They are different but are based on the same logical principle at the core. Any written work can be translated into any human langauge accurately. It all depends on what level of engagement with media are you at. You obviously can translate most basic plot and interactions in the VN, you can also convey the themes of the VN on a broader scale just fine. Some people only care about that, for them translations are just like original.
If you like and onions out at details, there's no shot you can translate it all. Yes, Japanese language is that unique. There is zero chance English reader of Danganronpa 2 understands that name Izuru Kamukura is a Dies Irae reference, even if he's the most hardcore Dies Irae fan ever. Neither will the translator unless he's also Dies Irae fan, and even then he won't have any way to convey it in a way that English reader can understand. You are free to try and translate that name to English accurately preserving the nuance and prove me wrong

When they're talking in the trial sections there's no pausing or going back (until the scene ends, then it replays after giving a hint) so your OCR+MTL (I don't know if these sections are hookable) might be too slow at some points to capture a line before it moves on to the next. You also need to click certain words/phrases they say to make rebuttals, they're highlighted but when there's multiple on the screen and limited time before it moves on it'd probably be tricky to figure out which one to click unless you just click through all of them to see all the dialogue.
