You can get the Griffon when you're towards the end of Path of Fire, you still have HoT and LWS3 to go through before that. The Griffon is like a jet but it can't really gain altitude on its own, needs to start from a higher part or use the Springer/Skyscale + End of Dragons jade bot gliding boost to use without already being on a high part of a map.
The skyscale is like a helicopter, much better at gaining height and climbing but slower top speeds. You get it at the end of LWS4 or in Secrets of the Obscure. It's a long grind, longer with LWS4 but worth doing for full masteries and eventual requirement if you go for the legendary accessory Vision.

how do you decide what profession to pick? I played gw1 all the way back in middle school and played ranger mesmer, and now coming back I can't decide between ranger or mesmer or elementalist or necromancer for a primary profession. I just got a mesmer elementalist up to level 8 and into post searing, but I do want to also do a ranger monk or some kind of necromancer or elementalist and it's very frustrating bc I don't want to go through the Ascalon opening fifty more times before settling on a character. mesmer feels pretty weak so far, though I just got to the post searing and haven't gotten any new skills yet so idk how true that is for the rest of the game

I mainly messed around with necromancers (for corpse exploitation), mesmers (for energy manipulation), and monks for Light of Dwayna (party revive to prevent wipes).

I only run in zergs because I can't be assed to get another ascended set that has marauder stats. Making legendary gear seems like a huge grind as well as a secondary player the zerg life is my life.

In fact it's so lazily done it commits the same sort of common corner cutting I see often in struggling projects. They couldn't be assed to adjust the guild decoration system to be universal and allow withdrawing/depositing so guild decorations could be used in home instances; instead they simply cloned every single item entry into a new table. Why? Because this is the type of busywork you can pay a low-level monkey to do for pennies rather than a higher priced programmer who needs to spend more effort diving into the guts of your system. And it always bites you in the because the more you add layer upon layer of "just make it work, we have to ship next month" quick fixes, the harder things become to untangle and really improve down the line.

I don't come up with intricate backstories for my character anymore. A blurb of exposition to set the tone and then make up everything as I play. I try to reflect character growth through gradually changing my look, content I do etc and acting it out in the moment.
My main is basic barbarian ranger. He started out rough around the edges loner hunter, untamed (lol), gradually learning responsibility from leading the pact first and then raising dragon daughter. Funny thing, before SotO officially existed, I was role playing midlife crisis due to all world threat ending and Aurene leaving. Running around almost half naked, a bit feral, looking for trouble. Wizard taking him in was a good plot point to bounce off of and now he is a much more of a heroic leader character, decked out with magical items.
All other charr I have just have theme for visuals, almost no history

This is where your argument falls flat. First, this is a fictional story about a fictional character. Any assumptions made are headcanon unless I say otherwise. Second, there is a 2000 character limit and my story was pretty much done by the time I hit it. So it is up to (You) to ask questions, civilly, if you don't know. Third, I added "must be older" directly after specifying grooming because I don't approve of pedophilia, even for characters that are supposed to be permanently broken. Seems you already got caught by those kinds of faggots, all you can do is train to spot them in time and not get flustered if you do.
Even if you don't make friends fast this will help build confidence and cool during social interactions.
GW2 is the best for spontaneous coop with no strings attached, helps remove pressure.

Druid and Untamed both do similar damage, but not in a pet centric way.
Necro doesn't really use pets outside of Open World content, and even then they're more sponges than anything.
