive stats giving +1, it's technically +4 since she does gain another +3 from being close to allies.
The 5 DR is FLAT DR and cannot be lowered by things like moonbow or something. I forgot if that's actually true, I don't remember whether FLAT DR was actually better.
But then again, that does not outweight the other benefits from atk/spd faith.
Caeda's build is fine as it is, but she could see some improvements if you rather not waste so many orbs

You get >4 def/res more than faith and the pledge effect literally doesn't matter since faith's preempt pulse is objectively better in 99% of the scenarios. preempt pulse doesn't get completely nullified by tempo, which quite some units have. It also doesn't fold to basic Guard effects which was so damn common it because less common. And it can trigger your special on first attack very often.

If you are so keen on the +6 def/res that's perfectly fine. If you keep Caeda's doubler dc it can boost it more, sure. But consider Alarm def/res which grant the same +6 def/res with the +3 def/res extra bonus. But the conditions are a lot easier to activate and instead of breath effect, it grants canto 1. It still activates when you're grouped up, but unlike pledge you can be solo and still gain all effects

I got an easy win in chapter 20 of Thracia, which is otherwise very hard. Basically Asbel got a lucky vigor when he was near the main boss (20% chance to move twice in a row) and could finish him in one round and THEN in the next turn he dodges 3 ballista shots with a 45% hit chance each which would've killed him. This allowed me to clear the rest of the level easily, since killing the boss cuts off reinforcements.
