What's your success rate with the A-5C? By using the J7D they are some of my main food source since they tend to go in a straight line at low altitude, and as a certified J7D tactic i always shoot them with a PL5B from orbit

Its pretty "meh" in air realistic. 10.7 it faces planes that outperform it and have flares, but you can get 2 surprise kills with the magic 1s against busy or unaware opponents. And 4x napalm bombs are enough to kill a base for extra SL and RP.

In arcade its a completely different beast, able to upkeep its afterburner for ungodly long amounts of time where other jets get cut off after a few seconds. Plus the passive reload in air in arcade lets you just keep flying high then swooping down to try and snag a kill or two, and bomb ground targets. This does require you to skill up reload speed and repair rank skills though. And the base SL gains in arcade are garbage compared to realistic. But its honestly more fun, as bases respawn quicker (depending on mission) and you can always swap to a different plane if you get ganged up on.

After playing it a whole lot the past few days. Object 292 isn't all that great to me, the gun is pointless overkill over like 3BM42. The thing just feels really soft and easy to kill. Not to mention no thermals at 10.7.

That's true but that was one of the worst situation i could find myself in (it would have been worse if there was a SARH slinger)
The other J7D matched me, the F-5E is slower but if i get slow it has more acceleration than me, the Alpha Jet can turn on a dime. I was really lucky even with the gun, it gives me only "Hit" 50% of the times for some kind of reason (i'm using the default belts)

Its a MIG-21 with 4x Magic 1 equivalent missiles, at a battle rating where most things below it have no flares, and it regularly gets downtiered to face stuff that doesn't have flares. You use its rassha blessed acceleration and top speed to climb to an altitude where few go, and swoop down behind enemies to fire your missiles to fly in at ludicrous speed. Then you boost back to airfield, reload and do it again.

The visual weapon selector doesnt actually let me change weapons when I bring it up anymore for some reason.

At the start of the match, i take 4xPL5B since they are monsters at range. If you are in top-down (as you should be) and going mach you can snipe people away from even 5km. The acceleration is majestic, it has a lot of range and energy and a short burn time so the MSL diamond disappears fast. After the first sortie, when i go to refuel and rearm, i usually take 3xPL5B and 1xPL7 because the survivors are more attentive and a PL7 is extremly good in a low speed dogfight.

That's the big advantage of grid fins (the other advantage is needing actuators with less torque to achieve the same deflection and the ability to fold, but that's not relevant for the game). The disadvantage is the inconsistent drag curve which is about the same as conventional fins at subsonic and supersonic speeds but sharply spikes at transonic speeds. This is NOT modelled in game as the R-77's drag is generalized into a single, higher than average value, which is the real reason it starts sucking so much ass at range the second the enemy isn't flying perfectly straight. It's supposed to suck, and suck a lot harder, but only in a narrow speed range rather than at all times.

plane being in the way visually isn't really the annoying part anyway, since outside of GRB and I guess sim (where it doesn't apply anyway) it's often easier to see and line up ground target markers against the flat background of your vehicle instead of trying to pick them out from all the other visual clutter on the ground

i think gaijin has a system beyond SBMM where certain people only get put into lobbies with players that, for example, never go after attackers, but it's also dependent on which vehicle you take

in every single match i get as a fighter, half my team will dive after a single wyvern and lose the match for us 90% of the time
or if im in a slow attacker (like a duck) i'll reliably have 5 enemies hone in on me, but if i'm in something like a fw190f8 i can take out like 20 targets and not a single enemy bats an eye, and sometimes they even allow me to just fly up directly behind them and kill them while they're climbing on their way towards the center of the map

How do they even decide when to move vehicles in BR in those cases? Those three are only good to quickly grab the first closest point at the start of the round and then, if you are lucky enough to run away, the best you can do with them is to annoy enemies with potshots if you manage to park your fat ass behind some large pile of rubble.
