Atlantis, Ys and Lost Land are totes real edition.

Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher.
The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep.
Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game.

what's more important for EA Agartha, +2 Precision for 5 total Precision (+3 Far Shot) for my Stone Hurlers; +1 Cold Resistance to complete my set of elemental resistances; +1 Attack Skill (for a total of +2 and to make Blood Surge more viable?) for my Melee Ancients?

what a question. Because the Stone Hurlers can do 40+ damage per rock throw. While the Olm sits in the back and keeps the target paralyzed (granted I have seen the supposed "Hurler beats giant monster before it retaliates" argument fall short when you realize Olms can do the exact same thing, I saw an army of 100 Olms perma-stun a flanking Dragon and then Drain it to death

precision hardly matters unfortunately. Due to the way RNG is, unless a target is right next to you, a unit with 20prec still has a deviation of 1 on both x and y axis for a unit 10 tiles away.
It's why the olms are viewed so much better, 100prec attacks and spells absolutely reign over things that have to hit at range (say, casting Incinerate, a guaranteed 18AN damage, vs Flares 25AP if it hits (it wont)).

as well, the limb hit system really makes the hurlers feel lackluster. 'wow, he lobbed a 50 damage boulder and it actually hit an enemy, oh, but it was just an arm hit, only 5 damage'
which sucks, because the image of a hundred boulders raining down on the enemy is just fucking hilarious.

Would it be possible to make it a β€œsize 6” attack. Where instead of it being AoE 1, it just doesn’t target bodyparts and does full damage to 1 target? Ideally that would only work for size 5 and bellow and use the limb system for size 6 and above, but that’s way more advanced that just making a ranged weapon equivalent of Eyeseeker, that prioritises body hits

In terms of ver-all strategy you end up having to optimize for mobility and sheer doomstack mulching efficiency at the hardest AI setting. That's not a terrible thing to optimize for. The turn to turn tactics vs AI is very un-human though since you end up with dumb shit like using PD and sieges to mind control the AI.

They've got some god-tier crosspaths but mostly in very low levels, so unless you wanna play path gacha with your StR cap only and empower to get some boosters I would go for a rainbow/narrow rainbow tendie. I wouldn't really go for any specific blesses but you can use your incidental bless points for minor buffs to your oathbound since they're pretty good as a defensive lineholder.

I feel like luck is too expensive of a bless to go for. I just go +1 order on imprisoned and get max non incarnate. Righteous wrath is a must imo, so is 5 undying. Get all the good non incarnate stuff like unbreakable, blood surge, maybe blur/heroism. Your priority is not Oak because it adds nothing to your roster.
Research alt4 for quickness and group barkskin. 3-4 mages (half bear half wolf) together with a group of 5 bodyguards each that stand still and cast spells should be able to fight a bigger group.
You must get to Evo7 and Con7 for Wind of Death and Ring of returning for the Crows. That's your final win con.

This might be a retarded question but should you just pick whatever pretender you think is cool on a nation you think is cool and try to make it work? I basically understand at this point the pros and cons of something like taking a litttle human vs a fountain or a rock and the various imprisonment options. kit them out with different items and see what works
then try doing the same thing with elves (harder since they are very squishy against AI hordes)
the only thing you can't test against AI is counter thugging but if you understand the combat system and read item descriptions you should be able to figure out how to kill most enemy thugs with your own

Look for good stats, magic, special abilities, etc. Ideally you want someone with good buffing paths that can slug it out as well. Golems are a good example, if you give them a decent weapon to fix their Attack and Defense and some armor, they can handle a lot on their own.

Everytime I try to understand thugging, it's stuff like 'this unit can beat 6 PD', 'this unit can beat 11 PD' and I don't understand how that ever works in an actual game. It seems so fragile that a random site-searching mage will be the end of it.

it's indeed fragile, basically risk and reward, counter-raiding games, magic-phase movement, stealth, rituals like seeking arrow, assassination rituals, pd dumps, etc.
how expensive and how much gear and how many gems do you choose to put on your thugs? what damage will they do relative to the risk of losing them? where do you put them, and can they stealth away? etc.

this is one reason why wraith lords with an amulet of antimagic are popular in some mp games for thugging. they are immortal, so as long as they don't get soulslayed or enslaved or something, if they die, they just come back a few turns later and you only lost those few turns of availability, whatever afflictions they got, and the amulet of antimagic. and the amulet of antimagic decreases the risk of getting soulslayed or enslaved

other popular items are rings of returning for scs or expensive thugs, typically with battlefield spells like wind of death or with heavily layered defenses or summoning

thugs can also be put into armies, for instance for bolstering frontlines or for handling special enemies. for instance, armornegating weapons like eyecatcher, duskdagger or gate cleaver can be strong against stationary pretender with high protection. just be aware that the frontline of a battlefield with many mages on both sides is dangerous for a thug, and pretenders can have paths and research that makes them lethal in melee. hand of death for instance deals 40+5/level irresistable armornegating magic damage in melee, dealing 80 damage at d10, with 50% casting time. keeping army thugs on hold x5 and attack closest may be advisable, depending on the specifics

Thug or SC is only a matter of how much investment you put into that specific chassis for an expected RoI. Take my Hashmal with Vamp wp, add a frost brand and vine shield and it can theoretically take 100 pd or an entire army as long as there are no mages in the province. What would you call it then, thug or SC? Or say a cheaper Chassis like a Jann Emir/Jinn, fully kitted with anti SC gear, every slot filled, designed to kill SCs, pretenders and the like, but can die to a small army and some mage support. You only have to know the limits of your Chassis to thug efficiently for their role.

What about a game where you can only use Thugs/SC to War and Expand? No Province Defense, no non-commander support (that isn’t combat summons/items). You duel for Forts, if the fort owner loses he must delete the fort and back off the province.
Not sure about Capitals, could go for β€œProphet/Pretender duel, if owner loses he becomes the winner’s vassal and must help him in future wars”

This does sound more like a Hotseat/friendgroup game than a blitz though, since there’s a lot of rules in place

i think fomoria is just generally good. they have glamour, stealth, cap-only units with magic weapons that are decent at expanding, they have a really easy time going underwater, they have size 9 giants, they have recruitable sc chassis, they have nemedian sorceresses, they have high hp air mages, and a decent research mage, they have national spells like dance of the morrigans, and access to 6 paths, and morrigans are sacred

muspelheim is generally strong, as long as you can keep your muspel giants from having significant attrition and you can recruit a lot of them with a fair bless. muspel giants are expensive but have both good protection and magic weapons. and their protection does not decrease in cold lands, and they have snow movement. they have recruitable sc chassis, excellent path diversity with 7 paths only missing earth and water, and good combat mages. the magic weapons are more significant than some may anticipate. a hard counter to niefel giants are something as basic as dispossessed spirits, illusions, phantasms, air elementals, and most cheap, ethereal units. one attack per square with a weapon that is not magical, is painful. muspel giants are way more effective at dealing with these threats, more easily allowing for all kinds of other blesses including imprisoned ones

that argument is not without merit. some nations have a much easier time getting back from a lot of attrition or losses of units than others. cap-only giants, especially those that cost 130+g and two holy points, tend to be difficult to mass

i think there was one game where the muspelheim player took 8 dom score. i thought that was a bit much, but as i recall, it turned out to have been a really smart decision by him, since 4 giants instead of 3 giants per turn makes a large difference both early and late game, at least if one has success with avoiding attrition on the giants

conversely, fighting effectively against nations with units that are relatively few in number and also not easily replaceable, can involve focusing on causing attrition. and spells like curse can hurt more than otherwise on such units

ma ulm has more or less 2 paths, probably the lowest in the game, the remaining two are too unreliable to get, much less mass

ea mekone has 4 paths iirc, but they cannot get a small human pretender, so getting wider path access is more expensive, and site searching (and finding indie mages for greater path diversity) suffers from it. and they have no poison resistance, no nature mages, more or less no sacred units, and no death mages either

having only nature on the pretender, on a primarily living nation without death paths, is a bit on the vulnerable side, but i agree that it is likely a very good idea. both in terms of poison, disease, supplies, etc. regeneration buffs and items would also have been great for mekone. if one wants indie nature mages, ensuring the pretender is awake or dormant and can walk around for site searching, might be helpful. but an awake or dormant titan is on the more expensive side and hurts scales

I went imprisoned Enchantress and had balanced bless/scales
Bless: shock/fire/cold res; reinvig, undying x5 + enchanted blood, blood surge, Heroism x3
Scales: Dom6 Heat2 Prod2 Growth2 Drain2.

My idea was to fuck around early with my Knights, and use the scales to set up a lategame. Drain was really cool because Monks are immune and I monkmaxxed all game (see research tab in subsequent posts :^)
Retrospectively I was probably way stronger during the early and midgame than I thought and could have been more aggro, still it was super fun to turtle research with 3 globals!

I spawned on a Turkey looking peninsula and had river borders to C'tis in the northeast and a massive river as border with Shinuyama and T'ien Chi to the southwest. This river had only one chokepoint province and taking this province won me the game. My first mistake as early as Turn 2 was buying Mercs to take UW provinces in my capcircle, because I thought I needed them for ressources. After I saw that the UW province was in R'lyeh's capcircle I messaged him that I needed it for knight production and outed me as a massive noob, because as you probably all are aware, Land forts cannot draw from UW provinces and vice versa.
At first R'lyeh wanted to send me gold for the province, but he probably soon thought "why pay this noob when he makes mistakes like this" and told me to fuck off.

I realized End of Year 0 that without good water access and with 2 UW nations (R'lyeh north and Ys East) and C'tis as neighbours, I needed that chokepoint-province to break into the mainland to the West either by war with T'ien Ch'i or due to a cave entrance in that chokepoint-province.
I took the chokepoint and most of my peninsula (with 2 thrones) by Summer of Year 1, I also got a treelord staff during year 1 which helped my cast Mother oak without boosting or climbing.
T'ien and me had a Mexican fort standoff at the chokepoint, during which I gobbled up the cavelayer with 11 provinces and a throne, which gave me access to 3 thrones (5 to win).
Purposely, I did not claim it to not seem like the big threat since I already had the only global up. I don't know why T'ien did not expand into the caves because he also had access to it, but I had the lucky situation that I went into the cave FROM my border chokepoint, and he would have had to divert an Army from his side of the chokepoint to do so.

End of year 1, Ys took my trying to push their filthy kind back into the water (where I completely underestimated Morvarc'h knights and embarrassed myself) as aggression and attacked me with said OP sacreds.
Just in time I came to an agreement with T'ien who probably wasn't too happy himself parking his army at the chokepoint and we signed a NAP.
My glorious unicorn knights swiftly took care of the slimy villains and Ys went AI.

Not long after R'lyeh started to act upon his threat of "no friendship allowed" and mindraped my coastal Provinces with occasional raids, which I could not defend against, because he could use an inland sea to regroup and refocus, while my troops ran in circles.
R'lyeh also took my cave and this was my only out to meet them in battle.
He massed meteorite guards and Illichuds and I thought his main chudstack in the caves where I pinned it in a fort after a nicely predicted move.
I won the fight - but in another embarrassment I cast iron bane without knowing his frogs had magic armor. (I massed Chu sidhes and Longbows with my knights)
R'lyeh went AI while leaving Loboniggers on my forts, and I retook the cave, my forts and monkmaxxed for my 2nd global: Riches from beneath.
I cast it just because I could, and ecause I was Ressource bottlenecked on my Cap and this global gave me 1 sacred more per turn, lol.
I did not know until the end just how obscenely rich I was compared to the other players.

Despite me being rich and having 2 globals, Ermor shaped up tp be the threat and the last 2 other remaining human players, T'ien Ch'i and C'tis were both under heavy assault.
C'tis had no throne in his swamps so I completely ignored him. T'ien had one throne next to my chokepoint (always ripe for the taking), and the other thrones were in the mainland accessible through my caves and thorugh CPU Shinuyama.
T'ien told me he had no shot at winning anymore because of Ermor and Shinuyama, but being inexperienced, I took it with a grain of salt and only went through the caves and through Shinuyama with a medium force.

Ermor had 3 thrones like me, and also pushed for the win - in a truly close race I breached the fort of one of the remaining thrones 1 turn before Ermor arrived. For the final fight I sortied and reinforced with my prophet, while simultaneously taking T'iens undefended throne with my God and the main mage stack from the chokepoint.
Winning this fight against Ermor would win me the game on the following turn. I even cast Wild Hunt to maybe snipe his Prophet to delay him in case I would not win the fight.

This last stand was kind of a dissapointment, my Army had no high tier mage and Ermors Army was only a fraction of his troopsize, 700 skellies with a few high tier mages. (his main stack of 4000 was also just a few turns away, but he probably knew he needed to act quickly)
I armed my measly 7 mothers of avalon with most of my gems and sadly fucked up the Chorus completely because only Relief and Howl went up, I wanted 3 more battlefield enchantments - apparently I am still too bad at scripting.
Funny thing is, Ermor seemed to be mainly afraid of my monks, and only really cast Protection of the Sepulchre (+1 magic res battefieldwide) and spammed earth Elementals.
I anticipated Darkness or thugs - or just about anything to counter my knights, but they carved through the skellies like butter, while sylphs flanked rear and a lucky firedrake Merc buy blasted the fuckers through my fire resistant unicorn riders.
I claimed both thrones on the next turn, and ascended to the heavens, long live Man and the Tower of Avalon!

They were easy to win with in the domg format, where 80% of the players suck or went ai. They usually just rolled over everybody in the midgame spamming iron blizzard and just having better units

their national communions also don't result in the deaths of their mages

invulnerability
mistform (ends it for everyone)

ethereal is a massive 75% miss chance without mweaps. units will typically approximately last 4x longer. if the armies are otherwise equally matched, except a good portion of one side is ethereal, this is massive

invulnerability, especially with protection, can make protection so high that barely any damage gets through, or at least is heavily reduced

mweaps on low damage is less impressive than on high damage attacks, but can still help

imagine a horde of ethereal undead. or illusions. without mweaps, it will take forever to get through

imagine ethereal giants with good protection and regen. how will you overcome the regen?

imagine a dracolich with high invulnerability and fear. how will you deal enough damage before your units flee in terror or get killed?

imagine a lot of lion warriors marching at you. disregard this, they are arguably op and will probably kill you regardless, but maybe you can cause more attrition on them

Mweps is a very specific bless that counters a lot of issues you have lategame, but for most of the time you want a bless that helps you either early or midgame. And I would argue that regular magic can help against ethereal things in lategame anyway.

Is Ys’s biggest weakness their crippling Merrow deficiency and Morgen dependency? As well as the fact that said Morgans, while comparable to Man’s Unicorn Knights, lack both any form of elemental resistance as well as Recuperation? You’re right. While it does breathe fire and has fire hair, it is not a magic being/elemental like the fire snake and summer lion.
The fire drake and firebird have 15 fire resistance so it makes sense the Morcarc’h should have 15 as well. But I don’t understand why it doesn’t have heat aura, its hooves, tail and mane are on fire. I also don’t get why Morgen knights don’t have fire resistance. What, their hair and clothes don’t catch fire? Their armor doesn’t bake their skin?

Hunter spiders only need a mid tier bless to be worth using, outside of their terrible matchups. Their terrible matchups being: Size 6+ units that hit hard, size 2-3 units with exceptional strength or are very cost effective, and magic save spells like soul slay or the anti animal nature spells. Shit that relies on illusions or high defense like human sized cavalry and elves get mulched by spiders. Or cheap units that can't reliably chip past the armor or break out of webs like most pd.
Larger + Hardskin makes them an insanely beefy lineholder in big fights, and very small parties of them can easily clear pd. They expand super fast too if your bless is awake.
You don't want to tank your scales too hard for the bless because thats how you kill yourself via upkeep. You need to hit the sweet spot in the middle.
They also seem like a very good candidate for taking obfuscate, which pretty much turns them into beefed up white centaurs with a web and poison attack and super high map move. And their spy mage will get bonus stealth too.
You can also maybe stack some strength onto the bless to try and help the poison attack pierce higher armor, since the poison effect is really hard to resist. That probably isnt super efficient but larger is worth it for the bonus hp anyway

I have a Man-Eater expander with Hard skin Ench blood in MAx payne. Spiders just mulch through indies given enough density, like a squad of 8-10 spiders every 2 turns lead by a Voice. Man eater can clear within dominion easily, and once you have Alt2 for stone skin you can expand anywhere. Don't even have to dip into anything but misf2, still production 2 to mass the hoplites, magic 2 cold 1, and neutral on all scales. I'm still finding a buff routine for the chaffs with the witch doctors and sorcs, for it has so many low paths.

I don't really like the idea of weapon blesses for them, especially if you are planning to summon riderless sacred spiders too. Their attack density is just bad.
For their bless you want to either make them last longer or help them clear chaff.
I think fire shield could be pretty decent on them, since it prevents them getting countered by swarm and illusion spam, and would also help them raid pd.
Heat aura could maybe work if you are going with a buffing strategy with alt or enchant magic, but I've been unimpressed with that bless on other beefy cavalry in the past. I tried it with MA Pyrene before, and they even have recruitable fire res troops to combo with it.

I don't play elf nations much and I've only played Helheim once but here's my thoughts:

Building a pretender for air boosters is fine. Air is hard to boost.

You don't need a storm to summon valkyries. You just need to cast it with two gems. You can boost a path for one spell by one level by using an extra gem. Your vanjarls are A2, spell is A3 and costs 1 gem, so spend 2 gems.

Far Caster is good but Thunderstrike is your spam evocation and that already has 100 range. Also your guys aren't afraid to "cast and advance".

You're spending a lot of bless points on things that don't make your units better at killing stuff. That's pinning a lot of hope on Blood Surge. What if you're up against somebody you can't kill easily, like giants or genies? Then blood surge isn't even on and you've just got a base stat line.

My expansion went fairly well and after the end of the first year I saw that I bordered Abysia, Uruk, and Mictlan.

Abysia wanted friendly relations which I had no problem with since fighting high prot fire resistant heavy infantry seemed like it would be a bad time for me. The river and heat scales also created an especially chokey border between us.

Uruk and Mictlan went to war with each other and Mictlan sent me a message encouraging me to attack Uruk. I opted to stay out of it since there was still a ton of unclaimed territory to my north. I was expecting to find another cap there, but just ended up at Uruk's southern border with a small border with Ashdod to the west.

At this point I realized that there were enough thrones in or next to my territory that I could just claim them and win.

I pinged the closest thrones with scouts and it looked like the throne with the fairies and fey would be easiest to take.

I spammed it with fire elementals and claimed the throne of gaia which was very nice as my scales had neutral growth.

I also got lucky and managed to pick up a treelord staff from one of the fairy queens which coupled with some indie jaguar tribe gave me nature access. Summoning trolls tribes also gave me death access.

The next throne I went after was guarded by an Earth king and a bunch of trolls and earth elementals. Flaming crossbows bolts, fire evos, and fire elementals made it a fairly easy throne to clear.

This province also had sites for gnomes and adepts of the iron order which gave me earth and glamour access.

This was the throne of the artificer. I remember a post in the thread trying to encourage everyone else to team up against me, but I guess nothing came of it and no one attacked me.

After Uruk defeated Mictlan, I considered attacking him, but a buidup of Abysians on the border made me paranoid and I ended up turning back.

They left presumably to fight Ermor, and I got lazy and decided to focus on thrones.

Diligent site searching paid off and I had a healthy gem income especially of fire, air, nature, and glamour. I ended up casting Eternal Pyre and summoning a bunch of harbingers, choir angels, trolls and blue caps.

I ended up burning a ton of fire gems taking the next throne trying to get fire ward up on my army, but aside from some red cows trampling some of my crossbowmen and mages the battle went well.

I waited for enchantment 8 and thunder fend to take the next throne because of all shock damage from the storm drakes and air elementals. I scripted my witch hunters to cast hidden flame to try and minimize friendy fire which seemed to work out pretty well. I also had blue caps to take the iron dragon down with shatter.

At this point I only needed two more thrones to end the game, one of which would require crossing a frozen river which was only possible due to Ermor's cold dominion pushing out so hard.

Surely at this point it was obvious that I was throne rushing. I expected to start seeing armies from Abysia, Uruk, and Ashdod on my border, but no response ever came. I empowered and Icthyid mage in water to cast wolven winter on the province on my side of the river to make sure I could cross.

As my army moved towards the frozen wastes of Ermor I remembered a post in the thread mentioning Murdering Winter. Then it hit me. There was no response, because there didn't need to be one. My mostly human army full of old human mages was sitting in a cold 3 province.

Across there river were roughly 500 abysians ready to mop up what would be left of my tattered forces. In one masterful stroke my army would be crushed and my throne rush foiled. Abysia had claimed a throne province which contained a site that gave him mages that could potentially be W3 and evocation researched high enough to cast Murdering Winter.

I desperately scripted as many fire mages as I could to cast fire fend hoping at least some of them would survive. The trolls and draconians would survive the winter and the angels were coming in from a different province so they would be unaffected, but there was no guarantee how much else would make it across the river.

In desperation I scripted my Harbingers to cast wrathful skies and thunder fend hoping that along with army regen it would be enough even in the absence of human soldiers.

I had fallen into a deadly trap.

The last throne was cleared fairly easily except my knights got caught up on a bunch of will o wisps for most of the battle.

This happens to me in every game I win, so it's best to get used to it. /domg/ are very bad at coordinating against a threat in time, or mustering enough effort to bother if they aren't contenders themselves. The only very close games I've had were in blitzes where everyone was committed to it in the moment.

I did manage to pick up a site from Mictlan from my first war and even then I saw Marignon was far ahead of everyone. I was a rump state, so I messaged Ind and Abyisa (the second place runners) suggesting they might want to do something about it. I then spent the rest of the game messing around, cleaning up indie attacks and failing to take a throne. I had a small border with Marignon and I was way behind him, so there was no way I was going to attack with other others dog piling him.

Hard to say without knowing what nations are involved, what armies, etc. Dominions generally favors the defender, though, specially later into the game. See if there's some spells or rituals that you can use to slow or stop the advance of one of the players. If you can threaten with making the attack too expensive, they might back off and then you can focus on the other one.

Assuming you arent the size of them both combined or bigger, you should all in your army on the one you think you have the best chance of winning a battle against. If you win that decisively you've either at least bought time on that front, or may have leverage to make peace.
You'll lose provinces fast on the other side, but if you still have an army you could take them back if you split the coalition. Make just one member suffers while the other one gets a free ride. People dont like being in unfair partnerships

Larger is better as a general bless that also helps your mages and your troops. It's always active too to help against magic phase attacks. Obviously nice for sacred communion nations.
The bonus map move can be pretty clutch too if it hits a nice break point, like bumping a mage to 16 map move or something.
Also its non incarnate, so its better for imprisoned builds duh.
It's really good on certain nations. I've taken it on MA Xib (in dom 5), La Pyth and Shinuyama and didn't regret it at all.

The +3 strength also feels nice on sacreds you need to deal damage for some secondary effect
see MA Machakas god broods. If larger, it becomes 18 piercing and if that gets through defense and does any damage, it instantly slaps 35 poison damage on top, a death sentence to anything that doesn't regenerate.

the fangs attack is good, but also a bit specialized, a lot of units have 25 poison resist, reducing 35 to 5, by (35-25)*(50-25)/50 = 10/2 = 5. and the fangs attack isn't magical
on the other hand, the enlargement does increase a lot of other stats as well, and the increased frequency of death poison is definitely good

how to deal with other enemies? flaming and envenomed arrows on pygmy archers, fire in a jar from dwarven hammers on sorcerers and phoenix power, etc.? venomous death is good, but just more poison damage. sorcerers don't seem like good evocation spammers, and there aren't really any other choices for evocation spammers

access to all research boosters except air. and plenty of cheap glamour mages for holding dreamstones, and dwarven hammers for discount

the black sorcerer might be a good lategame thug, fire for phoenix pyre, earth for summon earth power and forging hammers for cheaper gear, maybe soul vortex with a staff and gem. but the black sorcerer is slow-to-recruit and is needed for other tasks as well, and the second shape has few equipment slots, and phoenix pyre probably isn't as good in dom6 as in dom5 if it ends after enough turns pass

nature and glamour is a nice crosspath for rituals

maybe: handle the early and midgame with spiders, archers, and mages buffing the archers. and then have some lategame plan through pretender. maybe black sorcerer thugs. and exploit glamour magic, spies, effigy of war and stealth here and there

I had considered a super spider heavy build where you recruit one spider sorc every turn with maxed out dom (it's a dom/20 chance, so each turn each spider sorc has a 50% chance in max dom) but... they're old age, so by the first winter, many of them get diseased.

The biggest thing Machaka really, truly needs? A pretender that can cast Gift of Health, they must be able to reach N6, otherwise you get full wiped by anything that causes disease. That is Machakas hard counter. Disease.

almost all undead have 25+ poison resist, only shadow vestals don't. longdead spam is common
only two inanimates do not have 25+ poison resist, the pretender chassis oracle and sacred geyser. inanimates include elementals and illusions (though illusions only have 1 hp)
the paths that can summon such units in combat with relatively little research include fire, water, earth, air (elementals), death (undead) and glamour (illusions). and nature mages have buffs to protect against poison as well as regen buffs
35 poison damage is very good, since it does still affect even 25 poison resist units, and is a huge extra chunk of armornegating damage against those without resist. but counters are common

Right, but undead enemies aren't an issue to kill they're just an issue to kill en masse. 35 poison damage works very well for dealing with high prot or high HP targets, which undead are typically not. A single target lethal attack will always be countered by spam of course.

se'ir and zealots both want their strength buffed a lot, and its not even the worst thing in the world for gibbors as it can help them more reliably chunk heavy prot. Righteous wrath on a gylph is extremely affordable, and you really only need to sink 12 or so bless points in to make them very killy

Outside of resistances, I wouldn't worry too much about increasing their survivability

i acknowledge that the ranking list is quick and bad, but apart from gold cost, lanka also never has good income, worsening the issue
white ones have 3 attacks per square, kalas have 2. white ones have higher defense and more units per square. white ones are cheap enough that blesses like righteous wrath can be considered. kalas' defenses are so poor (protection, defense, 2 units per square, not that high hp) that blesses like regeneration is a trap on them unless hellbless or used for other purposes like sabbaths, and i mentioned not considering other sacred units

the goldcost of kalas is near that of knights of the chalice, and knights have significantly better protection and defense and movement speed and 4 attacks per square. and if the horse is included, more hp as well

not sure, i might've been mistaken about the power of jaguar warriors for la mictlan

one major problem is that la has many more nations with decent archers than ea, and jaguar warriors have poor protection. thus, to survive, one could try to put some sort of bless against missiles on them. but all of those blesses are incarnate. and thus one could try awake or dormant. but then one also has to deal with lack of magical weapons, and weapon blesses like solar weapons aren't free. and then one also has to deal with the sacreds' okayish damage. where extra strength, larger (except for ozelotls) and righteous wrath could be good if going the strength route, and with one of the more expensive weapon blesses if going the weapon bless route. it becomes expensive and difficult to make it work and cover different bases

i'd be tempted to see if the below could work. the jaguars are really cheap relative to their total hp, and assuming that wounded shape doubles hp from undying, it should make their hp even more cost-efficient. and it also helps all others sacreds, including mages and monsters. once awake, the jaguar warriors might become cost-efficient against regular human archers due to blood vengeance and too much hp. expansion could be difficult, though, and it may be way too vulnerable against any opponents with regen, good magic resistance, or hellblesses. expand, scout neighbors and their blesses, and try to survive or win first war using whatever means one can. the late game should have plenty of options of summons, both in conjuration and blood, with tarts, vampires, and national summons

doing a Celtic/Anglo only Nation One Age game, as Marveni and let me tell you something! "all your units are technically heavy infantry" falls flat when the enemy has actual heavy cavalry with an Area attack that goes through Invulnerable. Morvarc'hs are pretty nasty in the hands of the AI, it knows it only needs 10-ish to cut through 100+ armies of infantry
this wouldn't be so bad if I COULD FIND ANY Nature Magic Sites, but no luck yet
