As an EU, the main reason I got bored very quickly this time was because most of the people I was paired with were people I literally would never see again until next FBF. There is way too many of either NA people (who don't come to EU timezone activities) or people who do not log in outside of bigger events. The better matches I got were with people that I regularly see around; simply because it allows to discuss a bit more privately than usual, but without feeling like a complete waste of time.

I’ve been theorizing of a modified FBF matching where it’s 10-15 minute long matches and everyone is instructed by the host to checkmark everyone in the list that they don’t know yet.

Leaving only people you know who you can have a deep long conversation with.
The host then ferries anyone else who got left behind into another activity just in case cause it basically hardlocks the map for 10-15 mins at a time

There's a map that I know exists but I haven't been able to find again that tracks where everyone is looking and if you're looking at another user, it increments a meter above their head (which also decays over time). So you get a visual indicator of who has been looked at the most, which serves as a proxy of who has been talking the most.

While it's definitely not a perfect system (people will stare at overlays with you in the background, or desktoppers will alt tab wherever), it did make me think of more organic ways to prompt conversation change than teleporting people into rooms. Like, if one person is dominating the conversation for too long (as detected by gaze), slowly fade out their voice volume. Or draw lines on the floor to other people you haven't talked/stared at and slowly fade out the lines to people you've already interacted with a lot, and let people mosey around.

If anyone knows which map that was, please link it. I think it was by one of the jp map makers that do a lot of experimental udon gimmicks like S_ASAGIRI, but it's not them.

I've uploaded 9 avatars in the past couple months, and didn't manually generate imposters for any of them.
Just checking now, I see that the first 5 have imposters, and the most recent 4 don't. Even though the most recent 6 were uploaded on the same day. So the first 2 from that day got an imposter, but the following 4 did not, or maybe just not yet?
I'm guessing vrchat has an internal slow moving queue to do these, but will bump you up in the queue if you request it sooner.
Actually, checking an older avatar I uploaded in june, and it doesn't have imposters. But a different one from june does.
For context all of the mentioned avatars are ones I sell on the vrc marketplace, so whatever treatment they're getting internally should be the same for all of them, but it seems not to be.

The root of the issue is that /vrg/ is massive and that there is a sizable portion that don't get the intention. If there was a way to automate it so that you couldn't match with people on your friends list already it would be better.

idk whats with anons here talking about their FBF experience being bad. im a newfag and it was my first FBF, and also i stumbled upon it accidentally, thinking it was a SEA exploration (which was actually tommorow). it was SEA FBF, but theres some NA and EU anons (barely any SEA actually), and all the people i talk to are pretty cool, as in nothing weird happened or things getting awkward, at least i hope so with the people im talking with as well. the worst experience i had with /vrg/ community so far is in today's SEA exploration where i was spraying a watergun at their face and threatening to block me if i dont stop. if you see this just do it and dont tell people that youre blocking them next time you bitchass nigga.

some anons did say that the FBF will get diluted with some bad eggs when the real NA and EU regulars trickle in, so i dont have anything to say about that lol

I don't think it's always zero sum (e.g. if the random matching happens to match everyone within cliques that get along internally but not externally, that's substantially more utility than if all the matches are inter-clique), but that variance plus the human bias to overweight bad experiences over good ones means some anons will have a good time and go on with their life, and some will have a bad time and complain about it.

I don't actually know how the math works out though. Would be interesting to run some simulations.
