this is just kinda how BF works in general innit, you don't really get hard punished by range differences in V very often though and every class in the game gets a one-use fast heal so if you break line of sight you can very quickly be fighting fit again

like every BF a lot of guns stay shit until you upgrade them too. many guns go from dogshit to great once they're fully upgraded.
also remember that recoil patterns get more controllable the more still you are, crouching, not moving, etc

Pacific Storm is one of the most boring maps I've ever played. The naval combat amounts to the US team getting deploy boats and they either get mowed down or there's no back and forth or actual fighting with boats/ground forces. It's boring for the defenders because the only thing to do is take out the planes, and its boring for attackers because you have to commit and work with your squad (they won't) to advance up the beaches, otherwise you go back to being 500m away from the enemy, and not even snipers are going to bother taking potshots at you. Rotterdam sucks dick because it turns into just infantry lone wolves, Provence is so poorly designed it may as well be Iberian Offense and commits many of the same sins. Twisted Steel is a shit gimmick worse than Giant's Shadow, Devastation is Rotterdam 2.0.

I think they should release the gun workshop as its own programme with every gun for me to obsess over until release. Like what Spore did with the Creature Creator.

compared to what though, because I mostly remember BFV's maps for having a nice amount of flanks and generally a good amount of elevation differences to use as cover and shit

BF1 and 4's maps are largely defined for me by literally map-wide sightlines and extremely flat level geometry where the literal ONLY way to maneuver is spamming smokes because otherwise it's a turkey shoot

I can't kill a single player and I'm getting killed like it's nothing. One of the maps is a sniper fest. I keep getting shot from 5 miles away.
In the others, enemies can come from literal anywhere. There's no safe place and is unpredictable from where they will come.
And obviously if I'm looking left they will come from the right...

This is a real complication with FPS games and crossplay and its a growing issue I've seen for a mainly widely praised "solution" to uniting playerbases.
PC FPS games play mostly between all different ranges, they usually play at a mid range, with longer ranges being possible because of the precision of the mouse. 10 years ago, that was common on PC BF4/1/Hardline, even 5, while console played much closer range and mid range. Which is what the controller excells at.

So you suddenly throw in two different inputs that dictate the general "range" of the match, and balance is thrown out the window. Everything is more chaotic, everyone is dealing with frustration at all ranges, everyone has to deal with benefits/drawbacks.
Controller players are pissed because on the bigger maps/longer range engagement they have near no chance against a mouse. PC players have to deal with getting 1 shot or hipfired by a controller player with minimal effort or stick movement.
You feel the latter more with the close-ranged maps in the beta. But I think crossplay in FPS games are more than just "recoil penalty bad" or "aim assist is broken". Ask anyone who played FPS games on the PC with a controller throughout the past 10 years, they'll tell you its pretty miserable.

That's true. It's not really a skill gap, its just that the inputs are good at different things and suit other things better. There's really not much preventing a good controller player from moving onto being a demon on the mouse. It also goes the other way. 60% of aiming is just remembering basic things in the moment, 20% game specific, the other 20% being muscle memory that ultimately is the same thing with just a different interface between inputs.

I just think it's going to unfortunately be a talking point of FPS games and probably going to be the beating stick. I won't be surprised if people get angry at the mere inclusion of it, which is a bit of a shame.

I played a lot of MW19/2 Ground War which is basically Conquest-lite and on the bigger maps controller aim assist did fine against M+K. There was no need to nerf M+K and aim assist was pretty strong which made controller competitive. I'd rather have controller aim assist buffed than M+K getting nerfed.

Gyro sounds like a great thing, I've heard people on the Switch (mainly Splatoon) love the input method. I'd be seriously interested to see maybe the Dualshock get swap-outs or something. Hell I'm not really sure why the idea of Gyro wasn't on the PS5 pro or something.

Even though they walked that back over time, their final big uodate still had a fucking nip samurai woman as a playable character in it. They never fully let go of it. But the bigger thing for me was just the gameplay and maps, I did not like what I played in the beta and nothing I saw in the full game made me want to buy it. It's just not what I want out of a World War 2 game at the end of the day.

As far as I can tell this is a misconception. Only the sniper can autospot for your team, it's just you, personally, get a little red marker on enemies that only you can see in certain conditions

Do the features/bonuses listed under the "Signature weapon" portion of the class loadout screen apply only when that class is using that weapon, or is it a generic bit of info about that weapon type?

On the Assault page it says AR has "faster draw and switch times, plus better sprint recovery", the Engineer page says the SMG has "improved hip-fire control", and the recon page says sniper has "stablize aim by holding breath and rechamber quicker between shots". Those are all vague enough descriptions of each weapon category that it makes me think they could just mean the benefits of those weapon regardless of class, aside from maybe the "rechamber quicker between shots" under Recon, but then for Support it says "no sprint speed penalty" under MG

I uninstalled the game since the beta is open, but I believe on recon it would auto spot while in ADS. Meaning if you were using say a carbine while aiming, it would auto spot. That's what it was doing for me. But the other aspect of it was mini map spotting. Where when you fire a weapon, it automatically marks you on the mini map. This has been in the genre since at least 4. So a lot of the times the minute you fire, you appear on the mini map for everyone nearby. Completely kills stealth. Suppressors help to a degree, but its still a garbage mechanic for shit players who can't listen.

Assault's two weapon gimmick gives you flexibile engagement ranges - largely, it means you can have some kind of ranged weapon, and then flip out the shotty when in CQB. That's not an insignificant advantage.

Assault being the murder class isn't that bad. That was the principle behind him in the original games. In 1942 he doesn't have any gadgets, the only thing he gets over other classes is a better gun.
For it to work they'd need to redesign the other classes (or at least engineer/support) to be significantly worse than assault at combat though, and they're going the opposite direction of that with unlocked weapons. And that'd only work with a mindset where people choose between being good at killing people or having gadgets that benefit the team, and I don't think BF6's target audience is up to that.

Maybe you'd have a point to stand on in closed weapons but even then LMG's can be made to be mini AR's with the right attachment. Their gear is like an engineer, its supposed to be situational. An engineer with no tanks is considered useless, an assault with no cluster of enemies might be considered useless as their grenade launchers feel pointless. But there is still the beacon and ladder which help them do stuff. Killing is an important part of BF sadly.

But the real issue is no one is going to go "I want lots of kills so I will go assault" because nothing about their kit really excels at that. Their perks aren't that great, the stim is only good for countering other assaults. The grenade launcher needs a direct hit or two splashes and has limited ammo. Yeah they get the AR but closed weapon is not going to be a big deal anyway. I'd say its the more spammy need to get an objective class, but solo CoD simulator not so much.

Because Support will always be better for that shit. The self heal is incredibly important plays they get ez camp shit like the cover as well as the trophy system. Their ability makes LMG's as speedy as other guns to move in and even then you can just switch to an AR because the you don't lose much without it. Your heal as well now gives you ammo so you literally never need anyone in your team. Support simply does to much now that they've combined medic and old support. There's way more Supports then their is assault from my games anyway.
