Whereas other companions seem like they came from same californian 5e character mold, Lae'zel and her questline - the only questline to go from tutorial through acts 1, 2 and 3 - present truly unique character arc

New Oath means you can stop the Paladin dip at 2 rather than 3. It's not as good as advantage but it lets you take magical secrets (all the way at level 12) from Bard which is great. Ended up having some decent luck, managed to block things off to the point only the one at the side door came through. Even with Jaheira ice storming the barricades to the main door, this fight went well.
An ideal thing would be if Isobel's AI were tweaked to recognize that staying alive is a priority, but this went well.

One trick I've picked up in my last couple of playthroughs is pre-placing barrels and stuff ahead of time, then I'm able to do stuff mid-fight with karlach like unblock and reblock doors as needed.

Arcane lock loses a lot of utility once you figure out how the AI pathfinding works IMO, why use a spell when you essentially have the same abilities with any high strength character and moving shit is typically a free action outside of movement speed depending on your path.
I can tell when I've got a good setup the longer it takes the enemy AI to make decisions. Based on what I know about the system, the game has certain actions for AI controlled characters that are sort of scripted, and when those aren't possible, they fall back to more involved computation. If the AI is standing there for a few seconds a turn, you know you've caused something that will affect the encounter solidly

They definitely can, but I've found it to be more of an edge case than anything. The winged horrors in the abduction encounter are probably the only time it becomes a serious concern for me. I also don't just rely on path manipulation, I always have other tricks up my sleeve.
Generally I find the more flexible a plan is, the less catastrophic bad rolls or any other undesirable outcomes are.

The saving grace of that fight is that marcus is made of paper, and he always spawns in roughly the same spot in the room, so with some pre-positioning you can usually have the encounter start with him surrounded. He's also weirdly light, so any barbarian can actually just move him as well.
It's really the hooked horrors that make it annoying, hence why I focus so much on funneling them through the downstairs as much as I can.
