Okay so I've developed my Samurai OC a bit more. I'd really like to hear some feedback on it.

Silver needs a good permanent removal from the series. Problem is since Generations we've been caught in this backward-looking navel-gazey bullshit where we keep having to go "oh yeah remember that game???" for every Sonic game ever, so instead of just moving on from the bad entries and forgetting about them, we keep rubbing salt in the wound. I don't know who the fuck is in charge approving of this shit or thinks it's a GOOD idea. I'm sure half of it is budget constraints, "oh we can reuse Forces level assets for Shadow Gens? Frontiers was a chance to be different and instead it was the same shit as usual, in one respect literally because they just reused the level layouts from every previous boost game again but with debug room aesthetics, but in another sense because of Ian's revolting decision to make it a "character development" game. And what Ian means by "character development" is all of the characters complaining about how they've been badly written for the past 20 years. Yeah, we fucking know, and you're not fixing anything by making them self aware of it for one game! It's so hateful and depressing. You'd think he doesn't even like the series.

I can't draw to save my life so I don't really have anything to show the design I have in mind but his suit doesn't really have that many things going on with it. I wasn't thinking of anything extravagant in the design other than it clearly having a homage to both old Samurai armor with an inspiration to the full body suits of those IPs. Something like pic related but with maybe less "going-ons" and only having 2 colors to fit the rest of the cast. Those colors being Orange or Yellow as primary and Dark Blue as secondary to fit the bright colors of the rest of the cast.

Kind of fits with his species don't you think? Beetles typically aren't bad to have around but if they make themselves known and get in your face they become an annoyance. That's one of the themes I was going for. I also think the Sonic franchise in general lacks characters that are against the main heroes but are otherwise good.

Raiden how so? I won't lie and admit that a lot of my ideas for how he would attack and brace himself would be inspired from Raiden's parries in MGR but that's less because I'm basing him off of Raiden and more because Raiden's parry movement is just really well animated and telegraphed. I guess he'd also have the same gimmick of most of his strength and speed coming from his futuristic suit of armor powering him up but that's not exactly based of MGR so much as it's based off of Power Rangers and Super Sentai.

Honestly there's another character that I admittedly based his entire initial concept off of but I think I've made this OC separate enough from that character to justify that it's not a direct rip-off especially since I skipped basing the OC off him directly and took the inspirations that made that character and made a separate one that I think fits inside the Sonic IP.

I think they should somehow retell Silver's arc and fix the Blaze plot hole. Either by writing her out entirely (which creates the issue of nobody there to help Silver focus on his goal) or by going with Maekawa's intent for her (She seals herself into the Sol Dimension at the end, and Rush comes after).
But...what's the motivation to do so? Appeasing Nakamura's autism? Silver's story is so heavily associated with '06, it's risky. Would it sell if they made it into a game? It might not seem like it right now, but this franchise's success isn't guaranteed. Sonic Team was reportedly on their last legs after Forces until the movie revived interest in Sonic and boosted sales. Selling well is important. It's a gamble to take risks, yet risks are sometimes necessary.
Someone made a point that in order to get focus/relevancy, Silver needs to be popular, but in order to make Silver popular, he needs focus/relevancy. So it never ends up happening. I've been thinking about that.

It's painful looking at how badly Silver's character has been massacred. I used to think that he shouldn't have been created at all, since he's so clearly a failed attempt to recapture the "lightning in a bottle" that is Shadow. But he's here to stay, and so something should be done about the absolute state of him. No other character has been destroyed as badly as Silver. Even if I'm not the biggest fan of him, he doesn't deserve this uwu cuckold humiliation ritual. I believe all characters should be written with respect even if they're not beloved.

You reminded me that, years ago, I edited Shadow's main Sonic wiki page. I simply placed Maekawa's name above Iizuka's instead of below in the part that lists his creators. Pretty sure it's still there. I'm petty.
Either way, Shadow was a group effort. While I consider Maekawa to be Shadow's main creator, it's not inaccurate for Iizuka to be credited with helping to create him as well.

The "no friends" shit actually did have the positive effect of forcing them to tell a NEW STORY with Unleashed. Imagine if we never got Shadow or Rouge at all because Sonic Team was too caught up in figuring out ways to include the Chaotix and Ray and they kept bringing Gamma back, sacrifice be damned.

It's not just that I hate Silver. It's that game development is a zero sum game and "fixing" him or addressing him in any way is taking away from potential better futures where we do something else with our time.

Yea and Sonic Team has obviously steered away from that dynamic between the two and has them working together for the most part. My intentions for this OC is that he is beyond a near shadow of a doubt directly opposed to Silver's way of solutions regardless of circumstances because I really do feel like a very big weak spot in Silver's character is the fact that he has no one to directly challenge him on anything he's actively doing. Sonic has multiple rivals that in almost any case would be more than willing to pose a challenge and fight against him for it. Shadow has Sonic if he tries to get too close of a "big bad" or "big hero" simply because they're morally aligned against each other on a lot of things. Silver has no counterpart in such a situation. At best you can say that Sonic would stop him if he become too "purge happy" but that doesn't really serve as a moral opposition against him since if Silver is already at that point the audience will probably already be siding with Sonic anyway.
My intentions with this OC is that when you see him, he almost always looking for Silver to fight him against whatever he's trying to do, regardless if Silver's way of action and thought is completely sound and reasonable.

Oh, I'm not nearly even close to developing him enough in my mind to safely say I could write a whole fanfic around him but I definitely hope one day that I could at least tell a few stories where he is involved and at least make a few action sequences that are engaging and fun to read through. Short range gravity and mass manipulation as a psychic power. It's what I gave to my OC to have him better contend with foes with telekinesis and/or super speed. Have him do some sumo stance stuff, crater the ground all around him from the sheer gravitic force, and ready his weapons. Silver can't lift something with a massive amount of artificial mass and anything entering the "gravity bubble" is slowed enough for a counterstrike. It turns the wielder into an immovable object capable of properly sizing up against an unstoppable force.

Sonic is a free spirit. Not a hero for justice, but his own whim.

Amy is a sweet girl who loves Sonic

Knuckles is the strong but gullible protector of the master emerald

Rouge is a jewel thief who can play both sides but will do right by the end
Sally is Sonic's opposite. She is as responsible as he is free spirited. So Knuckles is a solid basis. But she's also a mature woman. She is flirtatious and also cunning. She's somewhere on the spectrum between Knuckles and Rouge in an odd way.
She is also without shame (the archaic version of the word). She doesn't care if she's seen naked.
Sally and Sonic have the same goals, but with different priorities.

No one can ever say what Sonic Team would do with her. We rarely ever see Sonic Team's takes on other peoples' characters. Sage is the only really notable example and she has very different character traits. That's a GAME character. We cannot truly say that Sonic Team will maintain the exact characterization of an american character when the closest thing has in fact changed.

So basically yeah, Sally is Blaze. "Nega-Sonic". A mix of Knuckles, Tails and Amy to create the ultimate foil to Sonic. But the key difference is that Sally has an aspect of Rouge but with "opposite to Sonic" as the basis for it rather than "opposite to Knuckles".

Big the Cat exists to fish for frogs in a game about saving the universe. Blaze is from another dimension nobody asked for. Chaos was cool for one game and then got shoved into spin-offs. Rouge exists to be a furry fetish and steal gems. Even Tails the ‘best sidekick’ gets reduced to a useless cheerleader half the time. But sure Silver’s the problem because his time travel plot is ‘convoluted’as if Shadow’s backstory isn’t a 15-layer edgy lasagna of alien DNA, government experiments, and amnesia. the hypocrisy is unreal.
