I think the reason why M2 is content with being "locked" into the Afton persona for years is that it's basically a free outlet for him to keep on killing with no second thought. When Glitchtrap was killed in HW2, Mimic's been stripped of a personality not once (F10-N4), not twice (David), but THREE seperate times.

The SL Custom Night cutscenes are markedly different in nature to the FNAF4 ones and you know that. We also don't even know how much time passed between Mike's scooping and the first cutscene. Also flesh 100% can begin to show signs of decay within a single day if it's being exposed to the elements, constantly moving about in the heat, etc. Decomposition begins essentially immediately after death, and it's possible for a body to be completely reduced to just a skeleton in about 2 weeks. Michael AFTON didn't exist in 4, but Mike did. I pointed out the connections between the players of 1-4. NTA but although SL had one of the better stories and making the Afton family a thing was a major plus for the series (might be controversial) but the actual gameplay of the base game is terrible. The breaker room and the secret bunker ending are the only good gameplay segments in the whole thing. Custom Night DLC helped alleviate that, but SL as a whole is one of the worst gameplay wise, and the Custom Night is what saves it from being below 2 and the 6 office segments

I think the story is a big part of it though right? Like SL is the first game that actually in my opinion has an interesting story, the previous games were only selling you vague ideas and even then the plot was incredibly basic. In my opinion the FNAF story only really got fun after crazy shit started getting introduced.

So do you guys believe that The Mimic was always planned? I kind of believe so, because when you actually look at the bizarre fucking details even in Security Breach they actually seem to make a lot of sense with the Mimic. I think 3 and 4 have solid stories too. The killer coming back one last time and the souls of the children being laid to rest and a boy wracked with guilt over the death of his sibling who he bullied and killed have merit to them. Though I admit, they were still very vague. Also yeah, I agree that getting crazier was generally a positive direction for the series, though I do think SL actually helped clarify and ground shit more than people think. Best game gameplay wise as a whole from the Clickteam era would either be 4 or 1. 3 is better than most people give it credit for (it's just the jumpscare that's shit) and the Custom Night DLC for SL might be the best single segment of that whole era

Obviously not. If it was planned then it's insane planning considering nothing in HW, AR or SB implies the Mimic, and that books haven't been as directly translated into lore before.
The fact that SB "makes more sense with le Mimic" is ultimately irrelevant, because the Mimic is a great excuse for anything. An AI that can replicate anyone and anything can be used to excuse both lazy reuses of characters or OOC moments. Fuck they could go ahead and say that Vanny was actually le Mimic with illusion disks since that one ending shows it not being Vanessa but having Vanessa's face and people'd go "that makes sense!"

There's seriously no evidence in the games that shit like MoltenMCI, FNaF4 being William torturing kids with fear gas for some fucking reason, the illusion disks, Golden Freddy having two souls, 1985 being the date the kids went missing and agony are canon in the slightest. The closest thing we get to book lore being made canon is with SotM and even then there are WILD differences between SotM and the Mimic plotline in the Tales books, to the point it 100% proves them and by proxy the Frights books as noncanon.
