Finished solos just in time; also got rank 1 NA Harry just barely. Duos weren't bad at all this time (with the aid of the dork). Overall this season was a little better than the last few with a bit more variety in the meta, Suitcase/HH/TS are still easily the strongest and easiest things to use but they aren't *quite* as dominant anymore.

Also someone I've seen a few times saw I was close to reaching MA and gave me a free win because they were already there... they really didn't have to but it was nice; I added them after to say thank you.

Ooh... generally quite liking the direction of these actually. Incendio was already pretty decent so a small damage buff is nice; just makes it a little more consistent at killing things instead of leaving them at low HP.

Glacius Maxima could be legitimately really good with an almost guaranteed three extra beams against summoners, and same for Acromantula Venom... both of those felt pretty underwhelming most of the time so I am quite happy with that change. Might also allow things that are not Ivy or Whizbang to actually deal with Hagrid Fiendfyre which is otherwise pretty unbeatable. Portkey change I don't really understand; I guess I don't hate it but it's weird.

Voldemort buff is nice and probably needed. McGonagall didn't need the buff though; she's already very annoying in solos because her win condition is literally landing one Inflatus. Maybe she was too weak in duos?

If you land every single spell as Harry with maxed cards you can slightly out-DPS their single button afk spamming. Whizbang McGonagall or Hermione might work too since they do even more DPS, and can also run any of Protego Totalum/Nebulus/Invisibility Cloak. All of those are complicated by the existence of Hagrid companion though because they can randomly move around dodge everything while all their damage autohits you.

I've been reading the web novel Worm (https://parahumans.wordpress.com/) over the last few months; it's very good. I was pretty pleasantly surprised by it because in general I am not really into superhero stuff at all so this is kinda my only exception to that?

I like that all the characters feel real/plausible though, especially with the format of each arc from the MC's perspective being followed by a chapter from someone else's viewpoint... it does a nice job of making sure even the minor characters get interesting development. I'm alllmost done with it by now (it is very long but in a good way, not filler-y) and I think I'll start on the sequel after.

The dueling gameplay is very fun with many different styles and strategies to choose from, and the early story chapters have very stylish presentation, but the high ranks are reserved solely for whales, and people who've been playing for over a year now because of the way card leveling works and the absurd amount of resources it takes to max things out

The game is okay, sometimes interesting events happen.
Many players already have maxed out decks. In modes where there is a ladder and you need to use your own cards, it will be difficult for a new player, but not impossible.
If you're not afraid to spend money, $5 a month is enough to catch up with the rest of the player base.

PVP is only mandatory if you care about achievements, flair, etc.
I would heavily recommend not touching any competitive content in the game because of the players' mindset (they're incredibly toxic, especially playstyle-wise)
Budget decks are kind of a trap, Snape lets you deal with summons, the main threat, but unlevelled you'll struggle, likewise, summons/Bella are fairly accessible, but you just won't win if your levels aren't high enough.
The game is still fun even if you don't engage in those.
I won't lie, I myself am beyond sick of it.
Playing it casually, only for the story and fashion is reasonable, and you shouldn't struggle too much if you can pace your spending.

Well you'll want to do it as you get some decent rewards and complete cheevos by doing it, but you don't need to get THAT high for most of it.
There's even a consumable that lets you keep your points, and win streak in the ranking even after losing for that too.
Budget deck builds do exist yeah, the best known one being Harry Echo decks which stay good even at the very top.

Stupefy is a good card; it's one of the best you can get against Suitcase, Abigail, Grawp, Erumpent, Fire Crab, and Time Turners... probably a few other things I'm forgetting too.

Unfortunately it doesn't quite cut it against Hagrid specifically because the summons don't *die* so he can just Carpe Retractum -> Flipendo them and they'll heal back to full. It does buy some breathing room in the early game before he gets multiple summons on the field though, and even later on it's still the best tool there is against Suitcase.

I would recommend focusing on the current season story, main story, and past season stories. You get lots of rewards and some of the actual story stuff is pretty decent. Do your daily Forbidden Forest runs for gold (only farm echoes after you unlock legendary ones) and progress solo forest exploration as far as you can, as fast as you can (but don't stress about it too much as it is pretty level-gated anyway). Don't worry about the PvP too much; it's mechanically pretty fun in my opinion but the rewards aren't that great and due to card levelling, old players and whales have a big advantage over new people.

If you plan to spend money, the Niffler pass is far and away the most efficient thing you can buy, followed by the magic pass and the one-time 2x bonus on each tier of gem purchase. Avoid anything else unless you're whaling. Ruby Keys, Clockturn Keys, and Epic cards (only ones you will actually use) from the daily shop are generally the best thing to spend orange (semi-premium) gems on; most packs and stuff are a scam. Most of the "big" seasonal gacha events are also a scam, except for Board of Bounty, although if you really want the grand prize from any given one it's generally the only way to have a shot at it. Never ever buy gold except for the periodic Coveted Coffers event, which is very good value (save purple gems from the Niffler pass for this).

Also, join our social club (if the location isn't a problem for you — we are on the Zouwu server); the game prompts you to join one anyway so you might as well.
