Sonic games don't make sense financially anymore since Sonic games used to rely on the same logic as Mega Man games.
Low dev costs, moderate returns on sales.
That's why Sonic got less games in the 10s compared to the 00s. That's why the 20s have been so bare and mostly focused on rereleases and underbaked tech demos.
Frontiers and Shadow generations were carried by the movies.
Video games are too expensive to produce now for Sonic to be a profitable video games franchise.
This is why Sega is relying on AI in a desperate attempt to save the series.

honestly im really coming around on (SOME) of forces' artistic design. i really like metropolis' use of "fake trees" that provide no breathable air, though i do find it odd that most of the "eggman" stages use overwhelmingly cold color palettes, with chemical plant even being frozen over completely. the game uses color pretty poorly overall imo

How will the stories work anyways? Will the next game treat the japanese version of frontiers as canon and treat the english as dub errors like Shadow asking what Chaos Control is in SA2?
Or will the english be the real version because that's what was written first?

Timeline of events for the Frontiers writing process
>Someone at Sonic Team (presumably Kishimoto and/or Ootsu) come up with the general story ideas for the game
>Ian starts writing the English script, he wrote everything in the English version of the base game as far as we know
>Ian proposes to connect the Ancients to Chaos
>Sonic Team accepts Ian's idea
>Sonic Team designs the Ancients to look like Chaos (Ian doesn't know this until after the game comes out, which is why none of the characters acknowledge the resemblance in game)
>Ian's writing is translated to Japanese
>Kishimoto is dissatisfied with Ian's writing, he doesn't think the current script will resonate with Japanese audiences, but trusts Ian for the western release
>Kishimoto rewrites the script for the main cutscenes (but not the Egg Memos and idle dialogue), changing almost everything
>the cutscenes are animated to match Ian's dialogue, they don't make sense with Kishimoto's

Shadow is immortal. We know this. He seems to live at least 200 years into the future, making him at least 250 years old. He likely will live for much longer than that.
The rest of the cast is not immortal. Blobian lifespans don't seem to differ much from the lifespan of humans, so let's say they've got 80 years in them.

Let's say, hypothetically, Shadow moves on from Maria. He marries Rouge, Amy, or whoever you want him with. Let's just use Rouge as an example for now.
He finds new love in Rouge. But over time he starts to notice the wrinkles form under Rouge's eyes, how her kicks are losing strength. They go to a restaurant and the waiter asks if he's her son. The two start getting disgusted looks, since all others see is a teen boy and his elderly wife. Rouge starts forgetting the things she experienced with Shadow when she was young. More and more, Shadow needs to help her with her own self-care, until she can no longer function by herself. She's admitted to a nursing home where he watches her fade away right before him, helpless to stop her and unable to join her in her descent into death. She passes away with her frail little hand in his.

Two people he loved are gone and dead. Now what? Do you want him to remember what he had with Rouge, effectively recreating his situation with Maria, pining for someone lost forever?
