I think American races can be a great spectacle but it seems like there are less upsets than on turf which is a bit boring, the horses who break ahead early on are much more likely to actually keep that position until the race as opposed to turf where early front runners usually barely eek out a win if they lead all race or get overcome in the last third.

It also just makes sense culturally, fancy ceremonial racing for euros and Asian with lots of formalities and down in the dirt rough working class racing in the US.

Course length favors an equivalent race style. The pack always moves at the same rate. The end closers are always the same set distance behind the leading frontrunner at the 50% mark. Same with Lates and Paces. (good wits rolls can override this. we've all seen golshis mysteriously in 6th out of 18 places at the half mark)
After 50%, pack mentality turns off, and the next 16% before late the natural difference in speed between styles causes the pack to clump.
Then at 67% the speed cap jumps up and everyone lets loose. End / Late have a 1.0 multiplier on their speed at this point, while pace has like .98 and front has .96. All other factors similar, it's impossible for fronts to keep in front forever, so it's all a game of how long they can hold on.

On shorter courses, there's just less distance after 50% for the lates to close the gap. It favors fronts. On longer courses there's 2-3x the distance for endlates to push their advantage.
