the damage from chariots mainly comes from contact damage and sometimes fall damage if they go flying down a hill or something, if you charge them in like cavalry they will just get stuck
the trick is to find a weak spot in their formation, charge the chariot in, and as soon as it connects order to attack nearby target or to simply run through them
chariots being weak is unironically a skill issue, but it can be difficult and annoying to manage them properly due to all of their limitations

some chariots are shit, others destroy enemy infantry, in general take into consideration the Unit Mass, you can check that value in the top left? (iirc) icon that resembles a human and tells you if the unit is big or small. Usually the more mass a chariot has the more it wrecks enemy infantry and the less it gets stuck, but also some infantry have "brace against large enemies" and stuff like that that reduces chariot damage if attacked from the front, so flank or rear attack them.

The engine will be new, and even then the current engine isn't the limitation, it's the actual skill from the devs.
They already have vehicles and magic, they'd just need better animations, cover system and bigger/tighter maps to accommodate the new combat styles.
They'll either go with a single planet or a single solar system for the map and that's it, it's not rocket science.
For units, just make two variations, for smaller skirmish maps you get smaller squads with better micro, for bigger maps you get larger squadrons and transports.

I've played all of them a lot (I play the game in bursts where I play ~10hr a day, I'm almost at the end of the current 'burst'). Gorbad is the worst by far, it's just 'okay'. Planz are effortless to upkeep, but he's too bland and generic, which is okay but every other GS LL is far more fun. U'Zhul and Arbaal are both very strong, both fun in their own way but easily snowball into being batshit strong, and that's even if you ignore blood hosts (as I often do in an attempt to make Khorne less bullshit strong). Golgfag is great all-round but after finishing a handful of big campaigns with him I struggle to justify playing him again, as his contract mechanic is very limited it seems (you're not neutral, it's heavily biased in favor of Order).

Khorne is the most braindead faction CA has ever made, you can beat 90% of armies with any lord and 19 bloodletters, which you recruit from a tier 1 settlement.

The war and violence faction is good at war and violence

Pharoh dynasties has sea lanes which instead of teleporting, give your armies in that sea lane like 100% extra movement range, so it doesn't take forever to get from Greece to Egypt.

The Sherden are just a horde faction, the Walwetes start as a horde but can become a settled faction whose faction roster changes to be more defensive after they settle, they aren't really mechanics I could see in Warhammer.

Was path of the Conqueror added with Pharoh? It uses Slaanesh's mechanic where you spend conqueror points to steal units from an enemy army, except its permanent.

It barely changes anything for bad players and allows decent players to snowball faster and harder.
While it maybe makes the campaign harder for bad players those aren't the ones playing harder difficulties and losing their immortal lords and heroes, even if they do very few will actually deal with consequences, they'll retry the battle or reload a save from a couple turns earlier, they already do it now when their lords come back in 4 turns no way in hell they'll live with it if it's gone forever, on the other hand the AI will only become easier to beat because it can't reload like a newer player would do and it can't hope to gain high levels that would slow an experienced player in the late game, fighting against Vlad, the imperial lords who farmed him for his trait or Tamurkhan would lose it's challenge, a big part of it is fighting a strong lord capable of dealing a lot of damage who comes rises from the grave and comes back for another round next turn. Fighting any faction in the late game will also be a lot easier as they never get a healthy amount of high level lords and heroes who'd be able to slow a player down.

Bloodhosts are far, far too easy to get and have far too much investment in them by CA in terms of mechanics/tech tree. Dawi grudge armies are much better in execution (and are still strong).

Half and half. Golgfag has a unique system where he regularly gets contract offers from other factions that are at war to come and help them fight their enemies. For the duration of that contract, you're allies with that faction and enemies with all of their enemies. Once per contract, Golgfag gets given the option to teleport to any settlement his client owns. And the contracts arrive from all over the world (for the first contract you choose between Ostland and Nordland, the second contract is usually someone around the area of the Old World, but third contract onwards it's basically completely random and you could end up all of a sudden in Lustria, or Cathay, or Naggarond).

Ogres also have the camp mechanic, where you drop down settlements wherever you feel like. So the gameplay loop for Golgfag is something like "Check mercenary offers > Pick whichever you like for whatever reason (where you wanna go, who you wanna fight, what the reward is, etc.) > Teleport to client > Fight their enemies > Drop down a new camp or bring over your previous one so you can replenish your army".

On the other hand, you've got the full normal ogre campaign experience. You can take provinces normally, so you can do a sort of ogre Outer Heaven by taking a province, dropping a camp in it and just building it up, or you can expand normally and create your ogre empire wherever on the map you feel like, or you can just take provinces here and there if you feel like it without holding too much regard for having a single unified territory since Golfag gets all over the place. You can even just ignore territories until suddenly halfway through the campaign you take a contract near the mountains of Mourn, bonk Greasus on the head and force confederate all his territories.

It's a really freestyle campaign, but in a good way.

I disagree, I had to restart a chaos campaign because bad plays and bad luck slowed me down on my way to the empire, when I finally got there around turn 60 I was fighting army after army of outriders, land ships, hellstorms, hellblasters and steam tanks, Franz and Elsphet both had Vlad's trait so they were back as soon as they left, multiple engineer lords on steam tanks which aside from being good at killing were hard to kill and unbreakable meaning the imperials surrounding them weren't so keen on the idea of running away without a fight, every time I took down an armored regiment 4 more manifested from the woods. I could deal with them individually but having to fight so many battles every turn or risk losing progress took a toll on both me and my armies. Knowing that the 3 unit army on the other side of the river currently recruiting was about to become a problem and barely being done with half of the empire after 20 turns of one manual fight after the next to finally lose 2 armies in the same turn made me give up.
On my current Dark Elves campaign the elves managed to unite and fortify ulthuan, I had to spend 8 turns wearing them down on sea before I even had the chance to land without being overwhelmed and part of it were both the competent armies (sisters of averlorn, lothern sea guard, dragons and phoenixes) and the high level lords on dragons.
My current Dwarf campaign turned to a crawl after beating one of the legendary Chaos Dwarf lords, sure he had an ork laborer shitstack the first time but killing him felt like a mistake because now his armies have blunderbusses, dreadquakes, infernal guard and fireglaives.

Is confederation the only way to take over a faction/settlement peacefully? From what I've read relations must be over 150, and my strength needs to be much higher than theirs. I want to absorb the tree people before they get obliterated by everyone (including me) around them.

I can't get Malakai's campaign off the ground
I usually deal with throt and Azazel and begin with purging the norsca but the entire chaos wastes declares war on me while i'm hemorrhaging money in upkeep costs

Every Malakai campaign for me does end up overwhelmed as every single Chaos faction is eventually at war with me and all crossing across the sea to attack all my undefended settlements as I'm desperately trying to finish off Norsca.

Been considering doing a slight migration campaign moving to the Azhag province and playing from there instead, but abandoning Kraka Drak feels bad.
