total war died around attila when they fucked up auto-resolve so bad you could beat any army in the game by walking around with 4 20 stacks of peasants, after that they simply gave up on fixing the auto-resolve and every subsequent game is playing in a way that you fight the first 2 battles of the campaign and then you can safely auto-resolve all the other fights for the remainder of the campaign UNLESS you're playing on legendary but here's the catch, on legendary you don't win auto-resolves and you also don't win real battles unless you're using exploits and abusing bugs or the AI, in the end the game is simply never fun, in any possible way, the last 2 good total wars and probably the only ones worth playing are shogun 2 and medieval 2, this is a truth nuke, I am right and you can't refute it because you know it's true.

A solid 10% of my battles in this last Malakai campaign have been my generic dwarf lord humilliating Skarbrand whenever he tries to swim to Norsca while I focus on capturing useful actually useful settlements.

If you play Miao either confederate or take the bastion settlements ASAP because the chaos factions are a massive pain in the ass to chase out if they get past it
Theres a building you can construct in the Bastion settlements that reduces upkeep by insane amounts, combine that with other upkeep reduction from research and you can get essentially free armies garrisoning the wall
I'd reccomend taking out Puppets of Misrule when feasible because they'll generally be the biggest thread coming from that direction unless the Evervirgin shows up, which he sometimes does
After that I like to scour Cathay of dark elves, rats, liggers, vamps, and even Gelt. Once Cathay is secure you can pretty much go anywhere you want
Read what the harmony mechanic does, as its the only faction mechanic you really need to keep track of from province to province, the compass is just "pick a direction and receive buffs" every now and then and the caravans are a good way to make money early on but they kinda become irrelevant late game

Arbaal isn't bad in the early game because anyone who starts near him is naturally good at dealing with chaosmanii, but he will invariably rise to power and become a problem for anyone who gets remotely close to him later on
the only thing that makes skarbrand better than skulltaker is there is more space for him to fuck around in, he does suck depending on faction though

Ogre Kingdoms, Bloodletters and Marauders cant do much to Ogre units, Gnoblar Trappers become useful for once since they can actively slow you down even further than you already were, Chaos Warriors of Khorne get cleaned up by artillery and Leadbelchers, Blood for the Blood God as an ability doesnt proc often against an Ogre focused army, the option is to spam Khornigors but they actually get cleaned up by Sabretusks as does the rest of their early game infantry and Chaos Warriors if you flank them. Gonna need higher tiered, expensive units like Bloodthirsters, Wrathmongers, Soul Grinders and Skullcrushers so they can start putting a dent in you if youre playing as Ogres

I was very excited about Pharaoh announcement. Mostly because it was the Bronze Age, since it was like the only time period that I would be interested in for a historical title. Everything else was done or boring. Yet as they were announcing stuff my excitement grew smaller and smaller. Everything seemed very bland and uninspiring. It led me to never getting the game in the end. Should I wait for a sale and buy it now or is it still not worth it?

Pharaoh is SOVL now after the Dynasties update, is has its issues but if you like the bronze age, being interesting isn't one of them. As far as total war games go, there's a lot of attention put into how the game "feels" overall. The main issues in that regard mainly comes down to the small scale and limitations of the setting.
I would recommend it if you're interested, it has a lot of unique mechanics and feels pretty modern for the most part, the battles in particular are very enjoyable because of lethality, weather changes, firing modes, and a few other things
the unit diversity is limited at first until you expand because it's somewhat region-dependant, but in the late game you can mix and match different cultures which is a lot of fun
the game is abandoned however, so there are bugs and oversights but they aren't anything game-breaking

I like the bronze age because it supposedly had women walking around with their tits out. I have no interest in half naked spearmanii fighting half naked axemanii. we are not the same.

no that would be shit because it would ruin the time scale. historical games need to be at least 4 turns per year. 30 x 4 is 120 which is around the typical tw campaign completion length. if you move the start date back to say 1521 then it would take 388 turns for the war to even start. adding the new world would also totally ruin the map scale. the idea is that central europe would be the size of the soihammer 1 map. if you make the whole map the size of empire's minus india then you are back to empire sized regions where germany is like 5 provinces and takes 3 turns to walk across.

The idea that CA have in them the technical expertise and know-how about making a good TW40K game is laughable, I have yet to see a good map where the terrain is properly exploitable for strategic or tactical maneuvers, where a proper hill or a canyon hides your cavalry or a rocky formation provides a proper spot for your artillery (the rocky formations now blocks artillery movement near its slop and literally blocks shots with invisible walls) or a siege with proper walls that can hold artillery pieces and are not like a digital lego where regiments are clipped into a position, or where walls can be properly breached and don't leave that half-crumbled piece of wall obstructing shots between wall breaches.
It's time to be realistic and understand that the only reason we love this game is because it's Warhammer, it has addicting rpg elements and it's somewhat okay in its gameplay and it also serves as a placeholder for mods to improve upon, but the game in itself is actually incredibly mediocre, like a genuine 6/10. CA just doesn't have good professionals capable of developing a good game, it's sad and brutal to say but it's the proven reality.

As a POG in an artillery unit I had two formations a week, one for Field Day and one on Friday afternoon for liberty.
The grunts had way more when they were in garrison, essentially just to make sure they weren't getting hammered during the "work day". I was in Japan so this was essentially all the time because getting permission to go out to the training area was a pain in the ass due to the Japanese being dickheads about using the area.
Maybe they're an afterthought in the Army but in the Marine Corps you'd get your ass beat if you weren't there on time.

let's be completely real here, I'm not saying I have confidence in ca, but when you look at the big picture the gameplay could potentially be the only redeeming part of a tw 40k. if you look at how gw handled nuln ironsides or how they refuse to let ca add more vampire coast it's extremely likely that they will be trying to sabotage the game with their retardation. I think it's almost certain that the starting roster will be limited to things that exist in the current edition and I wouldn't be surprised if they pull "no model = not appearing in the game."

I can only imagine that most 40k fans who are looking forward to a tw game only played dawn of war years ago and don't actually pay attention to what gw is doing to the series today. if you're going into this expecting tacticalmanii and devestatormanii you're in for a real shock.
