I also have the current sales on my front page and recommendations based on what I play (mostly Chinese indie games).

There's a limited number of front page slots. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think qualifying for certain slots like the $5 or $10 and under carousels will raise the threshold required for making it to the main featured carousel. However, those $5 and $10 carousel slots are arguable more valuable for the kind of games that fit there, since plenty of Steam users do specifically look there for games to buy.

Btw, "Overwhelmingly Positive" is treated the exact same as to as low as "Mixed" by the Steam algorithm. Review numbers and review %s don't matter. Only revenue actually matters.

I've been working on the shoot mechanic. To begin with I created a goal 3d object and luckily most of the functionality to get shoot working could be copied from the pass functionality.

Next up is to create a goalkeeper who has a chance to save the shoot. Afterwards a scoreboard will be needed. After that the next major feature will be adding cpu movement / tactics which should start to turn it into a game.

Some RPGs don't overcomplicate things, and thats probably where its at its best. Yeah you can get this bonus but its not really that important you can skip it you can go in naked it will be a little harder but its not the end of the world. you can outplay the scenario pretty well its gonna be alright.

And then when you find a game that is simpler in the ways that youd prefer games to be, they're also mechanically simple and not engaging at all.
Devil May Cry is mostly about your skill as a player and beating encounters as you progress through the areas.
But I don't need every game to be Devil May Cry levels of difficulty. But theres like nothing in the middle ground that is just a solid mechanically interesting game, they are the rare gems out there of games.

do you know what kinematic means? it means other colliders cannot influence it. you're using a method meant to move a kinematic rigidbody, ignoring all obstacles, to move a rigidbody that you do want to collide with things.

kinematic RB = shoves other things out of the way, goes where it pleases

non-kinematic RB = normal dynamic collider like one would intuitively imagine. should NOT be teleported as its main way of moving around.

I tried shifting it to kinematic, all that did was stop all X-Z movement and cause it to fall through the floor like it's in quicksand.

when something happens diegetically it's on its own terms. its "coolness" exists only in the vacuum of that player's session. when something cool happens in a cutscene, which is shorthand for any time control is removed from the player, it exists in the frame of reference of all cutscenes and has to compete with them in the viewer's mind. so only make it a cutscene if you're confident that it's really first class even in comparison to professional products.

as a bonus, when it's obvious that it might have been missed, the player feels special for not having missed it even if the percentage of players missing it is low.

Some progress for Wilderness Alchemist. Items that you can place in the world. The first item I implemented was this flower pot, basically just for testing the mechanic. Next up I'm going to make all the devices work with the same mechanic too, so they can be placed anywhere and however many you want. They used to be just unlocks, after purchase one would show up in their own place in the cabin.

Does anybody use Blender? I've got a character I'm working on and there's no tutorials for what I'm trying to do with the current version of Blender.

I've got a character with a lot of different accessories, like hair and rabbit ears. The two things I need to do are modify the rig to add bones that only simulate motion to them, and somehow parent them to the rig, but I can't figure out how to do either.

Everybody just uses airtight single meshes, not meshes with multiple pieces. You can't rig and animate multi-part meshes which makes accessories like rabbit ears or glasses almost impossible without workarounds.

Rigify is multiple layers of skeletons arranged like a puppet on strings, all the shit you see on the screen for manipulating the rig are the strings, the actual puppet are the bones that say DEF on them, for deformation bones. Your mesh needs to be parented to these bones. From what I remember the deformation bones are not setup in a proper skeleton heirarchy for games, you need to pull them out of the rig and re-assemble them into their own skeleton and then use bone constraints to make them follow the rig. There's tutorials on this if you simply search rigify to godot.

Godot VFX support is nowhere near Unity's (which is nowhere near Unreal's.) Likewise, its networking will work until you have hundreds of synchronized objects, at which point you're going to have to implement the things Unity does for you. Like I said, if you don't need the advanced features, Godot's fine, but claiming it has everything Unity has just because it has basic support for things is stupid.

I'm an artfag and I have the same mentality regarding AI. I don't understand why AI bothers other artfags as much as it does. I draw because I like to draw. The existence of AI doesn't stop me from being able to draw, and it doesn't take away the pleasure I get from drawing.
Yes, it's true that AI enables people to churn out slop at a pace which human artists can't keep up with, so posting your art online is basically pointless now as its bound to be washed away in the sea of slop. But at the end of the day what you should care about is the enjoyment you get from the creative process, not from fame and recognition on the internet. Not sure what ref has to do with it. I don't really use it either, when you know how to render form from imagination, and how to handle light on all different materials you don't need it, but if you use all your knowledge, your picture will be accused of being AI if you share it.
